This beautifully restored and decorated historic property is in the heart of historic Midway, Kentucky. You’ll be in the center of it all – only a few minutes from Lexington, Kentucky Horse Park, the Bourbon Trail and Frankfort. Midway is becoming a center for bicycling through the horse country.
This home features two large bedrooms both with queen size beds, two full bathrooms, family room with 47” flat screen TV, WiFi, and an outdoor deck. The furnished kitchen has a full-size refrigerator, 4-burner stove with oven, dishwasher, microwave, large sink, and plenty of storage. Full size washer and dryer. The home is kept completely pet free, has hypoallergenic air filtration, and air conditioning. For the extra quests there is a high quality queen sized air mattress with frame that is easily set up in minutes in the living room/tv room.
My wife and I purchased this property in 1982 as we wanted something different and we wanted a challenge. The property was originally the R. W. Lacefield Lumber Company and was started in 1902. We have been working for the past 30 years to make the old warehouse behind the Carriage House our home. I hope to live long enough to see it completed as I am doing most of the work myself. We are the caretakers of the property and we are here to insure your stay is all you expected and more. We want you to tell your friends about Midway and we want you to come back as often as possible.
The Carriage House was started in1902 and was the office/retail space for the lumber company. 30 feet behind the Carriage House is the old warehouse that my wife and I have been working on for over 30 years to make it into our home. Two buildings behind the warehouse had fallen in due to neglect and were hauled to the dump. There is a 1400 sq foot shed on the back of the property.
Midway is unique in that it does not have any franchise businesses at all. No Fast Food restaurants. You are just minutes from downtown Versailles, Frankfort, Georgetown, and Lexington KY. Midway is just off Interstate 64 which gives you fast access to Louisville and Cincinatti as well.
The Carriage House, built in 1902, is on the Kentucky Historical Buildings Charter. It is approximately 1100 square feet and has undergone a full restoration over the past three years. Shy of tearing the building down and coming up from the foundation it is all new. It has been completely re-wired with an up to date electrical service. It has a new HVAC System with humidity control as well as electrostatic filtration. The kitchen is completely new as is all the plumbing throughout the structure. There is a nice deck off the back of the house overlooking the vaccant lot nextdoor and shaded by an old River Birch and a Pine Tree. It is comfortable in the evenings even in the summer.
Midway is a small town more than a city as everything is in walking distance no matter where you are in the town. Railroad St, the main street of Midway, is full of nice restaurants, antique shops, leather and clothing stores. The town is in the heart of the Thoroughbred Farms in central KY. It is an ideal area for cycling as there are a number of competition events annually that start and finish in Midway. Midway is also on the KY Bourbon Trail and several of the great distilleries are just minutes from Midway and the tours are worth taking.
If you are a smoker then you will probably not like the Carriage House as it is a Totally Smoke Free Facility. No smoking of any substance will take place in or around the Carriage House. Having retired as a volunteer Fireman for Woodford County I have a fear and great respect for fire. Candles and cigarettes have caused more than one home in Midway to burn down. I don't want this to happen to my Carriage House. That and the fact that I don't want anyone to be bothered by the odor of old smoke and the reactions some people have to this. I have taken great measures to insure that the air in the Carriage House is as clean as possible. I have a commercial ORECK Filter running 24/7 to clean the air.
Midway, KY is surrounded by the most beautiful thoroughbred horse farms in the world. They are all in easy driving or cycling distance. In addition there are a number of fine restaurants; casual to fine dining. All within walking distance. On the same block and just around the corner is a fine message therapist if total relaxation is part of your trip. (by appointment only)
