117 Ocean View

117 Ocean View in Pismo Beach, is located right on the beach, South of the pier, by the turn around circle. We stayed in unit 5 which has a fantastic view, especially as this building sticks out about 20 feet further than the adjacent buildings. This gives you a beach view from all three sides. Depending on the time of year you will see Pelicans diving for fish, although most had already gone South in October. We did see dolphins on a couple of occasions slowly moving up the coast, as well as Turkey Vultures, Cormorants and other sea birds.
The décor and furnishings are quite dated, wood paneling on the walls and an older kitchen & bathrooms. The unit was reasonably clean, but not sparkling. There is a large flat screen TV, but we could not get the DVD player to work. There were no instructions on how to use, but it was the last evening of our stay, so a call to the office might have solved the problem. A parking spot is provided in the underground garage, street parking can be hard to find.
It is easy walking distance to quite a few restaurants, the Sea Venture is right next door. If you don’t mind a 15 minute walk up the hill to Steamers you are rewarded with a great ocean view. We had both dinner and lunch there on separate days, food and service was very good. We also went to Ventana Grill, which used to be Pelican Point Inn, and is about another 10 minutes’ walk past Steamers. Again a great ocean view, good food and service, but had to wait 30 minutes for a table, they do not take reservations for less than 8 people. We also had lunch at Spyglass Inn, about a 10 minute drive North, quite casual but great views from the outside patio.
