The seaward side of the town features an elegant crescent of Georgian buildings and a promenade that, alongside the beach, stretches the length of the town and boasts a Victorian pier. The estuary side of the town is a lively place of fishing boats, beach huts and waterside inns, with the village of Shaldon just across the water. The area is well served by the A38, providing easy access to Newton Abbot, Exeter, Dartmoor and the numerous attractions of South Devon.
