Rodanthe House Rental Photos and Description

4 Bed, 4.5 Bath Soundfront Home on Pamlico Sound in Rodanthe, NC

Rack up your travel miles at Rodanthe’s vacation home, Frequent Flyer! Whether it’s a day at the sandy ocean beach, water activities on the Pamlico Sound, world class fishing, or island exploration, let Frequent Flyer be the hub of your next vacation.

Check your flight plan online with a full video tour and pictures! See what other guests have to say about the Frequent Flyer in the traveler reviews section and don’t forget to like us on Facebook.

Why choose the Frequent Flyer? Because the Frequent Flyer features four bedrooms, each with their own private bath and TV, two with private decks! This fully appointed vacation home boasts spacious living and dining areas, a cook-pleasing kitchen, and expansive decks for incredible views of the Pamlico Sound and breathtaking sunsets. You can access the Sound via a private grassy lawn to swim, fish or play using the owner-provided kayaks and standup paddleboards! The Atlantic Ocean is just a short walk with paved access all the way to the beach. There you can relax all day thanks to owner-provided chairs and umbrellas. There are no long paths across dunes to struggle with on this part of the island. You can stay connected with complimentary internet access or unplug and tour the villages on the owner-provided bikes. Sit back, relax and make your vacation a first class experience at the Frequent Flyer.

The Frequent Flyer from a Parent’s Perspective

If you’re like me, “family vacation” brings Chevy Chase and the Griswold’s to mind. Bored kids, an over-packed “family truckster” and expensive meals are just the beginning! I wanted to share why vacationing with my family at The Frequent Flyer takes the National Lampoon out of the equation and makes for not only great family fun but also a real vacation for me.

The ‘man cave’ (aka garage area) of The Frequent Flyer is packed with extras to keep everyone busy! From sand toys to bikes and Kayak’s to stand up paddleboards, the family will have plenty to do and you won’t have to pack, or worse rent, all of the toys that make life at the beach more fun. There are even beach chairs and beach umbrellas for the whole family!

From the best tanning deck on the house I can watch my kids play safely on the beach of the shallow-water Sound. They spend hours trying to catch hermit crabs and minnows while I catch up on my tan and favorite book.

Walkie-Talkies are available for the kids if they take a bike ride to the corner store so I can give them a little freedom but still keep in touch. And, the walkie-talkies work from the house to both the Ocean Beach and the Sound Beach for older kids.

The fully equipped kitchen means we can save a fortune on restaurant meals and my teenagers can eat their late night cereal and frozen pizza. We save buying the bulky but essential items such as napkins, tin foil, saran wrap, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies because the owner provides them as a convenience. And when you decide to eat out, the local restaurants are family friendly, reasonably priced and amazing.

The Frequent Flyer from a Watersport Enthusiast

The Frequent Flyer has a grassy 1 acre Soundfront lot, a perfect rigging area for every water sport. As a windsurfer and kiteboarder who has been coming to the Outer Banks for 30 years, there is no better Sound access on Hatteras Island. The winds from the S to NNE are ideal for kite and windsurf launching at the house. As winds go NE to SE, you can launch directly across the street on the Ocean side.

The house includes a ground floor enclosed ‘man cave’ plus a storage room for equipment. There are equipment racks outside for drying and inside to lock up at night. A half bath and two showers are outside under the house, in addition to a cleaning station with a utility sink and hose. We can clean up our gear so that it is ready the next day. Rigging, launching, and storing your gear is a breeze at the Frequent Flyer.

The ‘man cave’ also has a TV, small bar and a fridge which adds to the convenience factor. This house really caters to those who want access to the Sound and Ocean for watersports. When the wind is not blowing, the Frequent Flyer still delivers with 6 bikes for cruising the island, 3 kayaks, and 2 stand up paddle boards. And of course, no trip to Hatteras Island is complete without a visit to the local surf shops. Fortunately, Real Watersports, Kitty Hawk Kites, and other shops are all within a few miles.

The Frequent Flyer from a Fishing Perspective

Why settle for the Ocean or Sound when you can have them both! The Frequent Flyer is located on a very narrow segment of the island providing access to both Ocean and Sound fishing. If your target is inlet fishing, “Oregon Inlet” and the “New New Inlet” are just north of the Frequent Flyer.

Convenient storage areas make unloading and storing your gear simple. A deluxe, outdoor fish-cleaning table makes prep a breeze. Bring your casting net as bait can easily be caught along the shore of the Sound. If you prefer to buy bait, or need to update your fishing gear, several bait and tackle shops are just down the street including, Hatteras Jack.

Offshore Fishing Charters are available from nearby Oregon Inlet or head south to the Hatteras Inlet. The Frequent Flyer is a dream vacation spot for the avid fishing enthusiast and novices alike.

About Mark Haines

The Frequent Flyer was named after the owner’s favorite pastime (well, he would argue it is not a pastime but a lifestyle) kiteboarding, and the way he earned his kiteboard time: traveling more than 1.5 million miles by air, working for an engineering company.

An avid windsurfer from back in the early eighties, Mark started kiting in 2000 and quickly became an addict. He soon became a new type of Frequent Flyer, earning miles of airtime boosting, popping, jumping, and soaring over the Pamlico Sound.

Mark Haines purchased this house in 2009

Why Mark Haines chose Rodanthe

As his millions of Frequent Flyer miles dwindled, being used up on airfare from Cincinnati (CVG) to Norfolk (ORF), Mark realized it might be time to become a local in order to support his kite habit. In 2009, the family purchased the now Frequent Flyer. They hope that it is a fun vacation destination for families visiting the Outerbanks in the summer and a great spot for Kiters, especially Mark, in the windy off season.

What makes this house unique

As a windsurfer and kiteboarder who has been coming to the OUter Banks for 30 years, there is no better Sound access for rigging and launching on Hatteras Island than what the Frequent Flyer offers. The spot is a dream come true for Mark and Frequent Flyer guests.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Heralding from "wetsuit land" of Tofino, British Columbia, all I can say about Rodanthe, OBX and Frequent Flyer is ...

HELL YAH!

We had it all ... learned to SUP, watched water spouts form in the Sound, electrical storms that blew our hair back, kayaked, and got bent in half by wicked waves ... then back to R.E.L.A.X. and farkle at your SWEET PAD ... felt like home!

Well run house

  • 4 of 5
Frequent Flyer is a well run house. Everything was very clean and well equipped. Mark was very responsive, organized and accommodating. Our only comment is that there was an unusual amount of mosquitos this year due the hurricane. Otherwise we had a great vacation.

Owner's Response: Glad everyone had a good vacation. Sorry you hit a bad week for mosquitoes. I am sure the Hurricane did not help as they had not been an issue most of the summer. Hope to see you again.

Soundfabulous!

  • 5 of 5
While the house allows for all to relax and get ready in our own private space, it is the location and amenities that knocks this out of the park! From Mark calling and giving advice on stores and fishing, to the kayaks and paddleboard, to the sound and beach access, it was serene and lovely...even when it was in the 90s. When the wind turns north and the tide is low, visit the shipwreck marked by flags in the sound. Either walk out or take a kayak. And the laid-back atmosphere is just the reason we visited. You feel home, even if it's 11 hours away.

If you like more commercialized areas, Kitty Hawk and Nags Head are for you. Rodanthe is a nook of the OBX that hasn't been over-developed, hence the little critters you get to enjoy-crabs nesting on the beach and hermit crabs and fish racing across the sandy bottom of the sound. Our kids loved communing with nature. And when the wind picks up, the kite boarders brighten the sky. But you will need bug spray in case you run across those pesky mosquitoes. Of course, coffee is best on one of the decks (4), watching the sun arrive and set!

Read the books about the house's construction and owner's closet. Alas, the boat is off limits. ;) Before you leave,, look at the book about the coastline and you realize how precarious of a position we are in to keep the OBX a reality for future generations.

This place was the best of both worlds and with all the games, toys, kayaks, paddleboard, and bikes, choosing this was a no brainer. Thank you for allowing us to visit, Mark!

There are general stores in Rodanthe, but if you are in a bind, the general store by the campground is STOCKED. Food lion in Avon (15-20 minute drive), and in NH. The Froggy Dog is yummy in Avon. Austin's steamer pots are no fuss and feeds plenty, and Top Dog was fun to visit (and eat) locally. Oh, visit the pier! Feeling lucky? Go all the way to the end. And the lighthouses! How much space do I have? Horseback riding in Buxton...Pea Island...just book the house if you can!

Frequent Flyer Rental

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying at Frequent Flyer. With three grown children this house had more than enough room for everyone to have their own space. The kitchen had every amenity needed to take the stress out of cooking Thanksgiving dinner.
The house was immaculate with nothing to want for.In addition to being beautiful inside the views from the decks were incredible.Even in November we enjoyed watching the kite boarders. It was great having the sound on one side and beach access across the street. It was chilly but we did manage to play many hours cornhole and take advantage of the bikes provided.
The house looks exactly like the pictures and video.Mark takes great pride in his home. He is very reliable and was always available from start to finish. His new property also looks great which is right next door to this one. We plan to go back durning the summer when we can take advantage of the paddle boards ,kayaks, and the beautiful beach. Thank You Mark for a very memorable and stress free trip.

Absolutely perfect in every respect

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I and two close friends and their son stayed at the Frequent Flyer the first week in October. Every aspect of our stay was absolutely perfect.

From our first contact with the owner, his care and attention to detail was superlative. Mark was very responsive to our email requests for information about his home. The fact that the house comes stocked with 6 bicycles, 3 kayaks and 2 stand up paddle boards made this a unique offering and convinced us that this was the home for us to rent after having reviewed many in the area. The registration process was easy and very well executed.

We were grateful that Mark allowed us to check in early, as we were attending a wedding approximately 30 minutes north on the island and appreciated the ability to leave our bags and change before the wedding.

The home was modern, clean, well stocked, and beautifully decorated. This was not your standard rental. It's clear that Mark and his wife take great pride in their home and wish to extend that to others.

The location was ideal for us.We spent mornings on the sound and afternoons on the beach. The bike / running path was easily accessible. There are options for dining nearby, although we never wanted to leave the house in the early evening, preferring to stay and watch the sunset over the deck.

Mark addressed every one of our questions during our stay, and could not have been more attentive. He was the ideal host.

I cannot over emphasize what a special property this is. Do yourself a favor. Don't look any further. This is the place.

Owner's Response: Thank you! We were very happy to meet all of you! We are glad we could make your stay special. The Frequent Flyer (and now the Sky Club too) is definitely a labor of love. Your stay, appreciation and care of our home makes all of our effort worthwhile. We hope to see you again very soon!
