Tim & Jane Yates
We are Tim and Jane and we realised a 10 year dream when we moved to Sainte Marie de Campan in December 2013. In 2012, after 30 years with the Metropolitan Police Tim retired and we started our house hunt in France. We had holidayed all over France and enjoyed all the different regions but the Hautes Pyrenees has always been our favourite area. We wanted to find a traditional Pyrenean stone house in a tranquil setting, near the ski resorts and surrounded by beautiful walks and were so lucky to find a home that ticked all the boxes. Our sons are currently at university in the UK and we're looking forward to their visits in the holidays. Now that we've settled in we're busy discovering the wonderful surrounding walks with our two Border Terriers Eddy and Charlie.
We have been coming to the Pyrenees for holidays for many years and wanted to find a house full of character. We've certainly got that, with lovely gardens and stunning views. We have a lovely tranquil setting here but we're not too far away from 'civilisation' with the village of Sainte Marie de Campan only 2km down the road and the lovely town of Bagneres de Bigorre 15 mins away with its lovely shops, spa, casino and superb Saturday market. We are surrounded by beautiful walks and activities so there's always plenty to do both winter and summer. We were lucky enough to find a house with a swimming pool and hot tub which we hope our guests will enjoy.
You can do as much or as little as you like in the Campan Valley - just sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery and wildlife (you may be lucky enough to see deer in the garden, they come down and nibble on our pine trees). We love walking and the area is packed with walks for all levels. We have walks we can access straight from the house or a short car ride will take you to many more. Jane loves horse riding and there's plenty of that here. Tim is a rugby fan which was another of the reasons for choosing this area. Tim is planning to cycle the Col du Tourmalet in 2014 so training is underway. Jane is planning something a little less arduous. We are a ten minute drive from the famous Pic du Midi where you can take a cable car to the famous observatory and enjoy the spectacular views across the Pyrenees. There are plenty of activities in the surrounding area to keep you busy including cannoning, white water rafting, climbing, parcours adventure, birds of prey displays, relaxing spas, husky rides, skiing, cross country skiing, snow shoe walking and many more. Visit our website www.gite-du-midi-pryenees.com where you will find links to many of the activities.
The area is steeped in history, with quaint villages, castles and churches to visit. We are not far from the religious sites of Lourdes and Saint Bertrand de Comminges. Campan is famous for its mounaques, life size puppets which are displayed throughout the village during the summer.
