Can't wait to return!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned home from a vacation in CR, 5 nights of which were spent at Casa Uvita. From the photos we had seen when we booked we were pretty excited about our stay but it truly exceeded our expectations. We were met by the wonderful Michele when we arrived and she showed us around the house and property, WOW! The wildlife in Costa Rica is one of the highlights for us and this house was perfect for that. We found sloths in the trees next to the house on a daily basis, at one point we had 3 (4 counting the baby that was with one of them) in our sights. The birds and monkeys were plentiful and beautiful, Michele was as enthusiastic as we were about spotting the different types. Carlos, who is the very kind groundskeeper there, was always on the lookout for wildlife for us and he proved to be the best sloth spotter ever. Although Carlos speaks no english and our Spanish is terrible we managed to be able to communicate with him, he is so sweet he never gave up trying to tell us about different things while we were there. He took us on a hike to the most beautiful waterfall close to Casa Uvita and showed us where to jump in to a crystal clear and cool swimming hole. My husband and son were able to go back a second time on their own once they knew where it was, this was a highlight for our 12 year old son for sure.

The beaches in the area also amazing. Michele was kind enough to invite us along for boogie boarding one afternoon when she was going with some of her friends and showed us the best spot for this and let us use some of her boogie boards while she surfed. Next time we return I will be renting a surf board as the beach was also great for that. Casa Uvita is perfect for the active family. We did something different everyday and didn't get to everything. When we took time out for relaxing the house was ideal. The pool and hammocks and decks with amazing views and breezes were thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen had everything we needed and also a good variety of restaurants to choose from when you don't feel like cooking. Eva the housekeeper, also a sweetheart, treated us to her homemade tortillas which were so delicious.

We were missing our dog at home but shared Michele's dogs which was wonderful. Having Michele on the property was such a bonus. She was such a kind an knowledgeable host. We didn't ever feel that we lacked privacy and because she was so liked minded to our family we felt like we left with a friend. We'll be back!

Incredible House with Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

Casa Uvita was everything we expected and more. This is our first time to Costa Rica. We chose Casa Uvita because it is away from the touristy areas. The house is open, spacious and the views from most areas of the home are beautiful. Everything was super clean and in order from our arrival to Michele assisting us with reservations, how to make a Pina Colada and giving suggestions to the best beaches (Playa Arco). Bring the boogie boards!! Carlos took us to the nearby waterfall, his wife, Eva cooked us the traditional CR breakfast several times throughout our stay.

Loved the monkeys and toucans down to the moths and geckos at night.

If you are looking for an awesome Costa Rican experience, please consider staying at Casa Uvita. You will not regret it.

Amazing home and host

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a private setting where we could enjoy the beauty of Costa Rica, with our family, and we found it at Casa Uvita. We've visited Costa Rica many times and this is by far one of our favorite spots.

The open design of the home allowed us to feel part of the environment and enjoy the splendid view of the ocean. The wildlife around us was truly spectacular. Howler and white faced monkeys, sloths, toucans and a variety of other birds greeted us. The location is close enough to the ocean ( 5 Minutes), yet far enough away to allow a quiet retreat. On the days we didn't hit the beach, we lounged around the pool and enjoyed the serenity of the rain forest.

The home is tastefully decorated and can easily accommodate a family of six. If you choose to make your own meals the kitchen has everything. We found the gas grill to be a bonus.

Michele and her staff kept the property immaculate. They made sure we had everything we needed. They took us to explore "hidden treasures" within the area. Michele provided awesome suggestions on places to check out, she certainly has a wealth of knowledge about Costa Rica.

We would love to return to this special place.

Owner's Response: It was a lot of fun having you and your family here to ring in the New Year. You took full advantage of all that Uvita has to offer--beach combing, boogie boarding, waterfalls, river rafting and then you even found time to rest and relax by the pool or swing in a hammock. I will definitely look you up if I ever go ice fishing in Minnesota! Pura vida!

Beautiful, fun, and safe for a girls' weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We visited Casa Uvita as a group of four girls for three nights in July. As women travelers, we not only enjoyed the beautiful house and beaches, our host and activities, but we also felt very safe and well-cared-for.

Casa Uvita is very obviously well-loved and kept immaculately. I have stayed in many rental houses in Costa Rica and none have been in such good condition, from the furniture to the linens and bathroom fixtures to the equipment in the kitchen. Another plus is that there are four full bathrooms, so we could all get ready at the same time! From the house we saw many toucans and heard the howler monkeys every day. Michele or her staff was ALWAYS nearby if we had any questions or needed any help. They arranged an awesome horse ride for us where the horses were brought directly to Casa Uvita and we rode down hills, over boulders, through rivers and streams and mangrove forests, directly down to the whale’s tail! Michele also gave us recommendations for the best beaches to visit (many were deserted except for us!), restaurants, and even brought us fresh-made tortillas one night! Most evenings, we had drinks on the beautiful patio at the house and cooked dinners for ourselves in the well-equipped kitchen. We did our shopping at a very nice grocery store right at the bottom of the hill. There were also lots of board games and movies to entertain us in the evenings.

As women travelers, we were looking for something peaceful, beautiful, off the beaten-track, and above all, safe. We found many vacation houses advertised in the Uvita area during our dates, but only Michele at Casa Uvita could assure us someone would be on the property at all times, 24/7, to help us and to be there in case of an emergency. Costa Rica is certainly not dangerous, but as women travelers, it’s best to take precautions to be safe! I hope to return to Casa Uvita again soon as there are many more activities we didn’t have time for: waterfall hikes, surfing, and exploring more beaches and restaurants!

gorgeous house overlooking pristine Costa Rican beach

  • 5 of 5

Casa Uvita is beautifully designed and maintained, and very comfortable. It was spotless when we arrived, and we were delighted to find that there was light housekeeping provided every day. Michele was extremely helpful and patient with my questions before we arrived. It is lovely having her and her housekeeping and maintenance staff (Consuelo and Gerardo) close by. She helped to arrange several outings for us (sea kayaking and surf classes), which were great, and provided suggestions for restaurants and other activities in the area. We loved hiking to two waterfalls with a cold, fresh swimming hole, within a few minutes' drive of the house. She even came and gave us a lift when our car couldn't make it up a local hill! Much of the beachfront close by is within the Marino Ballena National Park. You do have to pay to access the beach each day, but each beach we visited was gorgeous, pristine, and sparsely used, so it was well worth it. The kitchen is well-stocked and organized. There are two good supermarkets close by so it was easy to prepare some meals at home. We loved bird-watching and admiring the sloth and howler monkeys from the house's beautiful verandas. Our two teenage children also loved our week at Casa Uvita.

Owner's Response: It was so great to have your family here. I have no doubt your kids will convince you to take another tropical vacation soon, especially in the middle of that wicked Toronto winter! All of us will be waiting for you, including Duquesa and Bella :-)

Stay in the rain forest in simple, total comfort!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Uvita was a delight! We stayed here at the beginning and end of our 10-day trip to Costa Rica, and I think coming back was even more fabulous than the thrill of waking up to howler monkeys and toucan sounds on our first morning. The house is beautiful and open, and it feels like you’re living in the forest canopy (especially on the upstairs deck), but in total comfort! There are tons of things to do in the area, and Michele will help you figure all of that out, with the best guides, etc., but what we most enjoyed was sitting (or lying in the hammock) right there on the deck or patio, and watching for toucans, listening to (and sometimes seeing) the howler monkeys, watching the occasional blue morpho flap by, checking out the beautiful poison dart frogs on the lawn (not dangerous!) – and on our last day, getting to watch a sloth slowly climb up into the canopy. Michele, Consuelo and Gerardo all took great care of us (home made tortillas one morning; hike to a waterfall another day, instructions for finding the best beaches, and help when my daughter had an ear infection!). And all off the grid! Ask Michele about her solar panels, and her water catchment system… We would come back in a flash.
