About The WaveHouse:
Sparing no expense, The WaveHouse was completed in May ’09 after two years of meticulous construction. Luxurious in every detail, The Wave House is an expansive rancher of over 4000 sq ft and soaring 18-ft high ceilings. Five large bedrooms & four full baths. The Wave House was built with every modern amenity consistent with a North American Lifestyle. The Wave House is complete with three large living rooms & four Satellite TVs. All separately programmable in English or Spanish. There are two full-service kitchens. Air Conditioning is available in every room as well as ceiling fans, ensuring a cool atmosphere throughout the house.
A swim up tended pool bar can be stocked with your favorite cocktails (additional). The house even has a work desk & complimentary WiFi internet. Stock the kitchen & cook your meals or keep between session snacks on hand.
The community surrounding the Wave House, Playa Negra de Los Pargos, is like going back in a time machine. You get to experience life, as it was, before any real outside development & influence. The lands surrounding the Wave House are still ”virgin” & undisturbed. It is customary to see real cowboys, wild horses, cattle traffic jams, wild bull fights, wild monkeys, toucans & more. An experience that makes a stay at the Wave House unique.
Your experience here will last long after you visit. A cultural experience that is becoming rare, if not extinct. Yet, we are only about 1 hour drive from Liberia International Airport.

I went on the Costa Rica - Nica Surf tour and it was awesome. They took our group to a bunch of different surf breaks in Costa Rica and Nicaragua and the house we stayed in was amazing...swim up bar, super nice rooms, etc. Food was awesome, locals were friendly, and our guides were very nice. This was hands down the best Costa Rica Surf trip I have done. My friends and I go to Central America to surf every year at least once, and I’d say we all like Costa Rica best of all. The surfing in Costa Rica is really good, and the local people are really nice. Pura Vida.
First time in Costa rica and I can't wait to go back! My family and I went to this house the week of January 28, 2014. To confirm the trip Bob, responded quickly and clearly all our questions. When we arrived at the airport, there was the man for the taxi that was ready for us. Visited the villa, we were received like royalty. The food was very good !!!! Definitely the best I've ever had on a trip !!! All meals were excellent! The organization surf lessons was good. The beach is very close, beautiful, and safe. The villa was clean and even bigger than the pictures! We spent the new year with the village people, who are very nice and welcoming It was definitely the best week of my life! I recommend this site to everyone !!! Thank you again for everything www.realsurftrips.com. !!
My family was looking for a house rental to stay with all our party, and we always prefer Guanacaste no matter the long distance from San José (5 hours by car), but if you arrive by airplane to Liberia it would be a shorter drive by far.
This is my review as a local to all you visitors to my beautiful country.
1) Rural Costa Rica: you are in the middle of a small rural town with its soccer field, a few restaurants and unpaved streets (great condition 15 min to paved streets), you can walk to buy some basic groceries or to visit some restaurants, let me tell that I have some years of not enjoying my stay like this in a Guanacaste town.
2) Lot of Beaches: you are between 10 to 45 minutes by car from great beaches, some with a lot of tourists restaurants, shops and super markets. Some of the beaches are Avellanas, Junquillal, Playa Grande, Tamarindo (the most tourist and crowded), Flamingo (kind of white sand beach), Brasilito, Conchal (shell beach really different) Playa Grande, and as everything in CR all are unique
3) It's a gated community and 5 min walk (inside the property) to Playa Negra.
4) House: in great conditions, 5 rooms, 2 kitchens, high ceilings, lot of space.
5) Pool: The photos in their website don’t make it justice is more wide/big with some parts really depth.
6) Owner: what great person, we didn't meet him but he helped us with everything we need it.
7) Price: you can get more luxury house options but with really higher rates, in my opinion you have a great rate with a great house.
If you are looking to be in the middle of the party this is not the best option because you may need a car and drinking and driving it’s a bad decision, but if looking for a big house with a pool, at the Rural Costa Rica but with lot of beaches and restaurants close (some walkable) this is your perfect place.
This home is located in Rancho Playa Negra which is a small gated neighborhood with direct beach access. The house is well laid out and there was plenty of room for 9 adults. The pictures accurately depict the property, however, the layout of the house is much more spacious than we expected. My only disappointment was that the kitchen was not as well equipped as I would have liked - only 5 coffee cups, no glasses (but reasonable amount of plastic cups), and no bbq.
Bob was very good about answering all my questions and offering help with drivers and tours and chef. We eventually decided to rent our own car - we rented a Mitsubshi van and it was the hero of our vacation. She wasn't anything luxurious but she could make it up and down all the dirt roads and allowed us to explore the beaches north and south of Playa Negra. One day we lost water pressure but Bob came right away and when he couldn't fix it himself he had workers come to the house that evening and they got the water working again.
Grocery shopping was a little difficult as there isn't really any grocery stores in Playa Negra. We had to drive up to Tamarindo for a large selection of items and there is another smaller grocery store in Pariso.
Pizza at KonTiki is a must and if you are up for the drive, Marabelle has a beautiful beach and a great restaurant called the TikiHut.
Playa Negra is a sleepy beach town that offers a restful and friendly atmosphere.
This was my 3rd trip to Costa Rica and by far the best one yet. I live in Venice, California, and a guy who surfs at my local spot told me about Playa Negra and www.realsurftrips.com. I was apprehensive, as I have had mixed surf trips to Costa Rica on my own in the past. I did Bali about a year ago, and thought it couldn't get much better than that. I also have stayed in many subpar places in CR, and was worried this was going to be all fluff. I was wrong on both accounts.
When I landed at Liberia it was a little bit more than an hour drive to The Wave House. I had an all-nighter packing and an early flight, so when I arrived at the Wave House that night, I was exhausted. I met Bob (the guy who runs the place) and was pleasantly surprised by him. He greeted me with a smile, gave a me a quick tour of the house, and showed me my room. It was night already, and I was so tired so I basically went straight to bed without exploring.
The next morning, I woke to paradise. I walked out groggy-eyed and was greeted my the glint of the sun off the pool and blue jays flying through the yard. Bob was making breakfast for us, and handed me a fresh Costa-Rican coffee. The breeze was floating through the kitchen and living room, and everything smelled fresh and clean. I ate the best breakfast ever (Bob is an amazing cook...make sure you ask him for the Suave Special), and then grabbed my board and headed to the beach for an amazing surf session. I continued this pattern all week.
I stayed a total of 9 days at the Wave House. It has everything I would ever want. Fast internet. Sat TV (although I never used it), clean pool, washer dryer, clean bathrooms and bedrooms, and an overall warm, safe vibe. The house is a 2 minute walk from the beach, and hosts everything from a rocky beautiful surf wave, to a chill, sandy family beach. There also are amazing little walks around the neighborhood, and everything felt very safe in the area. The town was about a 10 minute walk, and had some great restaurants and little stores. Biking and ziplines are a close drive away.
The place is a chill vibe and feels like the right mix of creature comfort and still feeling "off the grid". Bob made the stay all the more enjoyable, and offered an incredible knowledge of the area and tips about everything from the food to the surf breaks. He truly made the realsurftrips.com experience jump from "excellent" to "unforgettable". Trust me and skip Tamarindo and head to The Wave House for genuine CR
Luxury accommodation, surfed 3 to 4 times a day, every day. House is large and spacious, bedrooms are private suites. A/C works great. Food is homemade and very good. Located along the beach at Playa Negra, this makes for a great getaway for anyone interested in exploring the Costa Rica Guanacaste Coast. Don't need to travel far, as Playa Negra is a world class surf break. Plenty of good surfboards to rent at the local surf shop. Nearby restaurants also have excellent food. Be sure to buy the lobster from the local fisherman.
