Our stay was heavenly! The grounds are unbelievable, and the inn is luxuriously comfortable. The waterfall, the trails, the views from the porch, they are all wonderful. Clean and tidy. Will definitely return.
Nina Kis Bradbury
My name is Nina and I am your Hostess/ Inn Keeper. I was born and raised in New Jersey, went to college down South at The University of Florida, and then moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area where I lived for over 21 years. Fortunately, I was eventually able to find my way to Western North Carolina in 2008.
My children and I absolutely LOVE living here. I’m a big fan of hiking, gardening, running, nature…and of course, entertaining you. I am so fond of this house and property that I currently reside in one of the guest rooms, and therefore am almost always around and available to help make your stay the best that it can be.
I have three children who also live on the property with me, part-time: Natalie, Nicole, and Tommy.
Maddie and Toby are also part of our family. Maddie is a friendly black lab mix who likes to run, hike and chase squirrels.
Toby is a beagle mix who is extremely shy and has a heart of gold. Be careful…because he loves to lick and kiss! We are really looking forward to meeting you and welcoming you into our family!
Many of our friends ask about the history of Wintersun. The answer is that it is very old, and it is very new. Remains of structures dating over 200 years old have been found on the property, and the springhouse, which is still standing, has been in use for at least 150 years. The name “Wintersun” came to be sometime in the long ago part, legend being that if there was sun to be found in the winter, it was on this hill.
I am very new to this property. And am very grateful and blessed to have found it. I was led to this current new life of mine through a series of people who indirectly brought me to meet with the owners of the property. When I met Judy Carter and Susan Sluyter, I knew my life would be change forever…for the good . I was offered the opportunity to run and manage the Inn at Wintersun, and that was definitely an opportunity of a lifetime ! My heart and soul were filled with thanks, and on July of 2012, my new life’s journey begins…
Judy and Susan’s story from the past is beyond generous and inspirational. This story I share with you might help explain these ladies’ selflessness and abundance of love. Their gift to the community, their friends and family, the past and future guests of the Inn, and to me and my family is extraordinary.
Susan and Judy had a goal to build a home place which could also serve as a retreat center for non-profit professionals whose work is in the least desirable and highest demand social service environments, i.e., homeless shelters, domestic violence centers, etc. Judy and Susan had since retired from the business world and wanted to use their skills and gifts to offer to the community. Susan being a Psychologist and Judy’s as a Manager and Administrator, both of these generous and heartful ladies wanted to be of service to those who care for the neediest among us.
Many things that have happened here feel like magic, and this property becoming available one happy August day in the early 1990’s begins the story.
From the moment I drove through the gates which lead into the the magical grounds of the Inn at Wintersun, I knew this is where I was meant to be!!! The feeling was validated as I passed by a Doe with her new born Fawn nuzzled up again her and then a Blue Heron flew over the creek. This is a place to relax, rejuvenate and nurture your soul and spirit to find your inner peace.
