The Atascadero neighborhood is one of the safest in San Miguel. This complex lends itself to active living. San Miguel is a UNESCO World Heritage City and touted 'Number One City in the World' by Conde Nast and the New York Times. Theaters for film, jazz, classical, Latin, music fests and performances, classes in sculpting, painting, pottery, stained glass abound, Hot springs are a short ride out of town. Horse back riding nearby. There are numerous language schools and private tutors.
There is a bi-lingual library with a gourmet restaurant and theater. There are house tours, walking tours, out-of-town tours. Most people walk to the Center, but there are buses and taxis 1 block away, and Taxis are about $2.50 all over Centro Historico. (Buses are 5 pesos and taxis are 25 pesos.)

Retired from non-profit and City Manager analyst since 2006; moved to San Miguel, bought the condo and live part time between here and California. My health and vigor improved greatly since moving to San Miguel.
The complex itself is safe and relatively quiet since we're near the center of town, yet somewhat back and up from it. The neighbors are amiable and considerate. The workers are all trusted and very helpful. As a single woman, I feel completely safe here.
Close to the jardin, (centro) and on one of the most beautiful streets in the city; near the botanical gardens and Balcones, the (balconies) or upper hills of San Miguel. Close to great restaurants, music, chamber music, bakeries, shopping, coffee shops, yoga, pilates, hiking trails, quad bikes, films, theaters, etc. There's a lot to do in SMA, whatever suits your taste.
