Completely private studio apartment in small brownstone building.

'The Dutch Room' is a 375 square foot Studio on the second floor of a 1896 Brownstone row house. We live on the first floor of this four story building and have one other VRBO Studio across the hall from this one.

There is one queen sized reproduction antique sleigh bed, choice 19th century antique furnishings, a handsome non-working fireplace, two very large windows facing north, a large desk, dining table, kitchen and bathroom with tub.

You will want to know that this apartment was completely gutted and fully renovated in the summer of 2012 with a completely new kitchen featuring Carrara marble countertops and Crema Marfil marble floors. The bathroom and kitchen are small but comfortable and fully appointed. The towels are by Ralph Lauren.

The magnificent bed is made up with Ralph Lauren bedding and there are four Laura Ashley brand pillows, each of a different firmness.

About Warren Ashworth

We are a married couple who live on the ground floor, one of us is an architect, the other a composer of classical music. We both work from home. We usually will greet you upon your arrival and are happy to guide you to features of the neighborhood. The building is extremely quiet and secure, as is the tree lined block in the heart of the Upper West Side. You are just steps from the greatest museums, shopping and entertainment in the world.

We have two VRBO units in this brownstone, each across the hall from the other. The other unit, The Metropolitan Room, is listed under VRBO 327144. Families and friends often like to book both. They are both studios and have the same rental rates.

What makes this studio unique

High ceilings with lovely ceiling fans, big windows, quiet, beautifully furnished with antiques except the bed and chairs which are new and clean.

Unlike many listings these days, The Dutch Room is fully licensed by the City and State of New York to operate as a hotel for which we collect and pay taxes. Our license numbers are available upon request.

Two 50+ Wanting a New York Experience

The location of this apartment is perfect for access to Central Park and the two bustling and interesting Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues with a wonderful variety of restaurants, shops, boutiques, and people watching! Great subway access, but if you like to walk, enjoyable to walk from here to Chelsea, Greenwich, etc. The space was all we needed, and the owners warm and welcoming. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to friends and family.

Cozy rest stop

Our stay in the Dutch Room coincided with brutally cold weather. Having a warm room to recover in made the difference between a grim visit to a big city and a memorable long weekend on the neighborly West Side. The host greeted us when we arrived, Madeleine was on the spot whenever we needed her. And what's not to like about having coffee, juice and milk waiting in the fridge? I don't think I'll ever stay in a hotel again!

This property is outstanding. I have stayed in quite a number of accommodation rentals in NYC and elsewhere. This property, in tandem with the generosity and professionalism of the owners, makes it the place you try to book first in the upper west side. Warning, it's heavily booked a lot of the time. Now you know why!

Great Stay

The studio is exactly as described. Newly renovated, nicely furnished, very clean. We both felt very comfortable and slept really well. The apartment is up the front stoop and one flight of stairs once you are inside the building. It faces a courtyard and is very quiet.The owners, Susan and Warren, live in the building and are available to answer any questions you may have. The apartment is close to 1, B and C trains, making it easy to get just about anywhere in Manhattan. The location is great, a block and 1/2 from Central Park, the Museum of Natural History, and a walk across the park away from the museums on the Museum Mile. Lots of nice places to eat and shop for food. The small kitchen is perfect for preparing simple meals. And the owners get you started with some coffee, milk and juice and other basic staples. We would definitely recommend the Dutch Room to our friends and family, and are hoping to return ourselves. No need to look for a place to stay now that we have found the Dutch Room.

Wonderful stay in Upper West Side gem

My partner and I stayed in this apartment for 2 weeks and it exceeded our expectations!
> Quiet street in a very safe neighbourhood
> Very comfy bed
> Kitchenette (everything supplied, including organic green tea, paper towels and beer in the fridge!)
> Close to cafes, restaurants and supermarkets (Fairway is amazing and also sells organic produce)
> Short walk to reliable public transport - 79th St (1,2) and 81st St (A,B,C) subways and the cross town bus

From the moment of our first contact, Warren was friendly and prompt to answer all of my questions prior to the booking and was readily available during our stay. The booking process was quick and efficient and we organised a late check out without any fuss. A parcel arrived for me after we had departed and Warren and Susan organised for it to be forwarded to me in Australia, now that is service!

Thank you Warren and Susan for a wonderful stay in your apartment and we will be back someday. In the meantime, we will tell everyone we know where to stay in NYC!
