Key Colony Beach, a town right off the center of Marathon, is its own small island with a very quaint atmosphere. For your convienence there is a boat ramp located in Key Colony It is also a beautiful area that is very well maintained. Driving through you will see what a beautiful island it is and why so many people choose to stay in Key Colony Beach. It features a Sunset Park with an incredible view and a small pier. You may see families taking pictures during sunset or couples taking a romantic stroll. There are also great restaurants all over the island. Of course, being the Florida Keys, most of them are famous for their seafood. Key Colony has everything from casual outdoor dining such as Sparky's Landing to nicer indoor restaurants such as Key Colony Inn. You can sit and eat or go to one of the islands many bars.
I have been vacationing in Key Colony Beach since the late 1950’s. After trying many Caribbean Islands and many other keys I returned to Key Colony and it was like coming home. The grass is not always greener when you have already found utopia. This house purchase in July of 2012 was not just for a vacation rental, but for our future retirement home, where we will spend what is left of our “Golden Years”. Even though we currently live on a barrier island on the Carolina Coast we eagerly await the day we can move to the land of aqua waters.
Why this property? Location, location, location in a planned community with the highest quality of environment. You just couldn’t meet a nicer bunch of folks. This home is located towards the end of the canal with only two single family homes past it. This means there is little traffic, larger lots and more open spaces. Also immediate boat access to Vaca Cut. Across the canal you are looking at a boat slip and beautiful yard instead of more duplexes which makes the backyard much more private and the canal seem much larger. Over the years we have rented many duplexes that have ended up with nicknames such as: the bat cave, the concrete bunker and the dump. When you walk in the front door of this home which is light & airy what comes to mind is “WOW, we’re home”.
Two very important features made this property unique to us and are why we chose it over the many homes we looked at over the years.
First: this home is more spacious than other three bedroom rental houses. It is airy and has some high ceilings. The large kitchen has lots of storage including a pantry closet and from the sink you look out over sparkling water and palm trees. The living room is large with plenty of seating. The indoor laundry is convenient, especially if laundry day is a rain day. There is a big walk in closet in the master and even a garage for fishing and dive gear.
Second: There is shade. You can always get plenty of sun in The Keys but finding shade can be difficult. The back deck is under roof. There are two ceiling fans and palm trees. You can sit outside in your private, tropical oasis and be cool and comfortable.
Key Colony Beach is a safe and friendly environment to vacation. It is located on the Ocean with easy access to both the Ocean and Bay through Vaca Cut. Walking and biking trails are available as well as many restaurants within walking distance. The Cabana Club a private Beach and Pool club are located on Key Colony Beach.
