The owners live next door. Their house and the vacation rental house are on a 5-acre property next to a forested part of the Port Madison Indian Reservation. Troy, formerly an engineer, now grows orchids professionally. He did much of the renovation work. Phyllis is an ecologist and converted blackberry thickets, goat pen and weedy lawn to garden and native wildflower meadow. A sweet German shepherd living on the property showed up as a stray several years ago.
Troy Meyers purchased this cottage in 2005
We purchased this property to preserve the local forest ecology. By becoming its steward we kept it natural so that it continues to be a wildlife corridor to the adjacent wetlands.
The house is one-of-a-kind, of A-frame construction with rough-hewn logs and timbers, Douglas fir floors, and many interesting angles. The heavy rounded-top front door is secured by a big wooden lever. A split-log ladder-like staircase takes you to the loft master bedroom.
