4 bedroom house sleeping 10 on the outskirts of St Wolfgang Austria

Beautiful chalet house in an elevated position in the small hamlet of Ried on the outskirts of St Wolfgang, Austria. You are ideally located with the centre being only a 10 minute walk away, paths up the Schafberg Mountain immediately as you leave the house, the ferry and Schafberg Cog railway are within 5 minutes walk. Skiing at the nearby Postalm a 20 minute drive is ideal for the beginner and intermediate with skiing for the more experienced being 30 minutes away.

You can swim in the lake in the summer months and the public bathing area is just a 2 minute walk from the house. It is a perfect place for the active family in summer, waterskiing, tube riding, diving, windsurfing, sailing, parascending are just some of the lake based activities. For landlovers; tour the famous attractions, visit Salzburg, travel the famous cog railway, visit the ice caves and Dinoworld, hire mountain bikes and explore the area on the many trails.

Dear Susan, we had a lovely weekend at Howling Wolf chalet. The house was very spacious. Unfortunatly we could not use the nice garden because of the weather in the evening. Canyoning was great also, and the Sloopy Joe bar at the lake. Finally i can waterski!



I added some nice pictures, a view from your balcony and a great rainbow at the wolfgangsee.

So good...

We spent a wonderful week at Howling Wolf holiday home. We were 7 persons (2 families) and the house was perfect for our group.

Firstly, the most important thing is what you see and read on the Internet is exactly. No unpleasent surprises. The guests can use the “high” ground floor (1 bedroom, the kitchen, the living room and one bathroom) and the first floor (3 bedrooms and another bathroom). The garrage and the attic floor were closed (but who need it?). One of upstairs bedrooms has an extra bed (a very interesting one!). Both floors have balconies, where it was so good to relax with a coffee in the morning or a drink in the evenings.

The nice views (the mountains and even the Wolfgangsee lake), the feeling of space, the balconies, the very well- equipped kitchen (including espresso machine, toaster and all you need for our meals), the nice yard (where almost evey morning we had “visitors”, a deer with her baby!), and, especially, the permanent peace of this location, all of this create such a good atmosphere!
The house is situated in Ried (who is glued to St. Wolfgang) in a 20 minutes walking distance to St. Wolfgang centre. Don’t forget to take a walk to the opposite direction of St. Wolfgang direction, above the lake edge! It worth it, better renting a bycicle!

For us, this place was a good base for visiting the nearest or farthest area (for example 45 min. driving time to Hallstatt, 50 min. to Salzburg city center, 70 min. to Hallein salt mine, 90 min to Prien in Germany, for Herrenchiemsee Palace, 150 min. to Kaprun, etc)

I can’t finish my review without saying many thanks to Susan (who was an charming and helpful e-mails partner) and Andy and, of course, to Justin, the local representant, very helpful, also, and nice person.

Located in the small hamlet of Ried, the chalet sits south facing in an elevated position affording views of the lake and the Alps. Just a short walk from local amenities the centre of St Wolfgang is only a 10 minute walk away.

Ski: There are several ski resorts in the area, the main two being the Postalm which is great for families as it is a plateux with several easy to medium difficulty runs with several bars and restaurants located by the easily accessible car park. Ski hire and passes are also easly obtained and are very reasonably priced.

The second resort being Dachstein West which is a larger resort and for more experienced skiers.

Both areas are serviced by a free ski bus which departs around the corner from the Chalet at the Forsterhof Hotel.
