Photos and Description of the Juneau vacation cabin rental

Fireweed House provides lodging for travelers who prefer complete privacy, with the convenience of an 8-minute drive to the downtown Juneau historic district. In this secluded location, there are no other visible neighboring houses.

Located on a 4-acre parcel on Douglas Island--just a short drive across the bridge to Juneau--Fireweed House offers an all-cedar Guest House--with vaulted ceilings, 2 king bedrooms, Jacuzzi bath, laundry, wood burning stove, luxurious linens, a 900-square foot wrap-around deck with gas BBQ, marble-tile and slate floors, Italian tile counter tops, plus many features including a new 5-burner gas range, Wi-Fi, and Cable TV.

Although the Guest House comfortably sleeps 4, a futon and full-size sofa can extend sleeping for an additional 1-2 children, if needed, in the Main Room.

For couples traveling together, additional sleeping and privacy may be added with Fireweed Apartment which accommodates 2 adults plus a child with a queen pillow-top bed, a single pull-out bed, another private Jacuzzi bath, a second kitchen, and a second gas BBQ. The additional space also has access to a separate laundry.

Choose Fireweed House and you will not be disappointed--whether you are on vacation, looking for a business retreat, searching for a stopover during relocation, or a short-term rental--look to a new experience over a hotel and you will be pleasantly surprised with this beautiful location!!

About Jeffrey and Danith Watts

Jeff and Danith met in Alaska about 30 years ago and decided to share the joy and the beauty of their homes in the Tongass National Forest with other travelers. They created and established the Fireweed House and Guest House complex and have continued to improve the standard of excellence for visitor lodging to Juneau over the last 18 years.

Jeffrey and Danith Watts purchased this cabin in 1995
Why Jeffrey and Danith Watts chose Juneau

This unique property is comprised of three separate homes on a four-acre parcel--there are no other such properties available to visitors in the Juneau area.

The Guest House is totally secluded but is connected by a short wetlands path to the Main House where the owners reside to provide on-sight management and travel advice if desired. In developing the property, the pristine Alaskan wilderness and the magnificent views have been maintained --yet all in close proximity to the many Juneau travel adventures, shopping, and dining.

And with the ability to add Fireweed Apartment, larger groups traveling together can stay at the same complex but enjoy their own independent private, plush accommodations.

What makes this cabin unique

As we developed Fireweed House, we wanted to maintain the incredible warmth and the special touches of the Guest House, the lovely view and the ambiance of the Apartment, and the details that would convey to guests just how much we care about the success of each and every traveler's stay in Juneau.

Juneau is a beautiful state capital with many contrasts--the icy landscapes of winter, the refreshing rain in our forever-green landscape, the crisp blue summer skies with billowy white clouds, the long daylight of summer (18+ hours in June), and the short daylight of winter (about 6 1/2 in December).

With the 1,500 square mile Juneau Icefield at our backdoor, we always encourage summer guests to book a flightseeing trip or a helicopter ride to get the birds-eye view of this magnificent glacial landscape. Another absolute 'must' for our visitors is the Tracy Arm Fjord cruise--a day-long adventure that your hosts will be glad to set up for you and your family--if you want to watch for whales, seals, bears, mountain goats and eagles and see huge icebergs up close, this is the day-long trip for you!

With time and this location as your home base, consider adding a day-long trip to Skagway to experience the White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad with an excursion to the Summit; a day at Admiralty Island National Monument to the Brown Bear Sanctuary--guided and unguided brown bear viewing is best in July and August; a zipline adventure; enjoy the Tram ride up Mount Roberts for beautiful hiking or just for lunch; a day-long king salmon or halibut fishing charter; a walking tour of the Juneau historic district; sea kayaking; the Mendenhall Glacier--one of the few glaciers in the world to which you can drive; and days and days of incredible hiking and exploring around the Juneau area!

Christmas getaway

When we arrived we were greeted by a welcoming smile and extra help to transport our bags. We followed a soft -lit path to our Christmas getaway. It comfortably housed, 6 and a baby. The amenities were plenty and so were the memories we took back home. We loved our stay!

Happy Family

5 of 5
Submitted: December 8, 2012 Stayed: November 2012
This rental exceeded all my expectations. It was a true winter wonderland. The house was cozy and gave the feel of being in a cabin in the middle of the woods. It was truly an oasis in the trees. The twinkling lights on the path leading to the door made for a magical first impression, and after a day of shopping in crowds it was nice to feel like you were disappearing into the woods. Soaking in the jacuzzi tub, while the fire crackled, was exactly what I needed after battling the holiday crowds. Definitely the best place I've stayed in Juneau, ever. Will make it the only place I stay from now on. Perfect for family with full Kitchen and Washer and Dryer, and being pet friendly it made even the family pets feel at home. Usually after traveling you can't wait to get home; However with this rental I hated to leave our little sanctuary in the woods. Thanks for a memorable Relaxing stay, just what this family needed. Eventhough we are from Alaska, this rental made us feel part of the true Alaska Wilderness. Deeer tracks in the snow right off the porch and friendly little squirrels running along the porch railing. This was just an incredibly special place to stay. It made the whole trip a great experience. I found my family just wanting to hang out instead of going in to town. This would be a great place to get away from it all and reconnect with family. I would highly recommend it to anyone.
