You'll love this brand new cottage with unobstructed views to he east plus wonderful open space for outdoor fun. The beach will offer hours of fun for exploring and experiencing the local wildlife.
Leave the city cares behind and enjoy this rural setting. Located near Obstruction Pass Trailhead Park for a hiking experience you won't forget. Mooring Buoy, no dingy.
My family saw this property by boat over a hundred years ago and became an original settler on Orcas Island homesteading about 150 acres in total.
Karen Key Speck purchased this cottage in 1890
There were five children who each inherited property.
My son and I bought this particular piece of land from my brother. We built a new cottage, but retained the rural spirit of the beautiful land, beach and views.
The end of the road privacy is a special commodity in this busy, hectic world. At our beautiful cottage you can walk the beach, play in the field, sun on the deck, or relax inside with a good book. We invite you to see what our family discovered over 122 years ago. You can even visit the local museum and learn about our homesteading forefathers.
My parents and I rented this little cottage for 3 nights in September. We had amazing weather and the house and grounds were perfect for us. My mother loved the kitchen, and my Dad and I the view of the water, private beach and view of Mt. Baker. I spent all of the mornings watching the sunrise over Mt. Baker just to go back and watch the alpenglow on Mt. Baker as the sunset behind us. Neighbors were quiet. House had everything we needed. I believe the owner is a descendant of the original homesteader and we chatted with some family a bit when they drove down the lane. Very welcoming and friendly. The rental company was easy to work with and gave very detailed directions on how to get to this little part of the island. The only thing I would change for next time is maybe to pay for the housecleaning as the list of things to do made us a bit nervous. That said, I promptly received my full deposit back. Would definitely return.
This was a fantastic house on a beautiful piece of property. The view itself is worth everything. We loved the private beach and grassy rock to sit on. Each morning we brought our coffee and breakfast down to the water, enjoyed the incredible views of water, islands, and Mt. Baker, and felt like we were the only ones around. The short walk from waterfront to the house made it feel like we had the whole property to ourselves and was incredibly enjoyable. I cannot emphasize this enough - the views, nature, and surroundings are incredible! Great yard to bring a football or frisbee to play around on or just laze in a chair. It would be perfect in the summer to bring your kayak and leave straight from the front yard!
Onto the house, a perfect size! The open living room and dining room made it feel comfortable, the wood burning fireplace gave us something to cozy up to at night, and the well equipped kitchen was great to cook in. Beds were comfortable, bathroom was spacious, and the deck was perfect to sit on. Huge windows on the whole front of the house gave us quite the view to wake up to and go to bed to. The 2 bedrooms were good size and comfortable. House was clean and well-maintained.
The location was great. Close to Doe Bay and Olga Cafe (a must do!). Easy access and a short drive from Eastsound and the ferry and very close to Mt. Constitution and Moran State Park.
Karen was great work with as well - we can't wait to come back!
We have been coming to Orcas Island for our anniversary for at least 10 years, and this is our new "favorite!" The new 2-bedroom waterfront cottage, with expansive views to the east over Rosario Strait and Cypress Island, is on a park-like lawn leading to a low-bank waterfront cove. We were able to easily launch our kayaks from the pebble beach, and enjoyed watching a family of otters in the cove, as well as three bald eagles that hang out on the picturesque rocky peninsula that juts from the shore. This is truly a magnificent place to wind down and relax. It's the most quiet spot we have found to stay on Orcas, although it's only about 15 minutes from East Sound.
The house itself is exceptionally comfortable, with a new suede couch in the living room, a queen bed in each bedroom with high quality mattresses, and a large bathroom with a deep tub/shower combination. Two rollaway twin beds are offered for larger families. The home is nicely equipped with everything you need to prepare meals, which we enjoyed eating out on the deck (there's a big gas barbeque there too). The house also has a large HD television/DVR (if you can ever tear your eyes off that view--we couldn't) and washer and dryer.
Dorothy, the owner, is a gem. Her family has owned the property since it was homesteaded 120 years ago, and they still live nearby but are not in the least obtrusive. We intend to come back here whenever we can, and highly recommend it to others. They also host weddings, large and small, using a large shelter near the water. What a great place to begin a marriage, or to put the pizzaz back into one!
We rented this cottage for 2 weeks - one with our children and grandchildren and one week without the full family.
The pictures on the site accurately represent the cottage. The cottage was clean and very well-equipped. Two large windows and a glass door provide a spectacular view of the Rosario strait that serves freighters, sailboats and fishing boats. The large deck provided wonderful downtime to enjoy these views.
We played ball on the spacious yard, enjoyed numerous explorations of the pebble beach and watched an eagle who makes the peninsula it's home. Since the picnic area was not used during our stay the little cove became our own private beach.
In our real life, we live in a rural area so the atmosphere of the location and the extraordinarily friendly and helpful owners felt just right. I suppose someone who expects the hotel accommodations or a crowded white-sand beach might not have the terrific vacation that we had.
For us, the experience of waking to this magnificent view and exploring Orcas Island was everything we hoped that it would be.
