The Cabin at Greentrees overlooks the beautiful Guadalupe River. This 600 s.f. Cabin sleeps 4 comfortably: 2 in the bedroom, 2 in the trundle. Additional room in the loft area for 3. Two full bathrooms. Front porch is a perfect spot for your morning coffee made in the kitchenette. 'Fridge, range, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, WiFi (no TV). Heat pump A/C and heat. The dock on the River is a short walk down the hill. Wonderfully relaxing, almost spiritual site.
We moved here from San Antonio, TX in 2006. Both of us are retired - my wife from a teaching career, me from commercial real estate. We live on site in a separate home 30 yards away and separated by a privacy fence. Hobbies include working on the place, organic gardening, photography, hunting, hiking, etc. We're active in our Church and local community.
This has been in the family since 1930's. We're blessed that is our turn now! Watching the birds, deer and other wildlife from the cabin porch or the from the Guadalupe River dock lends itself to a peaceful stay away from home.
This place has been enjoyed by several generations in our family and, way back before that by Native American Indians. Some Indian artifacts can be seen in the back field. Many flint chips, some tools and an occasional point shows up on the surface.
We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The cabin is much cuter than even the pictures can capture. As my husband put it "We're from Chicago and after one night of the cabin's peace and tranquility we added 5 yrs to our life!!" LOVED the porch, the birds, the river, and the lack of a television (don't ever put one in). We only stayed 2 nights but would love to return and stay for a week! If you're visiting the Hill Country, you should definitely stay here! Thanks Don!
This place is wonderful. The cabin is very tidy and has exactly what we needed. It even has two bathrooms with outdoor access, which was perfect for coming in from a swim. It accommodates more than you'd expect from the size, and sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds and Don's amazing homemade fountain was the perfect way to start and end the day. And the river access was amazing! My niece and nephew even went kayaking by themselves, and they are only 9 and 6! This is mainly because this small branch of the river wasn't a thoroughfare and didn't have the crazy traffic or a strong current--in fact the water was quite still. The rope swing was the best part. There are plenty of life vests and tubes and rafts as well. The swimming platform was also a big hit. Perfect for families. I'd definitely come here again the next time I'm lucky enough to be in the area!
We were very pleased with our stay at the Cabin at Greentrees. Although our stay was only two nights we were able to really relax and enjoy our time. There's no need to leave the property, unless you want to enjoy some barbecue at Cal Bob's(well worth a 15 minute drive)! The cabin was wonderful. We loved the covered porch and all of the birds and hummingbirds were amazing. The water is easily accessible. There were kayaks, tubes, rafts, and other water toys for the kids and adults. The kids(and my husband and I) enjoyed the rope swing and kayaks during the day and catching fireflies as the sun set. The fire pit was just another added bonus for in the evening. There is also a nice little walking trail near the water and a grassy area for the kids to run or play frisbee, horse shoes, etc. With all the shade trees and the cool water it was comfortable even in 97 degree weather and a nice getaway from the Houston heat and humidity. Even in the river (although there's plenty of sunny spots)you can find enough shade to make it enjoyable in the middle of the afternoon. Our visit was in the summer but we would definitely go back during the fall and spring.
Our trip was amazing! We cooked steaks on the patio by the river, drank coffee while watching humming birds, and were able to enjoy all of the perks of the Hill Country!
I was impressed with every aspect of our trip. We brought all of the little things that usually aren't provided but the cabin already had everything we needed. I was glad to see that they provided flashlights because we were able to sit by the river at night and watch the fireflys play in the woods.
My wife wanted to get away and have a pleasant weekend touring vineyards and eating in Fredericksburg. I think that I had more fun playing on the ropeswing and kayaking down to the dam.
I highly recommend staying here. We plan to go back as soon as we can!
TEXAS HILL COUNTRY!
This area is known for it's hunting, summer camps, and outright beauty. Lots of good places to eat, hike, view wildlife. Visit the Point Theater and its Stonehenge replica, Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, Cailloux Theater, Kerr Wildlife Management Area. Stroll along the neat shops on Old Ingram Loop. Lots of things to do if you can get off the front porch or out of the Guadalupe River.
