Idyllic slice of English History

  • 5 of 5
We actually stayed here over Christmas and New Year 2012/2013 - but I'd neglected to write a review on this site. We had a wonderful time in a truly extraordinary house that is hard to beat. We have rented many houses in terrific locations, but Blo Norton Hall is at the top of the list as a unique and wonderful experience. Entertaining family was a delight - with a great kitchen, luxurious bedrooms, and superb public areas (notably the grand and historic dining room). The grounds evoke all that is best of the East Anglian countryside, too. We will return when we visit Norfolk again, but in the mean time dwell on fond memories of this house.

Wonderful weekend away with friends

  • 4 of 5
We had a wonderful long weekend at the Virgina Barn, Blo' Norton. Set in the rolling countryside, it has 4 bedrooms (two double, one twin, one bunks) and a large kitchen/living area. The property is well maintained and clean. Our only negatives were the number of flies around and no wifi - having no signal made it difficult to plan local activities. Other than that a great weekend and would highly recommend.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. We are looking into wifi in the barns now that there is more demand for it, I would think this will be in place for next spring. Sorry about the flies, Virginia barn is on a farm and where there are cows there are flies, it has been particulary bad this year and we are always looking into ways to make things better and more comfortable for our guests. Hope to see you again.

Amazing and awesome!!!!!!

  • 5 of 5
Blo Norton Hall is an amazing house. 18 of us had a fantastic time celebrating a 60th birthday. Ages ranged from 21 to 70. We arrived in deep snow which made the grounds so picturesque. The snow cleared while we were there which then gave us a totally different experience. The bedrooms are fantastic, the lounges are huge and so welcoming with the great log fires. The kitchen is in a league of its own. Unbelievable!!!! We used a firm of caterers for one night who came in, cooked a three course meal, served us all and cleared everything away for the cost of only £16 per person. We all dressed in Tudor clothes for the fun of it as we feasted on this medieval banquet - excellent stuff. We also booked the local clay pigeon shooting man to come and spend the afternoon with us in the grounds where he taught us all to be dead-eyed dicks!! All together the weekend was fantastic made all the better by the beauty of this amazing house. Would recommend it whole-heartedly.

Easter week family get together

  • 5 of 5
Blo Norton Hall is a treasure! We had a very large family get together for Easter week, with people flying in from around the world. Blo Norton Hall was perfect for this. All the bedrooms are individual and interesting and nearly all have their own en suite bathrooms. The kitchen is incredible with two cookers, two dishwasher and more than enough space for the 19 of us. The dining room is spectacular with a huge, long dining table and beautiful paneled wall. The two sitting rooms had enormous log fire, which were needed as the weather was freezing, as does the dining room. Having so much space meant that we never felt on top of each other but when we did all want to be in the same room space was never an issue. We were greeted on arrival and shown around and nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel very welcome. I would highly recommend Blo Norton Hall to anyone who wants a memorable stay in a truly beautiful historic house.

A perfect weekend in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5
Blo Norton Hall is fantastic and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. We’ve hired large houses several times before and this one exceeded our expectations in every way. Dealing with Sue over the phone was a delight and the service she provided was friendly and efficient. The house and gardens are so beautiful and perfect for relaxing and having fun -which we did. Seventeen of us, ages ranging from 11 to 81, came together to celebrate my daughters 21st birthday. We were met by Karen who showed us round the house. This produced a series of ‘ooh’s and wow’s’ as we moved from the huge kitchen to the equally grand dining room, to the lounges and then from beautiful bedroom to beautiful bedroom with excellent facilities. The garden and grounds are the icing on the cake. The house easily accommodated 17 of us with room to spare. We catered for ourselves and found the kitchen to be extremely well equipped and roomy, more than enough for our needs. We had wonderful family dinners in the grand dining room. We also had great weather so made the most of the garden and grounds. All in all a perfect weekend in a perfect location. Thank you Sue, Alicia and Karen.

Fantastic time.

  • 5 of 5
This was the third fantastic few days we've spent at Blo. We've now been in February, November and June and every time was wonderful. Lovely gardens, roaring log fires, comfortable rooms and great cooking facilities - so we've cooked feasts. The experience is even better than the website suggests!

The Village itself is surrounded by quiet lanes, ideal for walking, cycling and painting and is close to Redgrave and Lopham Fen. Blo Norton Hall is the perfect choice for a relaxed stay in the East Anglian Countryside.

Blo Norton is situated close to the picturesque Norfolk and Suffolk Borders making it ideal to explore all that both counties have to offer.

Blo Norton lies on the River Little Ouse which separates Suffolk from Norfolk.

The Hall reputedly provided the setting for Virginia Wolf’s short story The Journal of Miss Joan Martyn. In the story the main character, Rosamund Merridew, is a historian researching England's land-tenure system
