|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This lake home is located in the W Meadowbrook area on the MN side of Big Stone Lake. It features a 30' glassed in porch, 3 sleeping areas, stone fireplace and 2 additional guest cottages. It has been redone and designed with an eye toward cottage style. Hand painted Scandinavian art by Gold Medalist Rosemaller Karen Jensen is featured throughout.
Walk up to the french doors and see all the way through to the water. A rosemalled staircase, and striking wood interiors (incl bullnose) make for an inviting place for family gatherings. Shaker style kitchen cabinets and a claw foot tub in the main bathroom lend a vintage feel.
The open floor plan conveys a sense of ease and sophistication and the character of this home is emphasized by the quality and style of furnishings.
An outdoor bathhouse/bathroom provides a whimsical spot to shower after swimming.
So if you are looking for a great place for your whole family to come and make memories, share a meal, take a nap or just sit and enjoy the breeze in the porch, this may be the getaway for you.
Enjoyed our family celebration weekend at the lake so much! Plenty of room for extended family, while not being on top of each other. Creek and lakeshore beach, volleyball, swimming, fishing, scrabble, campfire, outdoor shower/bathroom (perfect for after swimming), kayaking, local farm produce (Lismore Farms is well worth the trip), golf and a local swimming pool that is full of small town fun. We'll be back, for sure!!!
What a beautiful home and setting—just as pictured and more! Our stay was brief, but early morning coffee at the end of the dock and feeling the sun's warmth was beyond description. A place I’d love to be every morning! I brought my book along, but was too captured by the beauty of the place, the cozy accommodations, the wildlife, and the many changing panoramas of the lake to read it! The serenity of the place is “just what the doctor ordered” if you are looking for beauty, peace and quiet and great accomodations.
We did an overnight at this cabin and had a fabulous time. What an ideal spot for locals! So close, and a great place to get away from the normal demands of life and relax in a peaceful setting. Plenty of room to spread out and more than one area to gather when you want to be together. It is so nice to have it ready to go when we arrive. The rosemaling (Norwegian decorative painting) throughout the cabin is absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in the Big Stone area.
Nice get away for a women's retreat! Upon arrival the cabin was warmed up for us and in perfect order. They have lots of places to sleep so we each got our own bed. The room upstairs was so spacious and the bunk beds were awesome. It has two full bathrooms which made it so nice especially having one of them upstairs. They have a nice new large stainless stove which made baking easy. There was a wonderful view of the lake from the sun room, we did not go outside but the beach looks great. They have a nice little sitting area which made it cozy for all of us visit and hang out. They have everything you need for a wonderful stay. So glad we got to stay here would recommend this place to anyone!!
I drove up with my girlfriend and kiddos for a get-away-from-it-all weekend. Such a nice and easy drive from the Twin Cities. WOW...What a beautiful place upon walking in, and all throughout! The kids loved their own bathroom, beds and space upstairs, and I loved waking up to the most beautiful view of the lake from my room. My GF enjoyed the quiet and comfort of the master bedroom. I personally loved the rosemaling details throughout, as my mom used to do rosemaling herself. The cottage was clean and had more than enough space to cook, share meals on the huge table overlooking the lake, play board games at night, morning coffee and breakfast, and sprawling out to read and relax. We arrived the first week of October while the Art Meander was going on. Such talented local artists, great people, fun town to explore! I cannot wait to come back in the summer when I can use the outdoor shower, lay by the beautiful beach, play in the water and spend more than a weekend in this sweet home. Next time I will bring all of my kids and for a longer stay. Much thanks to the owners for providing such a lovely, clean, peaceful and relaxing adventure.
With roots in Ortonville, we knew we wanted to find a place big enough to accommodate four families with grown children and our 85-year-old father, and this place fit the bill perfectly! Sixteen of us ages 17-85 were perfectly content during our one week stay. We were comfortably cozy with the sleeping arrangements, and had ample space for meals and daytime activities. The owner was fantastic to work with! Six cousins ages 17-27 from Hawaii, Florida, Connecticut, and Colorado had the perfect young adult space in the loft to reunite and spend quality time of their own together. It was like they had never been apart! The porch, beachfront, and the living room inside with a fireplace -- all made great gathering places with many local visitors stopping by to visit at this beautiful lakefront property. A bonus was the outdoor shower -- it was everyone's favorite!
This cabin is definitely not the cleanest. The quote from the owner was that we left it cleaner than it was when we came. One of us woke up swollen from dust mites and/or cat hair. One of us woke up with tons of spider bits. The owner showed up to clean things out of the refrigerator the second day we were there. We were originally told we could bring 17 people and then it changed to 13 and we were charged more for the extra (after being told we wouldn’t be.) The internet says it’s pet friendly but we were told no pets. The internet says there is a Kuerig coffeemaker, but there isn’t. Recommendation: Get the stuff in writing before you go here because the owners change the amount owed as time goes on! My parents ended up paying $500 more than the original quote.
