The Casal do Bispo estate is located in the Parque Nacional da Serra da Arrabida, 5 Km away from beautiful beaches and close to Vila Nogueira de Azeitao - a small historic town surrounded by the national park and well known for its vineyards and wine cellars open to the public. Arrabida beach is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, and boasts a natural bay with calm waters, ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The area is also famous for its food so it won't be difficult to find well priced local restaurants as well as top quality ones. Taste the delights of the region from the traditional cheese, deemed to be some of the best in the country, to the Torta de Azeitao, a much sought after local pastry, and the famous Moscatel wine, a sweet wine served as an aperitif. The local specialty is of course a great variety of fresh fish dishes.
As well as Lisbon, which is only 30km away, Azeitão, Setubal, Palmela and Sesimbra are easily reached.
The immense 60 hectare Casal do Bispo estate of woodland and landscaped gardens is home to a few high quality houses, two of which are on offer through Sol Domus. Total privacy is guaranteed given that the houses are quite distant from one another.
This luxurious self-catering villa is situated in the national park of Arrabida, established to protect the beautiful landscape and rich variety of wild life, including eagles, wildcats and badgers.
The surrounding mountains are the perfect place to go for a walk, and excursions can be organised with the local nature tour companies.
The villa is nearby to the small delightful historic town of Vila Nogueira de Azeitao, which is known for its vineyards and wine cellars; the town is a perfect place to try out the local cuisine and get shopping.
Sesimbra, a short drive away, is a quaint fishing town, famous for its castle, beach and beautiful sea front. Palmela has a towering very well preserved castle.
Setubal has excellent fish restaurants by the sea front and a ferry to the nearby resort of Troia. Boat trips are organized to watch the dolphins living in the Sado estuary.
The local white sandy beaches are as close as 5 Km and Arrabida beach is known to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal. With its calm waters, it's ideal for swimming and snorkeling.
The villa is heated in winter and the beautiful fireplace provides additional comfort and atmosphere.
Beaches
The villa is surrounded by many sandy beaches, all with different characteristics. The magnificent bay of Portinho de Arrabida, with its clear quiet waters, is ideal for watersports. Sesimbra, Caparica, Meco and Troia beaches are all easily accessible.

Quinta do Peru just 10 Kms from the villa, Tróia (10 kms and a ferry away) a difficult course but one of the most beautiful in Portugal, and Riba Golf (40 Kms away)
Gastronomy and wine tasting
The region of Azeitão is famed for its gastronomy, and even the local supermarket, Intermarché, has a mix of gourmet and standard products; the supermarket is about 3km from the villa. The local gastronomic festival is held from June to September. Whilst fresh grilled fish can be easily found all year round and is an inexpensive delight. Five formal wine routes have been devised in the Setubal peninsula by the ‘Rota de Vinhos’ association, combining wine tasting with sightseeing, arts and nature. The villa is ideally situated to take best advantage of these delights of the area - this is if you manage to leave it!
