Fattoria I Ricci Agriresort, an ancient 17th century estate situated on the lush Tuscan hills set against the backdrop of the spectacular Apennines, is a mere 35 Km from Florence and easily reached by way of quaint country roads or the fascinating age old railway line.
The Agriresort is surrounded by a luxuriant park of age old trees, which includes rare exemplars, in the middle of which we find a swimming pool with a breath-taking view and furnished with comfortable and elegant sun-beds in wrought iron.
An idyllic place surrounded by olive groves and vineyards that yield extra virgin olive oil and wine can be enjoyed at the restaurant.
The complex is composed of the Villa Padronale, the family quarters, and just behind that the old Fattoria (Farmhouse building) used for hospitality, Fattoria has been renovated preserving the original structures and combining them with modern comforts: WiFi, LCD TV, heating, hairdryer, organic olive oil complimentary toiletries and mini bar. The interior has been treated in detail using ancient furniture from the Villa Padronale and other selected furniture in flea markets, great passion of owner Caterina.
At Fattoria ground floor are located two huge Halls, le Tinaie (the fermenting room), where breakfast and dinners are served.
Climbing the sand stone steps you reach the first floor of the farm: where once there were the barns, there are now three apartments and a suite.
In the park, under cool of Lebanon cedars and redwoods, is located a half-timbered Cottage built in 1919 and since then called 'Casina'; during the work of renovation was replaced the wooden floor with old oak vats and made it an ideal place to spend a romantic and relaxing holiday.
The Agriresort is run in a deliberately family: the attention, the smile and hospitality are the starting point for a memorable vacation.
The Agriresort has its own restaurant serving typical Tuscan cuisine; dinners are served two times a week: in summer on the terrace overlooking the valley, in the charming wine cellar (Tinaia) when the weather is less forgiving.
In the restaurant you can find a careful selection of Mugello and Tuscany wines. To discover the flavors of the past, ensuring freshness and authenticity, the products and the raw materials used in the kitchen are mostly local, the vegetables come from our farm or crops a few miles from the property, eggs are the henhouse and the meat is from Mugello area.
The best way to start the day is to have a rich and greedy breakfast, or at least, is what we think at our Agriresort.
Homemade cakes with fresh ingredients, simple, genuine, croissants, fresh fruit, cereals of various types, jams home made with the fruit of the area, our honey, yogurt, meats and cheeses, eggs for those who want to, coffee, cappuccino , and a selection of teas and infusions ...
Breakfast is served in the fermentation room (Tinaia) from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
At Fattoria I Ricci you can dine on reservation, you can enjoy our dishes, traditional recipes of Mugello and Tuscan, prepared with raw materials always fresh and genuine selected by Catherine using the garden of the farm and small local producers, who respect the 'love for their territory thus creating a cuisine with ancient flavours. All accompanied by excellent Tuscan wine.

At 'I Ricci' I have spent all my life, when I went to university I lived in Florence.. My grandfather Renato bought the property in the 60s, when he was a young man he had worked in the mill that still located in the Farm.
I and my husband Riccardo we decided to live here and to grow our daughter Emma in the middle of nature teaching her the love and respect for animals.
It 'a pleasure for us to have guests and get to know people who come worldwide; in the morning I like to recommend to our guests, map in hand, where to spend the day and let them know the beautiful and unspoiled places of our land: Mugello area.
Riccardo my husband wine lover and good food helps me in welcoming guests.
My mom Gabriella takes care of the flowers and her lemons almost considered as 'children' ..not be alarmed if you find her to speak with one of them!!
For all of us it is a privilege and an enrichment to host you!
P.S. Recently became part of our 'team' Rosy, a dachshund enterprising and friendly and I am convinced also steal your heart.
Tuscany is extraordinarily varied. There are the long blue hills of the Maremma in the south, flowing down to the plains and the sea; or the strange faded clays of the Crete Senesi, punctuated dramatically by dark stands of cypress and umbrella pine. Then there is the Mugello, a place, in December, of clear, glowing skies periodically brushed by veils of mist, above a landscape of dramatic, rolling Tuscan lushness.
An hour's drive from Florence, in Rostolena, a hamlet in the hills above Vicchio, Caterina and Riccardo run a beautiful old manorial farmhouse and a set of well-appointed apartments. They are absolutely charming and ever-ready with advice about everything from parking in Florence to local food. We stayed in Leccino and revelled in the silence and pure air, the open fireplace (unlimited wood is available free), well-appointed kitchen (Christmas dinner, Italian-style, was a cinch, and there are many good local supermarkets), and superb local restaurants such as Caldetino. There's plenty of walking and wildlife (the area is alive with buzzards and owls); easy drives to intriguing smaller towns such as Pistoia, or a bit further to Lucca, the towns of Chianti, Siena and of course the rarefied delights of Florence; even the possibility of visiting the birthplace of Giotto nearby, although this attribution is, like so much about this genius, a disputed matter. Further afield, you're within driving distance of Bologna or even Venice, and can easily hop on the Italo train to Rome at Florence's Stazione Santa Maria Novella (an hour and 20 minutes and 40 euros each way, although for that price you must buy tickets online in advance...and note that this drops you at Stazione Tiburtina in Rome, not Termini).
In short, you're in the midst of wonders here; and can make as busy or as relaxed a time of it as you wish. Note that there's a swimming pool and breakfast available outside the winter months.
Leccino is perfect for a small family, with extra sleep room available via a sofabed.
