This condo is located in the Marina district of San Francisco. It is ½ a block away from the Marina and beach. It has a view of Alcatraz from the living room and is on the second floor of a quiet, 3-unit building which is fully secured. It has hardwood floors throughout and a fully stocked kitchen. About John

I was born and raised in San Francisco and attended U.C. Berkeley. I live in the Silicon Valley with my family and this condo is our city home. We do not use it all the time and enjoy making it available to fellow travelers.

John purchased this condo in 1999

Why John chose Marina District

As a San Francisco native I know the city very well. My family and I decided to buy this condo in the Marina District because we believe the Marina is one of the most beautiful and lively districts in all of San Francisco. We bought this condo as our city home and we live in Silicon Valley, about one hour from S.F. Some of the reasons we bought in this area: you can walk to the beach and enjoy amazing Crissy Fields, excellent restaurants and bars are a 5-minute walk away on Chestnut Street, Safeway is just a 10-minute walk away. There are great biking paths as well as a movie theater, Apple store, spas and hair salons within minutes from our doorway. Even though all these amenities are nearby, the neighborhood is very quiet and family-friendly.

What makes this condo unique

The condo is charming with hardwood floors and a small sun porch at the rear. You can watch ships and sailboats as they sail on the bay from the front window in the living room-truly beautiful! It is genuine San Francisco living at it's finest. Plus, on foggy evenings, you can hear the gentle sound of the fog horns on the Bay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I stayed here for a few months and the condo is absolutely great! It is very charming and quiet-plus it's in one of the best parts of the City for sure. The beds are comfortable and the entire condo is very clean and well cared for. The kitchen is sunny and very cheerful to wake up to. Also, the high-def TV was a nice bonus. I'm coming back! Wish I could live here full-time. Beth and John are very helpful and friendly too.

Great area-walk everywhere!

  • 4 of 5
The unit was "home" for us as we needed to stay in the area for at least ten days and we were happy with our selection to stay in the Marina district. We also had a garage space inside the property for our jeep which was perfect for our needs. The bed was comfy, and the entire unit was cute and a bit "funky" actually. We felt safe there and visited Safeway either by foot or car, picked up everything we needed to make it "home" for us during our stay. We walked to Cow Hollow for eats too and just kicked back!

Great neighborhood - perfect for walking the best parts of San Francisco.

  • 5 of 5
The condo was a great change of pace after a hectic weekend in the Union Square area of town. I loved the location of the condo! Quiet, pretty neighborhood. The best part of the unit is resting by the bay window where you can view the marina & Alcatraz. Loved seeing the big ships pass by! You can walk to Golden Gate, Fisherman's Wharf, The Palace of Fine Arts (my personal favorite), lots of restaurants and shopping. There are buses close by & it is a cheap cab fare from the Wharf if you run out of energy or it gets too dark for walking.

I basically just needed a peaceful spot to rest and shower between all the hours spent walking and the condo worked perfectly. It is clean and very cozy. Although I was happy to walk 5 minutes to Starbucks and restaurants, if you'd rather eat in, everything you need was available in the kitchen. I definitely recommend this unit for one adult or a couple (small children would be ok too). John was extremely helpful both before and during my stay and very easy to communicate with. Thank you for sharing your home. I greatly enjoyed my visit!

Revisiting the Bay

  • 5 of 5
The accommodations were beautiful, clean, and comfortable. I am always somewhat hesitant and skeptical trying new vacation rentals. However, after speaking with John on several occasions, my mind was put to ease. He was very professional and courteous. The location is also perfect. We will definitely stay there again!

Fun in beautiful San Fran

  • 5 of 5
Loved our stay in the Marina area condo! After each fun filled day sight seeing in San Fran, we loved coming back to our comfortable home. Beautiful neighborhood and appreciated the bay view looking down the street from the large main room window. Walked to the grocery store for food and wine and an easy walk each morning for coffee and to get to restaurants. One block walk to park with fabulous views. All made our vacation and stay special.

Great location and view of the marina!

  • 5 of 5
We loved the layout and view from the living room! Everything was clean and cozy! The breakfast porch was smaller than it looks like in the pictures though. Mostly for the atmosphere not really space to sit there. We ate breakfast by the bay window in the living room overlooking Alcatraz.

Good apartment with helpful hosts

  • 4 of 5
Three of us (my wife, me and our 20 yo daughter) spent 6 enjoyable days at this apartment. Beth met us on our arrival and showed us around the apartment, including recommendations on local restaurants and shopping. The apartment was very functional, the small second bedroom wasn't an issue for our daughter but only has a curtain, not a door, the rest of the apartment was clean and very functional, and a great view from the front window overlooking the bay.
We enjoyed being able to walk along the esplanade in the morning to each days activities, which was only 20 mins to the Wharf area, and a bus was just around the corner that took you to the longer destinations. John allowed us to store our bags in his garage in the building as we had a late flight which was appreciated.
John was easy to deal with, prompt to return the initial deposit amount and made for a great stay.

The condo is in the Marina just one half a block away from the beach and all of the America's Cup Sail Boat racing events. The Marina District is one of the most upscale and desirable neighborhoods in the City! You can easily walk to all the America's Cup activities and the America's Cup Village. I attended the Regattas (pre-races) and the Village has a huge viewing screen which shows the racing Sail Boats from a bird's eye view and from on board the actual racing boats. Crissy Fields Beach is absolutely beautiful and includes a promenade which runs along the beach with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, bike paths, picnic areas with BBQ's, lunch and coffee spots and pier fishing. You can also walk to the Palace of the Fine Arts (about a 10 minute walk), and the Exploratorium. Trendy Union Street is a 15 minute walk away and has world-class shopping, restaurants, bars and personal services. Pier 39 is also within walking distance- about a 25 minute walk. You can rent bicycles and enjoy a scenic bike ride. Just head to the Marina Green, about 1 minute from the front door, and enjoy safe and wide bike lanes with no traffic to deal with. You can bike into the Crissy Field National Park (The largest natural city park in the U.S.) and ride along the beach right to the Golden Gate Bridge. Bicycles are on one side of the Golden Gate Bridge and pedestrains are on the other for safety and enjoyment. Walking or riding your bike across the Golden Gate Bridge is an absolute must do experience! One of my favorite day trips is to bike across the Golden Gate Bridge and ride into Sausalito. Have lunch in Sausalito which is a beautiful city full of great restarunts and art galleries. Then catch an afternoon ferry from Sausalito back over to San Francisco. You just park your bikes right on the ferry and enjoy a mini-cruise on the San Francisco Bay.
