The entrance side of the cabin has a deck with views of the lake.

The boathouse has a second story deck overlooking the water with a panoramic open water view. It is a great place to relax at sun set, sitting on the Adirondack chairs with a cool drink in hand. Evenings can be spent around the lakeside campfire circle, listening to the loons.

There is a private dock for your boat to get going anytime with ease. Bring your fishing gear, water-skis, wakeboards, tubes. We have two free kayaks and a canoe for you to explore the 365 islands and wildlife.

About Marci Carisch

When David and I first married we had a dream of owning a cabin on Lake Vermilion. I grew up canoeing in the Boundary Waters National Park and Vermilion borders this park. In 1995 we bought island property on Vermilion and have raised our family enjoying the summers on Lake Vermilion.

The time we spend in this magical place have created memories that have bonded us together in a way that would not have happened in Minneapolis. The beauty of this place never ceases to take my breath away. My muscles relax the minute we see the water.

In 2012 we bought the cutest vintage 1950's cabin on the mainland and named it Caroline's Cottage. It has been lovingly restored with hand-craftmandhsip.

We want to share the Vermilion experience with you! We want you to feel like it is your own retreat and to offer you a place to create memories you will not forget, year after year.

David, Marci, Lauren, Ellen and Caroline

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5
Enjoyed the view, the walks, the water and canoe. Took some side trips on windy days. Found the cabin clean and comfortable. Walked up road 24 numerous times and saw deer and ate a lot of ice cream at Moosebirds. Had a good dinner at the Landing and a good fish fry at the Crescent. Cooked several meals over the fire pit at the cabin and enjoyed s'mores over the open fie also. Thank you for a relaxing time.

Great family retreat cabin!

  • 5 of 5
We had a great visit at Caroline's Cottage! We actually live on a lake in central Minnesota, but lakes in Northern Minnesota are such a treat for us---less busy, cleaner, & more wildlife. We loved being only steps away from the water. Our 10 and 13 year old daughters enjoyed how handy the beach and dock were. We all used the canoe and kayaks almost daily and loved having the bonfires right by the lake. We brought our own boat and tied it to the dock with no problems, leaving our trailer at a neighboring parking lot. When searching for a vacation cabin, I was specifically drawn to the newly remodeled kitchen and bathroom pictured on the web site, and was pleased with how clean it all was. There was plenty of space for our 4 person family. When I did have questions and concerns, Marci was prompt and thorough with her responses and addressed all our needs. We spent most of our time at the cabin or on the lake fishing, tubing, and skiing. The other boaters were extremely friendly, with almost all of the boaters waving and smiling at us. We did find some time to visit the Soudan Mine (a must see!), the North American Bear Center (excellent), ate the famous pizza at The Vermilion Club (try the Bamboozler!), and boated to the Wolf Bay (good food, great atmosphere). I would highly recommend this for a family or couple who is looking for some relaxation, fun, and time outdoors.

Great vacation

  • 5 of 5
Four adults and one large dog rented Caroline's Cottage in July. We had a great week, despite a day and a half power outage due to a storm. The cottage has been nicely restored and was very comfortable. The establishment was very clean and fit our vacation bill perfectly. The only thing renters should be aware of is that there is not a full-sized oven for baking, but you can back smaller sized dishes in an electric oven. The extension cord from the boathouse for charging the batteries in our boat was a welcome edition. The trailer parking worked out great at the resort down the road. Thanks Marci!

So relaxing…..

Our stay was very relaxing. The cabin is completely refurbished and was very beautiful inside. We enjoyed cooking, BBQing, kayaking, and swimming. Sunrises and sunsets were a highlight. We had a terrific time.

August Vacation 2013

  • 5 of 5
We stayed two weeks and had a wonderful time. The cabin is clean, updated and has everything you need. There are two docks and the beach is small with sandy bottom. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. Big lake with many destinations and places to visit. Enjoyed the loons and eagles. There are some quirky connections with the Wi-Fi and the cable TV. Low water pressure and we were glad there was a clean outhouse since the septic had issues. Beautiful setting. Comfortable and cozy cabin. Owners were friendly, helpful and available. We will recommend this cottage and return.

Owner's Response: Jerry,
It was great to meet you and I am glad you enjoyed your stay. Since you left we fixed the water pressure (realized the filter needed changing. We will now stay on top of that!), the electrician fixed the electrical issue with the wifi and we had the septic guy out. Thank you for bringing those issues to our attention, this is our first full summer and we are happy to address any inconveniences that may arise. Hope to see you next year!

Peaceful & Private

Peaceful & Private

Lovely cabin - cozy & comfortable with all the necessary amenities. Very private yet at a perfect location for a quick jaunt for an afternoon ice cream cone (done daily). Would recommend it for anyone who would like to “get away from it all”. Owners are very accommodating. The only thing that could have made it better was cooperation from mother nature (weather).
