Situated in the hills of Western Crete, our home is a unique stone house of 215 sq.m. renovated by us but retaining many original features. Ideal for honeymooners, romantics and those who want a peaceful getaway from it all holiday. Watch the sunset from the spacious roof terrace and marvel at the stunning views to the hills and the sea. With patios on 3 sides you can seek sun or shade and there is nearly always a breeze to offer respite from the never ending sun. Refresh in the 48 sq.m. pool and in the evening prepare your own Greek dishes on the stone barbecue. Relax under the stars watching the lights of the villages below. The house is surrounded by many acres of olive groves and the land belonging to the house is 10,000 sq.m. offering total privacy.

Whilst the house offers total privacy, it is not isolated, the nearest village of Voukolies is just 5 mins away by car where you will find numerous cafenions, 2 tavernas, bank post office, chemist bakery and food stores. For major food shopping there are numerous supermarkets along the coast road, including big stores Lidl, Inka and Carrefour. The nearest beaches are at Tavronitis, about 20 mins by car. They are both sand and pebble and from here you can access the beaches all along the coast, visit the beautiful beaches of Falassarna, Paleochora and Elafonisi, all within an hours driving. The beautiful venetian city of Chania is only 30 mins away with its attractive port, shops and eateries. For the children there are water parks, go carting and many other attractions and if you are feeling energetic walk the famous Samaria Gorge. Pop's Hideaway is ideally situated for exploring the west of Crete. Whatever you require we are sure it can be found nearby.

Additional information about rental rates

  • 2010 prices are per week for 1 to 2 persons in UK Pounds. Additional adults are charged at £100 each per week. We do offer a discount of £50 per week for children up to 16 years old. There is also a discount of £50 for bookings of 2 weeks or more.
  • Any bookings overlapping rental periods will be charged according to the periods in which they fall. Part weeks will be charged on a pro-rata basis.
  • If our unique property is of interest to you please email and we will provide any further information you require by email or telephone. All utilities, maid/pool service are included. To reserve the house please email and we will send you a booking form which can be completed and emailed back to us. The receipt of a non-refundable deposit of 25% confirms the booking with the balance payable 8 weeks before departure. Cancellations less than 8 weeks before departure will attract cancellation charges, full terms are include on the booking form.

Notes: The house is our home where we live during the closed season and is therefore well equipped with glasses, crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Gas oven/hob, American style fridge/freezer with filtered cold water, ice cube dispenser and mini bar. All normal kitchenware is provided. Very large lounge with open fireplace, chandelier, 2 three-seater leather settees, TV, DVD player, music system and antique desk with captain's chair. We have a large selection of DVDs, CDs and books for your entertainment. The dining room has a antique table with 6 leather seater chairs, another chandelier and antique monk's bench. All linen is included and changed every 4/5 days, the house is cleaned at the same time. Beach/pool towels are not provided so please bring your own.

Notes on Accommodation: The house has no air conditioning as it is not needed. The metre thick stone walls and wooden shutters keep the house cool during the hot weather. Also the position of the property ensures that there are no mosquitoes. Items like bin bags, kitchen towel, washing machine tabs, toilet rolls and soap are provided. A freezer box and non-breakable crockery are provided for the odd occasion you can tear yourselves away from the house. Pop's is non smoking but ashtrays are provided for outdoor use. We always strive to improve the facilities so some things may change between booking and arrival. If there is anything you think may be useful (or we have overlooked) please let us know. Because of the nature of the property it is felt that it is not suitable for children under 11 years old. Changeover day is normally Tuesday but we are flexible if possible. The house is ready for you by 3pm and we would ask that you depart by 11am although times may be flexible depending on bookings.

Outside Area: Well maintained mature garden full of colour with many varieties of flowers and fruit trees. Get up in the morning and pick fresh figs for breakfast, sample the fruit of the plum, apple, cherry and peach trees. Try the almonds and artichokes, lemons and herbs. Within the private grounds is a large east facing patio overlooking the pool and barbecue area. There is a wooden table with parasol and seating for 7/8 people. Chairs are also provided on the bedroom patio and the lounge patio with views down the valley to the sea. Sun loungers with parasol are arranged around the pool and barbecue areas, a pool shower is also included. Access to the roof terrace is by a winding staircase giving stunning views of the surrounding area. Our land contains over 200 olive trees from which we produce our own oil, a bottle of which will be provided for you. Civilization however is not far away with shops and beaches nearby.

Welcome Pack: A welcome pack of basic provisions is provided for your arrival, however should you wish we are only too happy to do additional shopping for you. There are a wide range of tavernas in the surrounding area including Italian, Chinese and Indian. We always recommend following the locals, better food, cheaper prices and less crowded. Perfect for a relaxing getaway

Pop's Hideaway is perfect for a relaxing getaway. The pool and garden are lovely and as the description says there are terraces all round the house so you can always find a sunny spot.

The house is well equipped and very clean.

The track from the main road to the house is very rough but we managed it fine in our rental fiat panda.

You need to drive to shops and restaurants and for a choice of restaurants you really have to go to the coast but if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing getaway, it is ideal.

There are lots of good day trips to various beaches and towns from the house and there is lots of information provided on these trips.
