This elegant two-story cottage is located in a secluded garden with a view of redwood trees and Humboldt Bay, yet it is just a short walk to downtown Arcata. It is light and airy inside, with a peaceful and serene hot tub (no jets,) under the trees outside, a sunny private patio, and an upstairs balcony.
The studio has hardwood floors, Oriental carpets, custom cabinets, and original artwork by nationally known artists. There is a built-in queen-size bed in an alcove downstairs, and the upstairs loft has two twin beds.
Arcata is a small university town located between Humboldt Bay and the Arcata Redwood Forest. The spectacular rocky seacoasts, beaches, and forests of Redwood National Park are just to the north. The beautiful clear rivers of the Six Rivers National Forest are both north and south.
Our studio is five blocks west of Redwood Park, three blocks south of Humboldt State University, and six blocks from the Arcata Plaza.
Redwood forests, concerts, restaurants, and movies are all a pleasant walk away. The university brings major entertainment acts for reasonable prices and no parking problems, from Ray Charles to the Tokyo String Quartet.
Arcata has many community events, from the Oyster Festival, to bird watching gatherings, and a lively Saturday Farmer's Market. The Marsh Ponds are world famous for bird watching, and the Community Forest has miles of wild and remote hiking trails.
We also have 2 studios, a 2 bedroom Craftsman Home, and a 4 bedroom Victorian available. Contact us for more information.
This tasteful home was designed by Ann, and was her first vacation rental. Over the years she expanded to a home on Maui, and now has 5 vacation rentals in Arcata.
Her daughters, Elly and Mary, have helped her design, furnish, decorate and manage her vacation homes. When not working on their vacation homes, they enjoy traveling, hiking, backpacking, and rafting.
Sharing their vacation homes has been a rewarding experience, with interesting and lively guests from all over the world.
Ann purchased this cottage in 1993
Arcata is a lively university town, with Humboldt State bringing through great music and theater shows. There are coffee shops with poetry readings and local music, Brio Bakery with fresh baked goodies on plaza, and it's close to Redwood National Park with beautiful hiking trails through the redwoods. If you take scenic highway 299 east, you can enjoy the sunshine on the Trinity River, and whitewater rafting.
This home has beautiful hardwood floors and custom hardwood cabinets. The kitchen is fully stocked for your family to cook good food, with fresh produce from the Farmer's market, or grocery store only 4 blocks away. It's only 7 blocks from the plaza, but is tucked back from the street and feels private and secluded. You can enjoy a hot tub in the back yard, surrounded by flowers.
Thank you so much for the lovely accommodations and for the ambiance of nature.

Hope to see you next summer!
This home offers a wonderful blend of flavors..The convenience of being "close to town", and the quiet of being in a little secluded cottage oasis. My daughter and I enjoyed a week in this delightful, clean, charming, cottage! Every detail was thoughtful and creative, including the landscape, the cozy nooks for conversation, the great loft for yoga, the little deck for writing...
A seasoned caterer, I appreciated the equipped kitchen, the artisan platters and vases.. the stone coasters...
I guess I would most commend the attention to detail. There were plenty of towels, dishes, books, access to local information, hi speed internet, WD/ Dryer.
If my review helps in future rentals for you... Good. For this was truly a wonderful experience, and the owner was so easy to work with... thank you!
Inspired by the property... I will be painting and sketching images of my journey to California in the coming months. Lood for images of the cottage here.:)
Thanks for a relaxing, private, respite in the Redwoods!

This place is perfection; it's close enough to walk everywhere, from the campus to downtown, while being extremely private and quiet, thanks to all the trees and plants surrounding the property. The cottage is bright and airy and totally charming; there is even a little window seat in the loft to curl up and read. The loft, accessible by ladder, is a big hit with our daughter; it feels like being in a tree house. We've enjoyed watching the birds in the yard (lots of hummers) and sitting outside in the evenings.
The owner has thought of everything to make our stay comfortable, from a basket of slippers by the door to reading glasses next to the phone book.
This little place just right for a couple or small family. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here (SO much better than a hotel room!) and will definitely stay here next time we're in Arcata.
This place is great. It is bright, quiet and in a good location. Walk to town, to campus and to the park.
The hot tub is lovely and sort of nestled back in the garden which makes it more private. Fantastic kitchen with everything you need. I wish we would have had some friends to stay up in the loft. I would think it would be a great spot for kiddos too as it is like a secret hideaway with its own deck.
Anne is a sweet person to communicate with and super helpful. After having poor communication and lack of follow through with another vacation property owner in town, this was a nice, easy and pleasant experience.
We will be back and will recommend to friends.
Tip: if you are one to sleep in, bring an eye mask. The sleeping nook gets a lot of sun in the a.m. which is great for early risers like me and not so great for those like my partner that enjoy sleeping in on weekends.
Well, where should I start? Do NOT miss out on this place! A paradise!! Very clean, very comfortable, bigger than I had expected. Just amazing. The property owner was monumental in making our stay complete. If you are a cyclist or a hiker, do not pass this place up. Her knowledge of the trails and connections to local cyclists are the icing on this already delicious cake! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This review is probably late-coming but I've stayed at the studio twice so far and will be returning again. Its so comfy cozy and now I make sure I plan an extra day while traveling through Humboldt just to stay there. Love waking up, going down to the co-op and picking up some yummy food and coffee and just relaxing, soaking in the tub, or enjoying the gorgeous wisteria from the backyard. I love the bed tucked into the windows (though if you don't like early sunlight, bring some blinders!), The place is clean and comfy as ever and tastefully decorated. The cabinetry in the kitchen is beautiful as well. I can't wait to go back.
My husband and I just spent an incredibly relaxing and enjoyable few days in this lovely studio right in the heart of Arcata. We didn’t move our car once in three days and were able to explore all the areas we wanted to. What a treat to enjoy this unique rental - truly exquisite! The attention to detail is amazing. The interior is tastefully decorated, with incredible design that allows this small home to feel extremely spacious. Every unique attribute was thoughtful and well executed – with not one thing missing – everything we could ever need was right on hand! The landscaping and exterior spaces were also impeccable – it was amazing how secluded it felt even though it was right in the middle of a neighborhood. Waking up to the sun streaming through the many windows was definitely a highlight; along with feeling right at home in this accurately described “Casually Elegant and Cozy Home by Redwoods.” Ann was a pleasure to work with and the property was even better than we expected! We definitely look forward to visiting the area again and staying here.
