The Glendale House
If you are interested in seclusion,
dark skies, endless scenic views with
the glorious Mount Jefferson as a
backdrop, birdsongs, deer and
turkey, you have found your vacation
The Glendale House, situated on
33 acres at the end of a dirt road, is
ideal for folks wanting a break from
the urban pace. Just 82 miles from
downtown Winston-Salem, 1/4th
mile from the New River, 2 miles
from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the area
offers hiking, biking, golf,
tubing, canoeing, fishing, good
restaurants, a great arts district in
West Jefferson, and peace and quiet. Ben Long Fresco's are located in Glendale Springs, 3 miles from the cabin.
For the winter guest, weather permitting, tobogganing, sledding on the property, Appalachian Ski Mountain 32 miles via the Parkway.
The cozy 1,100 square foot
cabin is in a most beautiful place. The
cabin has maple floors and cabinets,
two bedrooms upstairs with hand crafted
beds, sunroom drawing in the
outside, one bathroom, no television,
no dishwasher, a washer and dryer,
picnic table and gas grill on the deck,
fire place in the back yard, a birdfilled
front yard, high speed wireless
internet connection and the upstairs has air conditioning. The cabin is
fully furnished and very inviting.
This lovely cabin is overlooking the New River Valley. As the fog raises in the morning and your coffee is brewing, you will see seven bends in this historic river valley and hear the rapids below. Your view is of the undistribued Blue Ridge Mountains with very few homes in the viewshed across the river valley.
The cabin is fully furnished. It is decorated with originial art, handcrafted furniture, pottery and photography. The office has high speed internet, a fax/copier and desk. A stargazer haven.
Thank you! We had a great time and were sad to leave yesterday. Just the unplugged vacation we needed.
We were sold the second the cabin came into view from the road. It's a beautiful house in an idyllic setting, surrounded from all angles by mountains and sky. The house is comfortable and truly "fully-stocked" beyond any definition of a "vacation rental". Location is right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, and there are many short and easy hikes close by that still reward you with a view -- Mt. Jefferson Summit, and the Cascades Trail in Jeffress Park.
My husband and I have rented this cabin for several years, experiencing and enjoying it in every season. We simply cannot say enough about its fabulously-secluded location, its charm and coziness. We live in a contemporary condo in uptown Charlotte, so when we need to truly get away from it all and experience a totally different lifestyle, the Glendale House is our go-to rental - so much so that it feels like it's ours! We've discovered beautiful walks along the New River, our favorite restaurants and bars in West Jefferson, and always look forward to revisiting these and discovering new ones. We especially love the fact we can bring our dog, who positively loves leaving the city behind and experiencing a few days leash-free! The only tiny drawback is the lone bath is downstairs while the bedrooms are up. But seriously, who can't live with that for a few days?
This is the second year I stayed at the cabin. Of course it is a beautiful cabin with all the comforts of home. Beautifully decorated but the main attraction for me is the absolutely gorgeous view 360 degrees around the cabin. Everywhere you look outside the cabin you see glorious mountains. We had a nice picnic at the New River State Park beside the river, took a nice hike, then drove to Boone through the Blue Ridge Parkway to see more mountains and stopped for pictures at all the overlooks. In Boone we shopped and had a great lunch. The next day we headed for West Jefferson City a few miles away and enjoyed all the shopping, art galleries and the restaurant where we ate. Every night we built a huge bonfire in the backyard with wood supplied in the shed and roasted marshmellows and made S'mores drinking hot chocolate, of course. The owner is so helpful in giving directions, describing interesting places to visit and responding to any requests you may have. I will be back next year and every year after. Thanks for sharing your home Pat.
This is our second visit to Jefferson and Glendale House. Beautiful setting, clean and comfortable home, and responsive owner. Amazing views day and night, nice walk to the river from the property. Close to the parkway, Boone, Jefferson/W.Jefferson. Thanks for sharing.
We had a great 2 weeks! Wonderful cabin, beautiful view and very relaxing. Pat is a great host; there when we needed him and yet respected our privacy. Also a perfect place to let the dog run free.
What a wonderful place. Probably the best place we found on VRBO. The owners have thought of everything. Charming and comfortable, the cabin has everything you need for a great getaway. It was very hard to leave!
