YELLOW SUN VILLA
If you really want some time away from the hustle and bustle then come on down and stay for a while. Recharge. Connect with the lovely deep, blue sea. YELLOW SUN VILLA is a place of peaceful beauty...there is no need to go or do anything if this is your desire.
But those blue waves do look inviting, don't they?
Walk to our beautiful beach, set yourself down on the white sand with a glass of wine at sunset or take a swim in the warm, turquoise waters.
Maybe you would like to take a morning hike up the road behind the house to the top of Mt. Eagle. No one will be on that road but you. Look for hidden flowers, tropicall plants you have never met before, and glimpses of that turquoise water below. Birds follow you in flight as you walk. It is just you, the mountain, and the sea. Not many other places like this...so private yet so very accessible. Come and enjoy.
Now all of this quiet beauty is inspiring and might be all that you want and need. Right? But maybe you are thinking about venturing out a little further? Well, worry not because just down the North Shore Rd. (walk or drive) sits the coolest place and it is called Cane Bay Beach. A real hidden gem of a destination without crowds and lines, where you can feel comfortable hanging out by yourself or meet up with some interesting characters! The curve of a white, sandy beach invites you to lounge, swim, snorkle, scuba, and kayak. The infamous 'WALL' is a 13,000 foot drop about 300 feet offshore. For all of you divers this is a great destination. Hal and Suzanne of Cane Bay Dive Shop are located across from the beach and will set you up...first timers too. Kayaks are available for rent also as is snorkle gear.
Calvin, the owner of Sprat Net, a little bar/restaurant right on Cane Bay Beach will be happy to chat with you about the island but he always keeps his eye on his son, little Calvin, who dives into the surf after school. Calvin has all of those crazy rum drinks and also grills burgers for you right there on the beach.
Across the road is EAT@ Cane Bay, a wonderful restaurant with food shots, local fish, eclectic specials and a wonderful wine list, as well as some very creative libations. Beware! Bartenders at EAT mix some potent island drinks! EAT has a weekly sunday brunch with great, local reggae music.
Down the road a bit further, is the place of 'sunset shot' fame, a little beach hangout and pizza place called Off The Wall.Everything is out in the open. picnic tables sit in the sand, and the bar is a haven for the lucky ones who left the snow and winds and now call St. Croix home.Listen in on some tall tales as there are a few salty sailors and divers still around. What does Off the Wall celebrate EVERY DAY? The beautiful sunset, off course. Dianna and Craig offer a free, rum sunset shot every afternoon at sunset for EVERYONE in the house. Lots of music played here too.
Drive down the beach and in the next few miles you will have some more wonderful choices for dinner. The Waves, Above the Cliff, Sylvie's, and Rowdy Joes...from mexican to sushi with great music in many of these venues!
Of course there is so much more to experience on St Croix...the West End, the East End and all of their great beaches and dining experiences, the historical towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted, forts, museums, shopping, the botanical gardens, the rain forest, beer drinking pigs, Mamawanna( a special island drink made by Norma at the Domino Club), and a lot of very cool Crucian people.
But I do have to tell you...YELLOW SUN VILLA is the perfect place to begin and end all of your island days.
Come, relax, and enjoy.
Over six years ago, amidst the lush undergrowth right above Cane Bay,a little white dog was born. His mother and siblings were rescued by the local animal shelter but this little one decided to make a go of it on his own. When we, the Carr family, purchased our beautiful property in 2006, we would spot this little dog every now and then. No one ever saw him close-up...but he was watching.
As the building of YELLOW SUN VILLA got underway, there were more sightings of this dog. Workers left bits of their sandwiches for him but he would never, never come near. He was like a wild, little fox.
The construction of YELLOW SUN VILLA continued. Our family would gather there at sunset and watch the sun disappear into the sea. The little white dog kept us company from a distance. After the pool site was excavated we noticed that he kept his watch atop the little, mountain of remaining dirt. He left his warmth.
When the house was completed in 2008 and the Carr family settled in, so did this little dog. Somehow our paths crossed and our lives intertwined. We call him Destiny.
Destiny continues to reside on the YELLOW SUN VILLA estate. He still keeps his distance (has never accepted a pet on the head) but he is an integral part of the place. We feed him and he LOVES to lead a trek up the side of the mountain-even to the very top! When he hears the word 'walk' he responds in leaps and yips of delight. He remains a proud tour guide and welcoming announcer of all new guests visiting our beautiful, YELLOW SUN VILLA estate.
We fell in love with this piece of property the moment we set our eyes on it. A wild, mountain retreat, we could envision building a very unique home of our own on. And we did...Yellow Sun Villa!
Our home is solar powered. We are not completely off the grid but we make enough power to run most of electrical needs and still have enough to sell back to our local Water and Power Authority.
This is one of the most beautiful views of the surrounding hillsides, beaches and sea that you might ever encounter. It is situated within a gated community so there is no traffic and just 2 houses below...nothing to hamper the view. We can sit out on the deck and watch the sea and sky forever.
Yellow Sun Villa is on the beautiful North Shore of St Croix situated on the side of Mount Eagle (with unbelievable views), a short walk or drive to Cane Bay Beach and a variety of beach bars and restaurants. Scuba and snorkling instruction and rentals are right at Cane Bay Beach. If you have your own equipment you can also walk to the secluded beach at the bottom of our private and gated road.
You can also hike up to the top of Mount Eagle to find a breath-taking view of the entire island and check out wild, tropical plants and birds along the way. A one of a kind photo opportunity.
The North Shore Road is great for your morning walk or run along the beaches of the Caribbean Sea with possible glimpses of dolphin, whales ( in season) and a multitude of sea birds!
There is a wonderful botanical garden on the island which is built into the ruins of an old Danish estate. There are great tours of the Whim Museum- an old, Danish Great House and plantation, and the Danish towns of Christiansted and Frederiksted with their historical beauty and charm (including forts, churches, residences, and government buildings). Take a scenic drive or tour through the rain forest amidst lovely tropical trees and plants to visit the Domino Club where you can visit with the beer drinking(non alcoholic!) pigs! There are also 2 Caribbean rum factories with informative and 'tasteful' tours to while away an afternoon!
Of course the beaches on St Croix are beautiful and numerous, ranging from peaceful white sand and warm blue waters to ones with beach bars/restaurants, great local music, food, white sand and turquoise waters! Some beaches like Rainbow Beach on the West End have water as still as glass while others like Cane Bay have that transparent, turquoise water so great for snorkling and scuba diving off of the Wall. There is also horseback riding on Cane Bay...take your horse for a sunset ride down the beach.
LOTS of great restaurants and bars all over the island. Find your own favorite or let us help you!
Of course we are available for questions before your trip and our concierge Wendy can help with anything once you are on island.
