We would like to invite you to recharge in our one of a kind 'Off Grid' Cabin. This one of a kind property is located at the end of Maloy's Landing Road in Beautiful Wacissa, FL only 30 minutes from FSU and the perfect weekend game place hideaway. This 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath cabin sleeps 8 comfortable in it's two bedrooms and huge loft. The cabin nestled on one of the beautiful springs that feed the Wacissa river surrounded by towering 80' White Oaks, pines and hundred year old Cypress trees. From the front porch you can view wildlife such as deer, raccoons, woodpeckers, blue herons, hummingbirds, cormorants and wild turkey. The cabin is constructed of 100+ year old river wood pulled from the Wacissa and it's tributaries. Some of the planks used in the walls are better than 20' wide, the handrail on the stairs to the loft is made from a civil war era bridge blank, and much of the structure has actual river wood trees from the foundation through the floor to the ceiling. The property is 'Off Grid' meaning there are no utilities coming in from the power company. We utilize solar panels, battery banks and a backup diesel generator to maintain power to the cabin 24/7. The cabin is equipped with central air, propane hot water and most of the other every day luxuries you would expect to find in a home that is 'On Grid'. So our invitation extends to anyone wanting to relax or even those wanting to celebrate a special occasion including FSU football games. You will be 1.5 miles from the closest house and 1 mile behind a locked gate so you can have the privacy to do whatever it is you wish to do. So come on out and experience true adventure in a one of a kind cabin.
This cabin was built by local residents Bradley Cooley Jr. and Sr. over the past few years as a place to get away.
Bradley Cooley purchased this cabin in 2010
You will not find a more unique piece of property in a more private or beautiful location.
We guarantee this will be the best and most relaxing place you've been in North Florida.
this was a great deal! my extended family stayed here for graduation weekend and had a great time. it is far from campus -- 35 to 40 minutes depending on traffic -- but it was really nice. the swimming hole is absolutely gorgeous, the grill was in great condition (we grilled every night) and the cabin was clean and very spacious. i love nature and it was so nice to spend the days with my family out in what felt like paradise, with nothing but trees and the river all around. we did not have time to go canoeing/kayaking but if we had stayed for a longer time we definitely would have.
the only things that went 'wrong':
1. there was a big spider in the cabin, killed it, no more unexpected wildlife sightings
2. the generator stopped working briefly one of the days we were staying here. we got in contact with the owner within an hour and within another hour the generator was fixed. all in all, this could have been a "worst case scenario" but was solved very quickly and efficiently. we weren't even uncomfortable from the lack of AC because we dipped our toes in the swimming hole, which is very cold, and it cooled us right off.
we also wish there had been more toilet paper in the cabin or dish soap, but it wasn't a big deal.
despite those little hiccups everything went great! my family were extremely impressed that i had managed to find such a nice vacation rental. the owner was also very nice and cordial whenever i communicated with her.
Took my family for a nice quiet get away this past weekend and this cabin exceeded our expectations. The cabin was clean and beautiful. It had a nice dock we were able to fish off of and actually caught our dinner one night. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice quiet get away not too far from town but feels like you are in your own private paradise. The owners were very accommodating and welcoming and were very respectful of our privacy.
This place is just horrible! It was the worst vacation ever. This is a list of what you will expect:
- The place is not clean at all !! Spider webs were everywhere (I hope there is a way I can post pictures in this review).
- There is a very strong smell in the cabin.
- Sleeping is hard when you see lizards walking around you!!! (had to kill two in one night).
-The Water is so filthy (we couldn't even wash our hands with) We had to buy bottled water from the store.
I have never had written a review before. but I think I have the obligation to warn anybody who wants to rent this cabin in the future.
Our stay at the Wacissa cabin the week of Christmas 2014 was a great way to relax and enjoy nature in a beautiful part of Florida. The cabin had everything we needed, was well furnished, and had plenty of space. We loved going out on the private dock and took advantage of the nearby kayak rentals. We located some awesome swimming holes while kayaking for when we return in warmer weather. The wildlife viewing on the river was spectacular. The location is far enough from developed areas that the night sky is great for stargazers. However, downtown Tallahassee is less than 30 minutes away.
The owners made sure we had everything we needed. The only disappointment was the generator was louder and ran more than I expected. The drawback is that although you are miles away from the nearest house or highway, you have the constant noise of the diesel generator. The owners did show me how to shut it off and start it back up so that we could have some time while it was not running. It did take some getting used to but should not keep anyone from staying at this wonderful cabin. Great for large and extended families and if you enjoy being outdoors. Although the weather was beautiful for our trip I want to return in warmer weather so that we can take advantage of the swimming holes.
This place is quickly becoming my home away from home. It's refreshing to visit and unplug. I recommend this property for any family or a romantic adventure with your significant other.
"Off The Grid" was exactly what we wanted! Our 3 teenagers wanted outdoor adventure, kayaking, and campfires with Dad for his birthday. We're not city folks. We LOVE nature! We know how to rough it, but thought it'd be nice to stay in a rustic cabin in nature, but enjoy the luxury of real beds, hot water and electricity.
When we arrived, off the beaten path and totally secluded, we were thrilled...until we stepped out of the truck and heard the Boing 747 preparing for take off: the GENERATOR! The sounds of nature could not be heard. The generator provides electricity and hot water, but we would have GLADLY gone without such amenities to have the roar of the turbine engine cease. The propane heater and gas stove would have been sufficient for heat and cooking. We had no need for hot water, because the kids refused to shower in the smell of rotten eggs. There is not a water softener, so the water reeks of good ol' Florida sulfur. The dishes could have been washed with water heated on the stove. Candles and flashlights would have been much better than hearing that damn generator every second of our hoped for "nature get-a-way."
We did make a beautiful campfire, gathered as a family to roast marshmallows, and enjoy the evening. We couldn't even have conversations because the fire pit is 15 feet away from the Boing 747. The stars were gorgeous, but we were quickly annoyed and went inside to play games. While playing, a pair of lady's dirty thongs were discovered between the couch cushions. YUCK!
The grill is completely rusted out. No steaks for Dad's b-day dinner.
The cabin's architecture is breathtaking, but the place obviously had not been cleaned in some time. Roach poop filled the kitchen drawers, covered the dishes and utensils. I spent the first two hours cleaning the kitchen and washing all the dishes. At bed time, the kids found an abundance of roaches in one bedroom, so they ALL slept in the front room with the lights on to keep the roaches away. Our bed had blood stains and dead bugs on the sheets, so I changed the bed with linens from the closet (hopefully clean). Cobwebs, spiders, bugs, roaches, and lizards were everywhere throughout the cabin. I grew up in the country and know this is par for the course, but if the screens didn't have holes and fit the windows properly, and the place was clean, this would not have occurred.
Two stars because the homeowner was gracious & allowed us to stay later in the day to enjoy a kayaking trip.
Located just 30 minutes from the Governers Square Mall in Tallahassee with everything you could possible need as far as shopping and entertainment goes. Only 35 miles from FSU's stadium via I-10.
