This peaceful and extremely picturesque blissful Old Florida cottage genuinely reflects the halcyon days of the best the Florida Keys have offerred over many decades. Nestled in the trees and under the Palms that grace the water's edge of fabled Gulf side location with multimillion dollar estates on all sides. My 8 day stay allowed me to walk a couple of blocks to restaurants, shopping and marinas of quality on the water. The rolling tarpon and Manatees were 20 feet away in the canal each day while the guides glided silently past in the mornings picking up their anglers at the historic Lorelie where world class anglers hold sway during the season. After 25 years of visiting the Keys for up to 5 weeks a year this is the best place I have ever had the good fortune of occupying. I will be back.
We just stayed 2 weeks in this charming cottage and want to thank the friendly owners, Jackie and Tim, for renting to us. It is situated in an ideal location and is stocked with many extras we don't always find in rental properties such as paper products, toiletries, dish and laundry soap, etc. The cottage has retained a lot of the character of the period in which it was built (1940's) but has bee upgraded to include a modern kitchen, bathroom fixtures, ceiling fans and air conditioning. Everything we needed and enjoyed.
We fell in love with it; such a great property! Jackie and Tim were great hosts. I'm reluctant to give this review only because I want to keep it a secret.
I WANT TO THANK TIM AND JACKIE FOR THE BIT OF HEAVEN WE EXPERIENCED IN OUR STAY AT THE COTTAGE, YOU BOTH ARE THE ULTIMATE HOST. THE PROPERTY IS OUTSTANDING, VERY COMFORTABLE, AND CLEAN, AND WELL TAKEN CARE OF. WE HAD A BALL WITH TIM THE EVENING "WE WENT LOOKING FOR MY TARPON", TIM IS A VERY IMPRESSIVE CAPTIN, AND I PLAN TO USE HIS GUIDE SERVICE AGAIN NEXT YEAR, NOT SURE I AM READY FOR HIS SPEAR FISHING BUT THE TARPON AND SHARK TRIPS ARE UNBELIVABLE. THIS WAS THE BEST STAY WE HAVE HAD IN THE KEYS AND FEEL LIKE WE HAVE MADE NEW FRIENDS WITH JACKIE AND TIM
My husband I rented this cozy little cottage for our honeymoon. It was beyond perfect. Right from the start Jackie was available to answer any of our questions and always offered up tips and advice. The house is great. Jackie has thought of everything! It is charming, but very spacious and of course conveniently located to anything you could possibly need. The canal is right out the back door and has plenty of water frontage. We spent many evenings on the dock watching the sunset and listening to the music play down the road at Lorelei's.
We also had the pleasure of taking a sunset/tarpon/shark fishing cruise with Jackie's husband Tim. Probably one of the best times we had there. Tim is very knowledgeable and fun to fish with. We caught a ton of sharks/kadyfish/catfish, and my husband even hooked a tarpon!
We can't recommend this rental enough/. It was very hard to leave at the end of our trip. We are already planning on heading back in the spring and hope that Jackie and Tim will open their house up to us again!
In a word... FAN-TAS-TIC!
What a perfect base for our 2wk fishing holiday.
Tim and Jackie were great hosts, welcoming us and making sure we had everything we needed.
Tim even gave us some handy fishing tips... will try the bait prep tip when back home... Cheers Tim!
The cottage is really spacious, clean and comfortable, retaining it's original character and charm.
The garden wildlife entertained us, with Neil the Iguana, Reggie the Raccoon, Woody Woodpecker (plus chicks!)... none of which we'll ever see in the wild back in England.
So far as our fishing went, we had a lifetime of bad luck rolled into our 2wks.
Think of everything that could go wrong... we had it... and more.
Redemption we thought during our last 5mins on the water when we hooked up on big tarpon, safely hanging on during the first few jumps, hearts pounding on board, was this FINALLY our time and reward for NEVER NEVER NEVER giving up (Winston Churchill 1945).
Was it? Nope. Mr Tarpon's next leap was to freedom and becomes tarpon #17 we have hooked up and lost during our 2 stays in Islamorada...
"The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope".
Tim and Jackie's cottage was perfect for our recovery and therapy!
We thank you so much for everything, and can totally recommend the cottage for anyone wanting comfort, space, tradition and proximity to everything that makes this place so very special.
Cheers for now... Hope to be back.
