Located in the heart of the sunny island of Skopelos. Ananias Cottage is a traditional Greek stone 'kalivi' (country house) renovated to the most modern standards. Such traditional touches as authentic Greek tiles, family sleeping platform, indoor fireplaces and outdoor grilling facilities have all been lovingly preserved and restored. The surrounding 2.5 acres of plum, apricot, and olive trees ensures your quiet privacy. The cottage is conveniently centrally located -- 15 minutes in any direction brings you to 5 different beaches or the main town of Skopelos where you find numerous fine restaurants, tavernas and an excellent night life. You will need a car to get to and from the cottage and town, but also to get around and explore the island.

  • The upstairs bedroom is modeled after the traditional Greek country home. The large sleeping platform has two double mattresses. Underneath are large drawers to store all your clothing. The chestnut open beam ceiling gives a bright open airy feeling to the room. French doors open out on to the terracotta tiled upstairs terrace. A traditional style Greek fireplace adds a final charming touch to the room. In the downstairs living room are two built-in sofas that can be folded out into large, comfortable, sleeping units. This provides sleeping accommodations for up to 4 persons.

The marble counters and sink, cooking stove hood, blue tile back splashing, and Greek floor tiles all recall the rural vernacular architecture of the island. Outside, a large chestnut table with seating for six, sits under a large veranda with pillion flagstone patio. Beach items such as beach mats, paddles, and snorkel masks are provided.

The Island of Skopelos: Skopelos is the 'greenest' island in Greece. Over 70% of the island is protected forest lands. Walking out of the cottage front door and you can explore the numerous varieties of flora and fauna found on the island. Some excellent walks can be had on old 'monopatis' -- flagstoned goat trails from the time before cars and roads (the first road to span the island was completed in 1965). If you want to relax on the sand and swim in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, five beaches can be found within 15 min of the cottage.

Transit to the Skopelos: . The neighboring island of Skiathos has an airport with domestic and international connections from Athens, London, Vienna, Frankfurt. The ferry connection between Skiathos and Skopelos runs 4 times per day (Summer) and takes 1 hour. Your own car or a car rental is necessary for getting around, but also to explore the island. There are several agencies on Skopelos that the owner can refer to you.
