STYLISH BALINESE BEACH HOME-FABULOUS OCEAN VIEWS, SPA & STEPS TO KEHENA BEACH

The owners met us upon arrival and introduced us to the house. This didn't take long but we wanted to know the rules and systems, all homes are different. The house was immaculate and we were invited to remove our shoes while in the house. This was the first step to tropical paradise as we were on a flight from the mainland in what seemed an all day flight. The house was exactly like the photos on the website and the rental as described. We felt like we were a long way from the city but had shopping and amenities close by.

The owners are very welcoming and personable. They let us know about events in the area during our stay, like the Kalapana Market, and recommended a restaurant in Pahoa, Kaleos. We ate there the first and last night we were on the Island. Have the Lili koi cheesecake for dessert. The owners are knowledgeable of the area. Uncle's in Kalapana has decent food and good live entertainment and hosts the local market, a good place to get goods handmade by local artisans.

We had a relaxing stay with no problems and enjoyed the amenities of the house. We loved the rock shower, ambiance of the Bali house and grounds. The Papayas were almost ready to harvest when we had to leave. The Coqui Frogs were like "white noise" to fall to sleep to. Kehena Beach was a wonderful place to sun and play in the surf. We used the beach in the mornings as the sun was on the beach then and it wasn't crowded. There are so many things we didn't do we will have to return again.

I just stayed at Karlos and Kenny's sanctuary with my husband and 16 month old son. If you only want to read a sentence or two, this is a property you must stay and experience. Very clean, comfortable, inviting and amazing location.

The house is so unique and tastefully furnished. There were lots of cool art pieces to enjoy. The architecture and attention to detail in the home was nice. The kitchen was perfect for cooking a small meal or a feast. It has everything you need. The view from all of the rooms is so pleasant and relaxing. It is right across a small street from such a hidden gem of a beach. We made coffee and walked down the front steps to watch the sunrise. A black sand beach is literally at your toes. Other great things that are near by are the warm pools, the volcano steam vent, more black sand beaches at every turn, the road itself is a little tropical gem!

And wait until you meet the owners Kenny and Karlos. They met us at the house to hand over the keys and we got to chatting about the house, the island, life, we wanted to invite them to stay for a beer or wine. So nice and inviting, we truly felt welcomed.

I debated staying at cheaper places in Pahoa and surrounding areas but after seeing Kenny and Karlos' place I could not resist booking it. I am so glad we did and wish I could have stayed longer. I had seen the pics online but it was even more stunning in person and my fiance was blown away. He had been to Bali before and marveled at the beautiful imported wood. The owners are delightful and even presented us with a bottle of wine (although sadly we didn't have time to drink it - next time!). As other reviews have stated, this is truly a magical place with the kind of luxurious amenities and style you won't usually find in this area. I got a salad one day at the popular Kalani Resort just down the street and definitely would chose this place over that resort any day. It was perfect place to get close to nature (lots of frogs and geckos around but you get used to it), get off the grid (no cell phone service for miles) and feel like a local (no hotel chain packages or tourist-y signs anywhere :) For dinners, stock up on groceries (there's a great natural food store in Pahoa on the way), order in advance from their personal chef (menu is on the dining table), or go to Kalapana Cafe at the end of the road. We primarily came to Big Island for the volcanoes and to see the lava flows, and this is a perfect base for it. We did it all in three days - we did the National Park the first day which is 50 mins away (it's actually closer than that, but there's really only one main road to get in so you have to go around). Next day was the black sand beach right across the street then later up close with lava on a guided walk with Dawn Marie - a great guide the owners hooked us up with - that starts at the end of the road (I think if you do the lava boat tour you pick that up just north of the road) followed by the night farmer's market party, also at the end of the road. Third day we did the natural warm spring pool just 5 miles up the same street (the "Red Road" is beautiful to drive along by the way with lots more to see if you have time) and then spending time in Hilo before catching our flight at Hilo airport.
