My husband and I grew up vacationing on Atlantic Beach and Harkers Island. Nine years ago we moved to Harkers Island. We love the quaint community and people here, but especially the great fishing and seafaring lifestyle.

Cape Escape is a another place in paradise for us and we look forward to sharing it with you.

This house is located in the heart of Harkers Island. Great lot, fenced in half acre yard, beautiful Live Oak trees and peaceful surroundings. The grocery store, restaurants, bait & tackle and marina are all within a 5 minute walk.

We had a great time. Everything was nice and clean. We had plenty of room to spread out
and enjoy. Took the ferry over to see Lookout Lighthouse and spend the day on the beach.
Beautiful and beautiful weather. Hope to get back here.

GREAT ESCAPE

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at Cape Escape was great. We have two small children and were there with really awful weather in the off season, but the house provided ample space for playtime when stuck inside. Kitchen had everything we needed, everything was very clean (pretty awesome for a pet-friendly rental) and Beth was really a wonderful host. Harkers is very quaint and quiet, and I'm sure it would be great with a couple of kayaks. Ferry to the banks/lighthouse is a five minute drive and restaurant is a two minute walk. It's about 20 mins to Beaufort and 45 mins to the aquarium. All was fabulous, we hope to make it back in better weather!

PERFECT TRIP!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I could not have enjoyed our stay at cape escape more. We completely feel in love with Harker's Island. This house had a lot to do with it. The house was immaculate, well decorated, and comfortable. It had a great island feel. The house was so relaxing to be in and had everything we needed. The fence was a wonderful thing for our dog who enjoyed the stay every bit as much as we did. We have already booked a return visit.

VERY CLEAN AND RELAXING COTTAGE

  • 5 of 5
This was a wonderful place to stay. The owners are absolutely wonderful and ensured my daughters stay was memorable. We were on the island for my daughters wedding and Beth went out of her way to ensure she had nothing to worry about. I recommend this wonderful cottage if you visit Harkers Island.

Owner's Response: Cheers to great beginnings and many years of love and happiness. The weather was perfect and I'm sure the happy couple were given a great send off.
I greatly appreciate the beautiful glass art gift. I have placed it in the yard where the light refracts the beauty of the glass. It's been quite the conversation piece.
We hope you will return to Cape Escape for another family event.
Warm regards,
Beth & Peter

Cape Escape is a great house for any person or family looking to relax and experience the rich heritage of Harkers Island.

There are no stop lights, street lights or sidewalks. You blaze your own trail on Harkers Island. A short 15 minute ferry ride and you can be on Cape Lookout National Seashore. The unique diagonal checkerboard design lighthouse is available for climbing May-September. Another favorite attraction is the wild horses of Shackleford Banks, also known as 'Banker ponies'. They are the oldest documented horse population. Both the lighthouse and the banks offer great shelling, hiking, kayaking and site seeing adventures.

At the east end of the island, also referred to as Shell Point, is Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center. It is open daily and offers special exhibitions along with two floors of Down East history, memories and special people.

Harkers Island is well known for fishing and boating. There is boat parking at the house, a marina within walking distance and a public boat ramp 2 miles away.

Harkers Island is a short drive to Historic Beaufort and the NC Maritime Museum.

Come and enjoy the treasure of a heritage of living, loving and working the water.
