PRIVATE HONEYMOONERS/WRITER'S CABIN W/ BOLD STREAM AND PARKWAY ACCESS

Deep Gap Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

2 bedroom, 1 bath Stargazer Cabin

For those looking for an escape from the fast-paced life of the city, and who want to disconnect from the rat-race, this little 1920 farmhouse is the perfect solution. This house takes you back to a time when life was simple. Relax on the covered front porch overlooking the pasture and listen to the soothing sounds of the rushing stream and the joyful chorus of nature. Curl up with a book in one of the home's cozy nooks, or go for a invigorating morning walk along the gravel roads or trails through the many acres of mature forests that surround the house. Kick back in the hot tub on the cool nights and enjoy the firefly show, start a warm fire in the fire pit, or just lay out under the stars of the protected Dark Skies area to take in the magnificence of creation.

Guestbook comments from the manager
Thank you so much for letting us use your house. We had an awesome time. Saw several shooting stars. She said it was much better in person than the photos. We had dinner in Boone, at Blackcat burrito Friday night before we went there. Saturday we went to Grandfather mountain and Linville Caverns. And then spent the afternoon at the house. We didn't want to leave, and we can't wait till we can get an opportunity to go back. Loved the drive in, be its a handful in the winter time. The showerhead leaked a little, I tightened it up some, may need some sealant on it. Again, thank you.

I grew up in Wilmington, NC, went to school at NC State and Lees-McRae, obtained a Business degree and have invested in real estate for about 7 years. I left my management job with Food Lion after 15 years of employment, to start a career as a real estate agent just a year and a half ago...and love it! I got married 2 years ago to Kimberly who has a Violin Performance degree from ASU, and we just moved to town in Boone, and decided to keep this property for friends and family to use, and to rent out for others to enjoy as we have for years!

Benjamin Ray purchased this farmhouse in 2004

After visiting the mountains with friends to hike numerous times, I bought this little cabin as my first home, while I lived in Charlotte so that I would have a place to escape from the city on the weekends. Of course, the more I escaped, the more difficult is was for me to return to the traffic, the heat, and the smells of the metro. After owning it for a year, a job opened up for me in the mountains, and I gladly accepted! And I've never looked back!

The first time I drove down the long driveway through the mature canopy of trees, and heard the sound of the stream from my car, I knew this was my place of paradise. The solitude and the beauty of untouched nature has been my refuge for 8 years. I embraced the rich history of the house and its stone steps and patio made from the rocks from the creek, and the oak beams and frame, hand cut on site, all still standing after 90 years of use and neglect. I had the privilege of restoring the home completely and making it my own, from the roof to the floor and even further by having the whole house lifted 2 feet to help preserve it for years to come. I've enjoyed the simple charm of watching the thousands of butterflies that come every year to the butterfly trees behind the house, the wildlife sightings of deer, hawks, waterfowl, turkey, groundhogs, raccoon, and even a bear, the nightly display of the brilliant lights of the fireflies, and of course, the STARS!

A true get away!

  • 5 of 5
Stayed 3 days and wish it was a month. This is a true get away from it all kind of place. Very quiet and secluded. Saw 3 vehicles in 3 days. Add some rockers to the porch and it would be perfect. Just go prepared cause you can't just run out to the store in 10 mins which is exactly what I was looking for. We love the mountains and this place really fit the bill. Having your morning coffee on the porch listening to the stream and watching the 100's of butterflies in the clearing was awesome. You can't rent a motel room in Boone for this price. We will be back!!!

A little piece of Heaven!

  • 5 of 5
My family and I enjoyed our second visit to your amazing little cabin, and will most definitely make this our "go-to" place to stay when we visit the mountains from here on out. Our 4 year old little girl and our big "fur baby" had a blast running around the huge yard and exploring around the rushing stream. We enjoyed s'mores every night at the fire pit, along with evening swims in the hot tub while watching the beautiful night sky light up with lightening bugs. This cabin has a lot of privacy and has just what you need as far as amenities go. We also enjoyed the fact that there is no cell phone service so we weren't on our phones - checking work emails, etc. We had fun playing cards and Candy Land that was available in the game room, and exploring the great outdoors instead! Lots of fun stuff to do nearby too ~ we visited Tweetsie Railroad, rode the Blue Ridge Parkway to Linville Falls and Linville Caverns, hiked trails off the Blue Ridge, shopped in downtown Blowing Rock, and of course a trip to the Mast General Store. We will definitely be coming back to your cabin in the future! Thank you! =)

Superior natural Experiences. . .

  • 3 of 5
If you crave a beautiful spot in nature, completely private, this is your place. But, as cute as this old farmhouse is, the interior was very lacking. I contacted the owner after reading how lacking the kitchen was on cookware, and was assured there were pots and pans. Well, there were very old skillets, all small. There were no mixing bowls, and although advertised to sleep six, there wasn't even enough silverware. The stairs are very steep, and there is no railing to the second story which is extremely hazardous. This could be a dream spot if only a few of life's basics were added. The owner is personable, and has done a great job brining this back from the adding of almost one- hundred years... But a few additions would make this a perfect place! Again, the setting is wonderful... But the nearest restraints are so far, that cooking is almost a given! I hope he does make these improvements, as I would definitely come again!!

Owner's Response: I'm glad you enjoyed the place. This is the first I have heard about the silverware and pots being missing. I supplied plenty, but apparently guests have taken things from the house over time. I'll buy some more needed items as requested and ask my cleaners to deliver it. I would really prefer renters bringing things like this to my attention rather than proclaiming it for all the world to hear. Seems a bit aggressive; why not just send me an email? I really try to go over and above to make this house a wonderful place for guests. Oh well. I suppose the other positive comments outweigh one like this. Also, the stairs are not ever going to have a handrail due to how narrow the staircase is. All renters: please read the description and look at the pictures before booking this cabin and leaving comments about the stairs. It is a 1920s farmhouse!!!

cabin rental

  • 4 of 5
The cabin was very nice. The stairway as mentioned before was very narrow. If you have small kids, are old or unfit you will not be able to get up it. Our old dog had to be carried up. There is a bed on the bottom floor however, said bed creaks like nothing else and is rather small (full I believe) and uncomfortable. It was a very basic cabin with a beautiful view of the creek. We did not have firewood for a fire outside and I could not get the tub to fill up all the way with hot water I even filled it half with hot, waited 30 min and tried to fill the rest but there was still no more hot water. Also, some instructions for the heater would be nice as it took a long time to figure it out. Although when we did it worked just fine. Overall it was an ok cabin however for the price I would have liked a bit more in the way of a hot bath, more toilet paper, paper towels, firewood, and heater instructions. The road to the cabin was fine but would be very difficult in a reg car if it were wet or snowy. It is right off the blue ridge pkwy and it takes about 30 min to get to a grocery store. If you rent make sure to bring your own paper towels, hot tub towels, a flashlight, extra blankets and seasonings. Overall fine but was a total of about 450 for 4 nights. Oh and there is a nice dog runner line and a dog house but the runner went over the tall creek and worried us too much to use it. The cabin was nice and close to many Blue Ridge locations to drive to.
Dogs had a blast.

Owner's Response: I appreciate your stay, and am glad you had a good time. The issue of the water heater will be addressed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. Heater instructions were sent with cabin instructions the day before arrival. There are towels for 6 guests (as a couple you were welcome to use all of them), and 1 paper towel roll included. Firewood is not provided, but guests are allowed to use any dead wood found on the 5 acres. The road is paved and state-maintained. I lived there for 8 years and made it safely to and from Boone daily. The queen bed is upstairs and the full is below. Of course guests should bring their own TP and towels if more is needed, since no one comes to the house like a hotel to refresh things. As mentioned in the listing, there are stairs.

The house is old and quaint, very secluded, and a great setting. Very peaceful and quiet. The house is old and some amenities are not there, but the setting makes up for that.
