This two-story custom 'pier and beam' home was built in 2007 and includes 4 bedrooms/3.5 baths and oak hardwoods throughout the main common areas downstairs. The bedrooms are luxuriously appointed with John Robshaw textiles, vintage quilts, and down pillows. There are two Master suites, one upstairs and one downstairs, and both include double sinks and walk-in showers. You can cook a mean meal on the Wolf stove in the subway-tiled kitchen and, weather permitting, open up the wall of french doors between the kitchen and outside screened patio and mingle over some wine. Your kids can enjoy the park and pool only a few blocks away in the summer, the fenced backyard, or, if you need some quiet, you can situate them in an upstairs loft. The spacious living room downstairs includes a baby grande piano, gas fireplace on with a switch, comfortable seating, a 14' beamed ceiling --it's a spacious and comfortable place to hang out after a fun day of soaking up Austin, or can be a lovely place to stretch and read a book as the sun pours in the huge windows that run along the whole front of this beautiful home.
My husband is a sixth generation native Texan -- and an Aggie. We have a mixed marriage, as I am the first generation child of Indian immigrant parents -- and a Longhorn (Hook 'Em Horns!). My husband and I are both attorneys (SMU and NYU respectively). We have been married 13+ years and built this house when our girls were itty bittys--our youngest was only four months old! Our initials and handprints are embedded in the concrete driveway.
Raman Gill purchased this house in 2008
We chose the lot because of the large trees, and proximity to the central business district, medical center, a nice park, premium grocery store, bars and restaurants. This home is on a gorgeous tree-lined street, just far enough away from main roads, yet we regularly walk to a bakery, pub, premium sushi restaurant, cool taco place, and upscale grocery store that has bands that play most weekends.
This is not just a vacation rental, this is our home. We only make this beautiful gem available to visitors when we are out of town for some special events, school holidays, and weekends. Most people who visit our home assume it's a remodel because we built it on 'pier and beam,' with a beautiful walk-up porch, and really tried to honor the craftsman/bungalow feeling prevalent in older homes in central Austin. However, this home is not old; we built it just four years ago, with all the comforts and amenities of a new, custom-built home.
This home is located in Rosedale, a beautiful neighborhood only a mile and a half north of the University of Texas. On a gorgeous tree-lined street, this home is a quiet retreat from the bustling shops and restaurants that surround it, including 26 Doors, Uchiko (best sushi in Austin), Taco Deli (best tacos in Austin), and UpperCrust Bakery. Rosedale is also part of Austin's central medical hub, with Seton's main hospital just down the street, and the Heart Hospital only blocks away as well. Central Market, the local grocery store, is a short walk away, and boasts a wide array of organic produce and local products, as well as a huge playscape for kids and live music Th-Sat nights. Ramsey Park and Pool are also only a few minutes walk away, as is the Draught House, the famous local pub, if you'd like a cool beer after a fun day of hanging out in Austin. The shops and restaurants in NoBu (North Burnet) are also only a short walk away and include local favorites like the Omlettry and Torchy's Tacos, as well as yoga studios, wine bars, and thrift shops. And, of course, UT is at your doorstep, so you are only a 3-4 minute drive to campus for football games and other campus events.
