CASA MARIPOSA - CENTRAL TO EVERYTHING AND SOLAR POWERED!

Monterey House Rental Photos and Description

2+BR / 2.5 BA Walk to Asilomar Beach, Lovers Point, Aquarium, Cannery Row

This immaculate Spanish Colonial home is centrally located in the sunniest part of Pacific Grove, near Washington Park and the Monarch butterfly sanctuary.

Our home boasts many green attributes: It has a state-of-the-art solar system installed on the roof which powers most of the home electrical needs. It also has a sophisticated rain-water catchment system which allows us to conserve drinking water by using rainwater for the gardens. South-facing windows capture the sun and we have energy efficient lighting throughout.

We live in a nice quiet neighborhood central to everything on the Peninsula and only a short walk to Lovers Point, Asilomar Beach, the Butterfly Sanctuary, and Point Pinos Lighhouse. Two bedrooms (one queen and one king bed) plus sleep sofa and a roll-away bed in family room. Sleeps up to 6 people comfortably. Two complete baths on main level, plus half bath in upstairs master bedroom.

Bright and sunny, our home is immaculate and newly remodeled. It has all the amenities - WiFi, DVD, cable with large sceen TV, dishwasher, washer/dryer, granite counters, hardwood floors. Private courtyard with new gas grill. Off-street parking. Large kitchen fully outfitted with granite counters, full-size fridge, large dishwasher, blender, coffee maker, microwave, glass-top range, flatware and dishes for 8+ persons. We have a large, bright living room with french doors that open to the courtyard. There is a separate downstairs family room and entertainment center with new large flat screen TV.

The main floor consists of the large living room, large kitchen, guest bedroom and two full baths, one of which has a whirlpool bathtub. The other has a shower. Upstairs is master bedroom with king bed and half bath. We have a two-person hot tub on the back deck that you may opt to use for an extra charge.

Casa Mariposa is located right in the middle of the tip of Monterey Peninsula, equidistant from Asilomar Beach and Lovers Point. Walk or bike to the aquarium, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf, Spanish Bay, the Monarch Sanctuary, Pt. Pinos Lighthouse, golf courses, art galleries, etc, etc.

17-mile drive is only 3 blocks away. Follow its legendary route along some of the most scenic shorline on the coast, winding through Pebble Beach and ending up in Carmel where you have some of the best shopping in California as well as the highest concentration of art galleries and boutiques in the west.

Casa Mariposa is the home of Julie Martinez and Jon Kramer, globe-trotting adventurers with natural history backgrounds and a passion for geology and all living things. Julie is a natural history illustrator and art instructor. Jon is a geological engineer and solar energy developer. Together they author adventure guidebooks. You will see some of Julie’s art on these walls and their joint adventure guidebooks on the shelves.

Jon Kramer purchased this house in 2011

In the 1990s Jon lived in Monterey in a small apartment uphill from Cannery Row. Julie would occasionally fly in from Minneapolis to visit him. They fell love with eachother and the area. Together they would spend all their time exploring the incredible natural worlds of Monterey Bay and Big Sur. They dreamed of owning a home here one day and were finally able to pull it off.

We call our home Casa Mariposa – literally “Butterfly House” in Spanish. It is located only a few blocks from the famous Monarch butterfly sanctuary of Pacific Grove. During the Monarch season (October – March) you will see many of these magnificent delicate creatures take advantage of the butterfly-friendly flowers in and around our home. You can walk or bike to all of the best aspects on the Penninsula or retreat to the private courtyard. Casa Mariposa is centrally located in a quiet neighborhood. It sits atop the hill near Washington Park in the sunniest part of Pacific Grove.

Good bargain

This place was great. Only thing I'd say is that sleeping 6 adults would not be super comfortable. For my husband and I and our four kids, however, it was fine. The king bed was very comfy. Neighbors were nice. Good bargain!

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy the comforts of home at your Casa Mariposa.
Our family converged on Monterey for the weekend and we had a wonderful time with Friday fun and card playing in the kitchen, to a sleepover with our granddaughter and crafts in the family room!
All had a great time and we were so centrally located in Pacific Grove.
The home had all the amenities we looked for and more.
We will definitely look for another opportunity to come back!

Great location for a family get away!

We spent 2 nights at Casa Mariposa and lived out stay. The accomodations were comfortable and we loved the proximity to the ocean and the aquarium. The kitchen was well stocked and big enough for family dinners. We took advantage of the cooking space and mostly ate in. I loved the affordable cleaning fees. The Tuesday afternoon farmers market in Monterey was a blast, definitely do not miss it. We had our 18 mo old with us and the upstairs master bedroom was significantly colder than the rest of the house. It would be great to have a space heater available for upstairs. Otherwise, it was a great stay. We would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyed Casa Mariposa Very much

What a great place to stay while exploring Monterey and the surrounding area. The home was very comfortable and the owner very easy to communicate with. Really enjoyed staying here and would come back another time. The kitchen allowed us to have some of our own meals with fresh California produce. The bedrooms were comfortable. The only thing you may want to know is that the washing machine has a small capacity and the settings are for a long wash cycle - so if you agreed to do the laundry (towels, sheets etc) start early. Highly recommend this lovely home in Pacific Grove. We enjoyed walking around in the neighborhood. It is a short way to the beach and my husband enjoyed running from the house to the beach. We loved the aquarium and took a whale watching trip and saw 6 humpback whales. Lots to do on Cannery Row - all accessible from this house.

Nice House. Good location.

The Casa Mariposa is a beautifully remodeled and maintained house. It had the number of bedrooms that we required. It had adequate sitting areas for all of us.

The improvements that we suggest would be a more comfortable bed in the family room. Also, that same convertible bed was uncomfortable even for sitting and watching TV.

The other thing is that people should be forewarned that the washer and dryer are very small. And each one requires an hour per load. It took us four hours to wash and dry the sheets and towels. We really appreciated having the option to do our own cleaning instead of paying the cleaning fee.

Other than those two things, we were very pleased with the house and its location.
