My husband and I grew up vacationing on Atlantic Beach and Harkers Island. Nine years ago we moved to Harkers Island. We love the quaint community and people here, but especially the great fishing and seafaring lifestyle.
Cape Escape is a another place in paradise for us and we look forward to sharing it with you.
This house is located in the heart of Harkers Island. Great lot, fenced in half acre yard, beautiful Live Oak trees and peaceful surroundings. The grocery store, restaurants, bait & tackle and marina are all within a 5 minute walk.
Cape Escape is a great house for any person or family looking to relax and experience the rich heritage of Harkers Island.
There are no stop lights, street lights or sidewalks. You blaze your own trail on Harkers Island. A short 15 minute ferry ride and you can be on Cape Lookout National Seashore. The unique diagonal checkerboard design lighthouse is available for climbing May-September. Another favorite attraction is the wild horses of Shackleford Banks, also known as 'Banker ponies'. They are the oldest documented horse population. Both the lighthouse and the banks offer great shelling, hiking, kayaking and site seeing adventures.
At the east end of the island, also referred to as Shell Point, is Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center. It is open daily and offers special exhibitions along with two floors of Down East history, memories and special people.
Harkers Island is well known for fishing and boating. There is boat parking at the house, a marina within walking distance and a public boat ramp 2 miles away.
Harkers Island is a short drive to Historic Beaufort and the NC Maritime Museum.
Come and enjoy the treasure of a heritage of living, loving and working the water.
