Like Costa Rica before invasion

I remember watching Endless Summer 2 and seeing Pat O'Connel and Wingnut surf perfect waves in what was then a pristine and barely developed Costa Rica. That's what made me want to go. Over the years those that have been have all seen that it doesn't hold the same charm and there certainly aren't those days anymore as Bruce Brown said "Perfect waves, just you and your buddies, and not a parking meter for 150 miles" in Playa Tamarindo.
At the risk of contributing to the commercial success and exploitation of this region I do feel compelled to thank Clint at the Pirate Coast Surf House for truly hosting what was one of the most liberating surf trips ever in recent memory. Although it was summer and it wasn't as big as the winter we still had some of the most memorable days surfing and simply enjoying the location.
Morning sessions cruising out after amazing breakfasts in Taghazout at Le Spot (eggs, bacon, grilled tomatoes, bread, homemade jully/butter, cheese, yogurt, and banana for 3 dollars!!!) to 3-5 ft boilers, banana point, and anchors lent itself to afternoon trips to near perfect Tamri about 30 minutes away then back to the house to fuel up before sunset sessions out in front of the house where a few other people might be out but everybody is still cool with each other. A balanced flow to a place that still maintains its innocent vibe.
Sunset was the best not only because you have this giant african sun lighting your last turns in the water but you knew when you got back to the house that the cook there, Mustafa, was preparing some delicious dinner (seafood tagine was the bombbbb!!!!!) that filled the house with scents that made you feel like you were home again and waiting for Mom's home cooking. Nothing fancy, just good honest home cooked meals that were the perfect way to end a perfect day. After dinner we usually retire in the salon with views overlooking the mountains cascading to the sea where Mustafa would brew up some rocket fuel (aka Mint Tea) and we'd settle in, watch a movie, catch up on email, or laugh about all the random interesting stuff of the day. Then usually ff to bed or go out to Agadir for a night out at the Casinos or bars.
Clint took us on a couple side trips as well to the old port city of essaouira where Jimmy Hendrix used to go (we actually stayed at the same hotel, can't remember the name) and into the mountains at the waterfall spot. So fun.
I'm running out of space. Pirate Coast House ruless!!!!
