The house is a two and a half story stone Victorian built in 1882 located a few houses from Keuka Lake and a block from the center of the village. The house was built by stone masons brought from Italy to help construct the Pleasant Valley champagne cellars in 1882. During the early years; workers from Curtiss Aircraft building the WW1 Jenny engine roomed there. The plant operated 24/7 and the workers worked 8 on and 8 off. So the beds were rented out for 8 hours at a time. Outside of the house looks pretty much the same as when it was built.

The property is owned by Bob and Millie DeSeyn. Bob is a retired engineer and surveyor and Millie is a retired teacher. Their children are grown with families of their own giving them 7 grandchildren to spoil. After retiring from a local utility Millie and Bob worked in Kuwait for five years, Bob as a defense contractor and Millie as a teacher. Bob is active in the local community serving two years as the village mayor.

Hammondsport has wonderful restaurants, shops, wineries, golfing, the Glenn Curtiss history, horses, and hiking. Add to it this house --- once you have seen it you will no why we chose this as the place to be. Stone houses are special. The quality of the interior is outstanding -- I feel we do not own this house, we are just taking care of it until the next owner gets here!

We first came to Keuka Lake in the late 70's as cottage owners. We enjoyed living on the lake but think the village has all it's benefits plus the life and amenities of a small village. We walk to the post office, grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants, dentist, church, and village square for entertainment. It's a great place to live and a near perfect place to visit.

VERY PLEASANT - GREAT LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
This was a great place to stay for a relaxing weekend! The owners are wonderful, the rental property was very nice - 2 bedrooms (one of them quite large), a sitting/TV room, kitchen, bathroom, front porch (and a large backyard). It is 1 1/2 blocks from the lake and we took a lot of walks. The town has plenty of stores, a grocery store, a few restaurants, and a bar all within walking distance. There are activities nearby (driving distance) such as breweries, wineries, and parks. I would definitely stay here again!

HAPPY VISIT

  • 5 of 5
We met friends form Cleveland and spent the weekend here wine tasting at Keuka Lake. The upstairs apartment was beautiful, homey, comfortable and extremely well equipped. Millie and Bob were lovely hosts. The location was perfect! My second visit to The Finger Lakes and Keuka Lake and The Stone Victorian are a must see. Thank you so much Bob and Millie!!!

Owner's Response: What a nice review! Thank you so much. We look forward to your visiting again. The winters here are mild and the views are spectacular! The skiing at Bristol Mountain is terrific and the wineries are open year round and the Bistro and other fine restaurants are open as well.

VERY NICE BUT ASK SOME QUESTIONS FIRST

  • 3 of 5
The Garden Suite was an odd mix of extreme comfort and annoyances. The outdoor patio is great, the bedroom, bed and tv are first rate and extremely comfortable. However if you intend to warm up or cook simple foods, ask some questions about the Garden Suite. The freezer in the refrigerator didn't work so we had to ask the owners (who live on the first floor) for ice every day.. There was no micro-wave (they bought one while we were there), but there was no pyrex type dish to use in there. There were two small stove top pans when we arrived, and upon our request they did let us use some of their stove-top pans and then acquired more for the suite. There was an oven, but still no cooking utensil that could go into an oven. So forget about heating up left over pizza or miicro-waving some soup. They were annoyed we wanted to use the kitchen remarking "our guests don't cook", but I was annoyed it was described as a fully equipped kitchen. Despite our mutual annoyances, the owners are nice and in their own way accommodating. I think they are used to people who come it, go biking or winery touring, eat at a restaurant and go home. If that describes you, you'll love this place. If you are like us, that is people who travel for weeks at a time who are more likely warm up food in the kitchen, scramble eggs and that sort of thing, be sure to ask some questions.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your suggestions Gail. I think the new microwave and pots and will make the Garden Suite more user friendly.

WONDERFUL APARTMENT

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved the rose suite, it was even better in person than the pictures. It was perfect for our family of four. We loved the in town location, 1 block off the square and 1 block from the lake, we could walk to many restaurants and shops. The lake is so picturesque and the view of the rolling hills from the pier is beautiful. We visited a couple wineries on the West side of the lake that had wonderful views of the lake and some good wine as well. We would have liked to spend more time enjoying the comforts of the stone victorian, like the beautiful back yard and the front porch but we were very busy with family near by on the east side of the lake. We would love to stay there again sometime and would highly recommend the rose suite to anyone.
