We rented Mountain Vacation cabins for years, and fell in love with the Clayton area. So much so that we bought a home there. We now own other cabins which we share with others as rentals, so that they may enjoy this area as much as we do. If this cabin is booked, please ask if we have others available nearby.
Marti Barnette purchased this cabin in 2012

We rented this cabin recently for the New Year holiday. It was perfect for my husband & I, parents, & 3 small children. The owners were very helpful in re-setting the wifi, which was a must since there was no cell service (we have Verizon). The cabin is definitely very secluded & is a decent drive from town. Great area for the kids & hubby to explore too! Just wish the weather had been a little nicer! All in all, it was an awesome family vacation! The owners were ideal to work with!
We traveled 3 hours only to arrive at a cabin that we couldn't stay in because we could not withstand the moldy smell (this is how it smelled to us). Our son quickly began reacting to the conditions of the cabin because of his allergies. Soon after my wife had a runny nose. We were out in less than 10 minutes. The landlord was accommodating with our last minute arrangements; however she would not issue a full refund. I would not recommend this cabin to anyone.
This cabin was perfect! Very relaxing and secluded our phones didn't even work which was nice. It was clean and comfortable. The owner Marti was very accommodating with our last minute plans. We will be back again.
We ended up renting both cabins that are side by side after my friend and his kids came out a few days after we arrived. The cabins were very clean and comfortable. The owners were very nice and easy to get a hold of. Everything we needed was there including laundry and dish soap (possibly left by previous campers). The price was outstanding for the quality. For the price of a decent hotel room we had a two bedroom, two bath cabin that was absolutely beautiful. The air conditioning worked great. The water was very hot and the water pressure was unbelievably strong. The heat may actually need turned down a little to avoid scalding and to make the hot water last longer. After a few hot showers the hot water was gone.
I definitely recommend these cabins to any group with six or less people. The two cabins together could accommodate 12 to 14 comfortably. There are two large beds in both cabins and a comfortable couch in each. Larger cabin had a trundle bed that three kids could sleep on easily and cabin also had one or two folding beds.
The direct TV worked great in both cabins but the WIFI only worked in one cabin due to the modem going bad in the other. They were very apologetic and ordered a new modem right away but it did not get there during our five day stay. Hopefully they learned from this and will have an extra modem on hand in the future. For some people it is vital to have some connection to the world even on vacation. As the previous reviewer mentioned there is no cell phone signal for the most part so without internet we would have not had email, texting or anything which would make it very difficult to break up in groups and stay in touch. In the large cabin on the hill my friend was able to get one bar and limited service while standing outside on his cell phone. He survived without internet but was only there for three days.
The kitchens are small, one person kitchens but they are sufficient. They have everything you need to cook and full size refrigerators that were like new. There were no large trash cans inside or outside but they allowed us to leave our trash in a big bag inside. Trash can also be taken to a drop off location a few miles away.
The full size clothes washer and dryer was wonderful as well.
I can't express how pleased we were with the cleanliness of the cabin we stayed in. It looked brand new and made us very comfortable on our stay. If we are ever back in the area we will not hesitate to stay there again.
When we booked our last minute reservation, we were directed to this cabin. When I walked up, for some reason, I didn't remember pictures of the cabin I booked looking like this one. It turns out I was right. The cabin was double-booked, but the one next door was available (the one pictured on VRBO). We ended up staying here because we were the first guests to arrive. The cabin was certainly adequate and clean and the setting was lovely. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck in the evening and enjoying the changing leaves and quiet. The kitchen was very small, so if you plan on doing much cooking, be warned. Also, be sure and bring along a few of your favorite utensils, as the supply was minimal--You'll need a chef's knife, spatula, pairing knife, etc. We were also disappointed that the Direct TV did not work--we'd had a long day and wanted to relax in front of the TV. There was no cell phone service. Ask the owner for the cabin phone # to leave with family in case of emergency. I would rent here again, but would ask more questions before confirming my reservation.
