Description of Condo
We purchased this condo in 2012 and are offering it for rent. Our beautifully redecorated one bedroom/one bath oceanfront condominium is at Maalaea Kai in beautiful Maalaea Maui. The entire condo is air conditioned! Our unit differs from most condominiums in Maui in that the building is on a cul-de-sac so there is little vehicular traffic. Also, unlike most condos, you can hear the ocean from the bedroom as well as the living room. Because we are a corner unit, our bedroom has windows on two walls and one of them faces the ocean! We are also unique in that our plush bed and bedding are of the highest quality we could buy. You will think you're staying at a 5 Star hotel!
Being a corner unit, there is a side window, in addition to the sliding glass door, that gives you more light and airflow. The living room has new carpeting, a sleeper sofa, which sleeps two, and a love seat. (Knowing that sleeper sofas aren't as comfortable as a regular bed, we have a pillow top to put on top of the mattress so its nice and comfy.) There is a dining table with four chairs. Our entertainment system includes a 40' flat screen TV, a DVD player, and a CD player. We have a large selection of movies on DVD. We have free wifi and free long distance to the U.S. mainland and Canada.
Our bedroom has new carpeting, new drapes, and a king-size bed (two extra-long twins connected together in a king-size frame so you won't feel your companion moving in the middle of the night). We are very particular about the bed we sleep in and our comfort is as important to us as it is to you. Our mattresses are Simmons Beautyrest Euro Plush Pillowtops. You will love them! The sheets are 600 thread count from the Hotel Collection and the four king pillows are 100% down. We bought the best pillows we could find! (We also have non-down pillows in case you are allergic.) The duvet is beautifully done by Calvin Klein. You will be in total comfort while falling asleep to the blissful sound of the ocean!
Our kitchen has a new stove/cook-top and is fully stocked with everything you could want, including beautiful Hawaiian china, wine glasses, a blender, a toaster, a microwave, an oven, a refrigerator, and all the pots and pans you would need.
The bathroom has a nice tub/shower combination. We put in a new mosaic tile floor and a beautiful new vanity and matching mirror.
Other Ammenities include:
*Floatation aids for children
*Two adult and two child snorkeling sets
*Iron and ironing board
We, Danny and Frederick, live in Snohomish WA and own a spa called The Gated Sanctuary, Centre for Healing. The spa specializes in therapeutic massage and hydrotherapy.
Danny lived on Maui in 1991 and has always wanted to return. We both share the same love and respect for Hawaii, its people and their culture. We have a special love for Maui in particular.
Living in the quiet countryside of Snohomish County in WA, we wanted to find a special place in Maui that was equally quiet and oceanfront. We looked all over South Maui and fell in love with Maalaea. Most condos in South Maui are off of busy streets and you can hear a lot of road noise from the bedrooms, which are typically off of the street. Maalaea is different in that the condominiums are all along a quiet cul-de-sac.
We also like Maalaea because, being in the 'valley' portion of Maui, it has a bit more wind than other parts. This keeps the area cooler than many other parts of the island.
The other wonderful thing about Maalaea is its location. It is literally minutes away from most anywhere you would want to go in Maui.
Owner purchased this condo in 2012
When we first walked on the property of Maalaea Kai we immediately noticed the attention to detail in how the grounds and the building are maintained. It's immaculate! Before buying this condo we looked at many, many properties all over Kihei and Maalaea. This one really stood out to us in that it's impeccably kept.
We also fell in love with the fact that the building is on a cul-de-sac so there is little vehicular traffic. Most condos are on busy streets so there is a lot of road noise. This isn't the case here.
And finally, we loved the fact that our unit has windows on two walls in the bedroom and one of them faces the ocean. It's rare to be able to hear the ocean from your bedroom. Most condos have the bedrooms facing the street so you hear a lot of road noise if you open the window. In our unit you hear the blissful sound of the ocean!
Thank you for a wonderful stay. We felt we were visiting with friends while they were away. The condo is so homey and not sterile.
The view is breathtaking with a most enjoyable breeze. The book, "Maui Revealed" was extremely helpful. Thank you!
PS Saltimboca, near the pier, (15 minute walk) is a lovely Italian restaurant for those who do not wish to cook on arrival...
Having been to Oahu 3 times but never to Maui, my wife and I decided to see if the rumors were true and give Maui a try for her upcoming birthday. We love snorkeling and after researching all the good places, wanted to rent a condo centrally located. Maalea really is right in the middle. Unfortunately my planning was a little behind schedule so the list of places that fit our time schedule was short. We're so happy to have found this place. Great location with a beautiful view of Maalea Bay. We were so thrilled to find everything exactly as described in the listing. This hasn't always been the case with our previous rental experience. We really loved the decorations and furnishings and yes, the bed is fantastic! Being from Alaska, I truly appreciated the addition of AC as I cannot sleep in a room that is too warm. My wife got up early every morning to watch the sun rise from the lanai and we really enjoyed drinking our morning coffee there. A really nice benefit to this location was the Maui Ocean Center just down the street which we visited several times (hint: get the passes online and you can get a week pass for the same as a day pass) The Maalea Harbor is just down the street too so any boating excursions are easy to do. And I shouldn't forget to mention the grounds of the condo complex are maintained very nicely. The tiki torches that are put out on the weekends were a really nice touch as well. So, if you're reading this and on the fence about a place to stay or even weather to visit Maui, you won't be disappointed with this condo, or Maui. We absolutely loved it all and definitely plan to come back.
Danni, thank you so much for everything. Your fast and helpful replies to all my emails made the whole process so easy. We hope to be back soon!
My Sweetie and I just loved the million dollar view;) It was just right for the price compared to your average 4 star hotel!!!! It's Worth every penny and romantic ;)) If you want Romantic this place is the right one for you;)) We will defently be back;)) love love it!!! Big Thank you to the owners for letting us rent this Place you will fill like home ;)) from California ,
We arrived on a Saturday and there was no problem retrieving the condo keys with the office being closed on the weekends. As we entered the condo we found it to be beautifully decorated and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and having access to the BBQ we were able to have great suppers on the patio. I recommend this condo as it is situated centrally which is great for all the sightseeing Maui has to offer. The only downfall we experienced was it was extremely windy t this location.
Condo was everyting advertized. We enjoyed the location and toured the whole Island. Bed and furniture was top quality. Only one TV, would have been nice to have another TV in bedroom. We loved the place and would rent it again.
We have just returned from a lovely week on Maui. We hated to leave! The condo was just perfect for our needs: lovely view, well furnished and in a great area for those who prefer to avoid the crowds and hoopla of the larger tourist resort areas. We thought the bed was incredibly comfortable. It made it so tempting to take naps and to sleep later than usual. For two people the size of the condo was just fine.
We bought online tickets to the nearby aquarium early in the week and that gave us the option of revisiting it as often as we wanted during the whole week. We returned several times laughing that it was like snorkeling without having to get wet. The restaurant at the aquarium made a lovely lunch spot too.
The long beach at the end of all the Maalaea condo buildings was a great walking beach.
We will definitely come back again. Thank you so much!
Had a wonderful stay inspite of the scavenger hunt upon arrival for toilet paper. There was barely a roll when we arrived and searched high and low before heading out to pick some up...after 3 stops finally located a small store who had to go into the back to get it since the shelves weren't stocked...we were afraid we arrived to an island shortage of tp..hahaha. The world was right again and we could commence vacation. Everything you read about the bed is absolutely correct...we are currently shopping to upgrade our home mattress set. We loved the location between Kehei and lahaina. We have family in Kehei and Wailea so it was short drive to their home. We had stopped at Costco upon our arrival to stock up on food but wish we would have known what was missing at the condo, after reading all the reviews about how stocked it was from prior guests we unfortunately didn't pick the right travel time since it was pretty bare bones...hahaha. It's now stocked up with soap, shampoo, sunscreen, aloe, aluminum foil, toilet paper, paper towels, coffee, filters, salt, laundry detergent, etc, We also left a Guide to Hana CD to use on a road trip, a Hawaiian music CD to listen to while dining on the lanai. Unfortunately we also left our souvenir t-shirts in the clothes hamper. That was a big bummer. The condo Is on our list to return to when coming back to Maui....Enjoy!!!
Centrally located, Maalaea is conveniently located and is literally minutes from Kihei, Wailea, Kahului, Wailuku, Lahaina, and Kaanapali.
We are just:
*8.5 miles (18 mins) from Kahului Airport;
*6 miles (15 mins) to Kihei;
*14 miles (25 mins) to Wailea;
*15 miles (23 mins) to Lahaina.
Maalaea Kai has a reef; there is no beach. But the longest walking beach in all of Hawaii (more than four miles!) is just four buildings down from our building so it's just literally steps away. You can walk along the ocean on the grass most of the way to get to the beach.
Fun in the Ocean/Activities:
Maalaea Harbor is a short walk and offers many exciting activities including:
*Snorkeling excursions of Molokini Island;
*Whale watching cruises during whale season;
Restaurants, Shops, & Miniature Golf:
Maalaea Harbor Village Shops is also a short walk and offers excellent restaurants a wonderful general store and latte cafe and shops. There is also a miniture golf course within a short walk.
The Maui Ocean Center:
The Maui Ocean Center in Maalaea provides an up close view of Hawaiian marine life without getting wet!
Pacific Whale Foundation:
Located in Maalaea, the Pacific Whale Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to saving the whales from extinction. They provide top quality cruises.
