Remote retreat

  • 4 of 5
Husband, wife and dog made this remote retreat their headquarters for a two week stay mid-way between Duluth and Two Harbors. It is about 20 minutes to both downtowns from the house. It is remote being several miles off the main highway and then 1 1/2 miles back in the woods. It is very peaceful -- even the river runs quietly at this time of year. The description and photos are accurate and fairly list the amenities. There is lots of room and natural light in the house and we enjoyed sitting on the deck and occassionaly have a meal out there. The configuartion of the bedrooms and bathrooms is a little unusual in that two of the bedrooms (one upstairs and one on lower level) either have to share a bathroom located in another bedroom or share the very nice bathroom on the main floor. However two families with children might not find this cumbersome. Owner Lisa was very responsive to our requests being reachable by cell phone every day of the week. Almost everyday we either drove into Two Harbors at Burlington Bay or the Lighthouse for a swim (the dog) and a walk along the lake shore -- all three of us, or we drove to Brighton Beach just north of Duluth for the same activity. Betty's Pies is just north of TH, the New Scenic Cafe is just down the hill from the house and the tourist activities of Duluth and Canal Park are just a short drive. And if you like old fashioned hardware stores, the True Value in TH is not to be missed -- we bought things from pickled beets and jams to hardware items from the very knowledgeable staff.

Peaceful Serenity

  • 5 of 5
We absolutely loved this place! We had a girls weekend of 6 ladies and all fit and slept comfortably. The river is a very short walk from the house and has a bench with a beautiful view. We loved being able to hear the river from the house. The house is nice and spacious and the kitchen is a great place to hangout. Fire pit outside we would have loved to checkout if it would't have rained all weekend. Very private area, can't see the neighbors. 10-15 minutes from Duluth and 10 minutes from Two Harbors. I would highly recommend this place to anyone but would also be a fun place for couples to go. Nicely kept place, clean, and had all the necessary items.

lovely location

  • 4 of 5
House was very nice and location is lovely. The house has kinda' odd arrangement and there were mice droppings in the kitchen. But, it is in the woods and the weather was getting cooler. Lots of books and games for children as well as adults. A lot of soccer was played in the front yard.

Awesome Property

  • 5 of 5
Our family of 7 thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the woods. We were close enough to Duluth to be able to go back and forth daily and to see the other wonderful sites nearby. Our family made great memories playing bocce ball in the yard and using the exercise equipment room. Would highly recommend this location and would love to go back some day.

Quiet and Wonderful

  • 5 of 5
We had a really nice time at your rental place August 10-15. It was perfectly quiet, very comfortable, and very dark at night which made looking at the stars spectacular. We bought a couple of hummingbird feeders to leave there because the hummingbirds were very active and we did not want to leave them suddenly without the nectar. One is hanging under the eaves outside the sliding door to the deck and the other is stuck in one of the flower boxes on the deck. We left a small bottle of nectar in the refrigerator with a note on it and a note on the side of the refrigerator with instructions. It was a perfect place for our vacation and your list of restaurants and things to see was very helpful. One restaurant, The Lighthouse at Emily's was especially memorable. It is located at 218 Scenic Drive, Scenic Hwy 61, Knife River, MN, and is a very short drive from your place. A really great candy store is right across the street from it. The entire route of Scenic Highway 61 is worth driving. Thanks again for everything.

Quiet, Yet Close to Amenities

  • 5 of 5
We stayed in this lovely home temporarily, shortly after relocating to the Duluth area. The location is very private, but only about 15 to 20 minutes from downtown Duluth, and about 25 minutes from the Miller Hill Mall area. Just a short drive to Hawk Ridge, Glensheen, and Lake Shore Drive. Beautiful location in a heavily wooded area next to a creek - we saw a lot of deer during our stay. The home is tastefully decorated and has it's own sauna, jacuzzi, exercise room, and a screened in area off the deck. Perfect for a weekend retreat or relaxing vacation. The owner was great to deal with too - very accomodating and responsive to our requests.
