Our home is surrounded by towering evergreens set back from the road on 3 acres. It is quiet without another house in sight but plenty of room for you to stretch out, relax and enjoy beautiful Maine.
While there are lots of trees, there is also yard in both the front & back of the house. The front yard has 2 raised beds for you to plant (if you like) and a swing set for the kids.
The home has 3 bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a fully equipped kitchen. Washer and dryer are located in the half bath off the tiled mud-room on the main level. The living room, dining room, kitchen, one of the bedrooms and a full bath share the first floor. The second level has the other 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. All of the bedrooms, the living & dining rooms have hardwood floors.
We have a gas grill for you to use during your stay. There is a single kayak and dinghy at the house; and for winter fun there are a couple of plastic sleds and 2 wooden kick-sleds.
SEASONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Summer: Swimming, boating, fishing on Embden Pond across the street. Less than a 5 minutes' walk to a sandy beach on the pond-great swimming for kids with no big drop-offs. Berry picking at Sites Farm in Athens-40 min drive. White water rafting on the Kennebec River. Mtn biking, hiking, golfing.
Fall: Scenic drives to take in fall foliage. Hiking on Appalachian Trail and to the Maine Huts. Apple picking, North Star Orchards is one of our favorites with wagon rides on Saturdays & Sundays. Sugarloaf Mtn has their Homecoming the first weekend in October with free lift rides!
Winter: Downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing, and ice skating can all be done at Sugarloaf Mtn-35 miles away. Snowmobile trail is adjacent to property. Sledding, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing in yard and neighboring woods; xc skiing and snowshoeing on the Appalachian Trail. Ice skating, kick-sledding ice fishing on Embden pond.
Spring: Visit local sugar bushes-Maine Maple Sunday is in March. Sugarloaf Marathon is in May.
Renters who plan to stay multiple months are preferred and the rate structure reflects this. We do not allow pets. We will have the home professionally cleaned twice per month.
