Its a rustic log cabin, totally handcrafted. Just below is the Chowan River and at the mouth of the Albermarle Sound. It is full of White Perch and you can go crabbing. Fire pit outside for roasting marshmellows.
My name is Doug Liverman. I live in Ahoskie NC. Ahoskie is about 25 minutes away from the cabin. The cabin was built basically to have more room when we (Kim and I ) would have all the family down for holiday weekends. It started out as just a square box shape and turned into what it is today. It is about 800 square feet sitting on a hillside just off the Chowan River in Bertie County N.C. It is pattern after a one hundred year old cabin that Kim, my girlfriend, found in a Sportsman magazine at a dentist office. Kim got me phone numbers and I called until I found the people who own the original one which is over a hunderd years old and much more rustic. We added a kitchen and a few other features to ours to make it what it is. A nice little cozy cabin on a hillside where it fits perfect over looking a pond in a quiet little area on the river. You can walk from the cabin to the pier on the river and never touch the ground. It is great for exercise if you are looking for that. As for myself I own a small business in Ahoskie and Kim is a nurse at the local hospital. There is a larger log home on the property which I try to spend as much time in as I possibly can. If you come and visit you will understand why.
Douglas Liverman and Kimberly Cox purchased this cabin in 2011
Mainly for the view. When I was sixteen my buddy and I would go down to this place and hang out, at that time it belonged to his grandparents. I would watch him and a friend of ours jump off a cliff that used to be in front of the main house. The crazy things we will do when we are young . I never knew that someday I would actually have a house on the same lot. The view is beautiful and breathtaking especially on a moon lite night or an early morning sunrise.
The view and location is great and it is very quaint and peaceful. If you are looking for a quiet week or weekend it's worth the trip. You can see deer running around, you can feed the ducks in the nearby pond, watch the rabbits run by, or maybe if you are lucky you may see a bald eagle fly. There are nice restaurants in the area that you can visit by land or river. Just one problem if you go by river you will need a boat, so if you have one you might want to bring it unless you luck up and Kim and I are around and hungry. There is some shopping a few miles away, a movie theater, and some historical viewing if you like things like that. It is small town shopping no W-marts. The nearest one is about 25 minutes away. The cabin does have a deck on the back with a fire pit, gas grill, and a screened in porch. There is a front porch with old timer rockers and a small table for early morning coffee. It has a microwave, also a coffee maker for the coffee lovers. The bathroom has a walk in shower but no tub, in the kitchen there is an oven, stove, and fridge. There is an outside hot tub at the big house that might be available.Jets skies and fishing boats are not available but there will be a paddle boat, small john boat with trolling motor for someone who may want to fish. Canoe or kayak and fishing reels will be available for daily rental. If there is a special occasion please let us know we will be more than willing to help. Check in time is at 3:00 PM, check out is at 11:00 AM.
Autumn is our favorite time of the year and The Little Cabin on the Hillside provided a cozy experience for the two of us! This adorable cabin had everything we needed plus more! The owners were more than gracious and invited us to share the beautiful view of the river from their property up the hill. There was a full "Blood Moon" while we were there. It was stunning to see it shine on the water! The cabin is located near the Historic Town of Edenton. Recommend a visit there especially to tour the newly restored lighthouse and eat lunch at the 309 Bistro. The Edenton Coffee House has wonderful coffees and pastries too.
Since our Mother recently died 3 sisters and 1 brother decided our Father needed a
R&R, so off we went to the Little Cabin on the Hillside.
We had such a great time and you couldnt have asked for a better host or hostess they couldnt do enough to make us feel welcome. From swimming, beach walking, fishing or outdoor grilling there is enough to keep you busy. We laughed and giggled like teenagers reminisced till late at night. Even did facial on each other and yes everyone even the men participated. Would highly recommend this get away for all ages. Thanks again Doug .

Beautifully decorated cabin, very clean, and quiet. On the other side of the hill is the Chowan river. Wide, calming, and peaceful. You can walk along the river or sit on the pier and fish; Doug even supplied us with a golf cart (or as he calls it a gas burner) to get around with. We even got to enjoy a memorable pontoon boat ride!!!
I was pleasantly surprised to find a place with the feel of a mountain cabin so close to home; my wife and I live in Edenton and are always looking for opportunities to explore within driving distance. Sunday was our one year wedding anniversary, and there is absolutely no better place we could have chosen to spend our special day. Kim and Doug really went out of their way to make it incredible, down to the fresh bread and pre-set items for the anniversary like chocolate covered strawberries, chilling our wine, and the last piece of wedding cake that we saved for good luck...
The cabin is immaculate with a fully stocked kitchen, living area, and comfortable beds, but we found ourselves sitting out on the screened in porch enjoying the cool river breeze most of our stay. (And doing yoga on the porch with the friendliest cat I've ever seen. We named her Yogi the Yoga Cat.) There is a great gas grill on the back porch that served up lamb chops and steaks during our visit, and a hammock out front under a tree for that after meal nap with a glass of pinot. Overall, a fabulous stay in a nearby getaway that couldn't be more unique or beautiful. Thank you for the opportunity to enjoy your cottage, and we hope to return soon.
My boyfriend and I loved everything about this unique cabin and property. The cabin is gorgeous and the decorating is superb. Everything from the awesome bathroom sink and shower detail to the bear carvings to the woods-themed dishes really made this place special. We greatly enjoyed drinking coffee by the fire, and the walkway to the water is beautiful. So glad we had the pleasure of meeting Doug! Highly recommended.
My girlfriend and I were looking for a place to spend long quiet weekend and found the cabin. We were extremely happy with it. She loves to cook and found the cabin very well equipped. She even made homemade raviolis. Between the kitchen and the grill we shared some wonderful meals and never found a reason to leave the property. Very enjoyable mornings drinking coffee on the porch or up on the top of the steps overlooking the river. We did the same in the evening while enjoying a cocktail or glass of wine. They also provided very nice linens and that was very important to my girlfriend as she travels with her own linens and didn't find a need to use them. Overall it turned out to be a perfect weekend. The cabin is very charming and was very clean. Doug and Kim weren't there that weekend but we did have the pleasure of meeting them the morning we were leaving and they were very warm and welcoming. We would definitely like to return.
