Coast Ranch is one of the most spectacular ocean front properties on the California coast. Ideally located in The Coastlands development of Big Sur, offering privacy and serenity overlooking the Big Sur Coastline it is just a short drive to the Big Sur Bakery, Nepenthe Restaurant, The Post Ranch and Ventana Inn. Coast Ranch is ideal for a small group or a couple and is situated on 130 acres, nestled on a ridge at an elevation of 900 feet with stunning ever changing views to the north and south. A nice green California lawn spreads from the west side of the main house to a bench with a spectacular ocean view. Numerous small native shrubs, flowers and trees grow here, their diversity reflecting the many microclimatic areas that Monterey County is known for. From the ridge whales are often visible frolicking in the deep waters below and Condors can be seen soaring above. The property drops away dramatically to the ocean below where your will find an amazing private beach and although the trail is mildly challenging it is worth the hike and a rest stop at Fern Springs is recommended where you can drink fresh water spouting out directly from the spring. The beach is teeming with sea birds and the smell of the waves and salt air is heady. Tidal action and the shoreline provide great interest. Standing there you look around and know this place hasn't changed for thousands of years! And it is completely private! Back up on the ridge there are cool swings to go to and fro while watching the horizon. Oh! and the sunsets are as good as any in the world-no kidding! One can sit and daydream or take in the sunsets with your favorite beverage. This place is the perfect retreat!
The house is vintage 1930's Big Sur. It is of post & beam construction and adobe brick handmade from clay on the property. It has historical significance as it was constructed during the era of the opening of the Carmel-San Simeon Highway (now known as Highway 1). The house has a full kitchen, a master bedroom with a king bed, a second bedroom with a queen bed, an inside shower & small tub as well as an outside shower and cool old claw-foot tub to soak in. The large living room has a wood burning stove with a carved mantel piece above and is graced by two large indoor Ficus trees on either end. A beautiful dining table is located in the 'Big Room' and looks out to the North. There is a more intimate breakfast table located next to the kitchen which faces out to the courtyard. The yard is fenced by a low hand split rail fence which opens to a great view of the Pacific. The feel of the place is laid-back and unassuming. It is quintessential Big Sur.
We are sorry we do not host events of any kind. We are catering to small groups of six or less who wish to have a quiet experience in nature. There are two prices, one for the entire ranch and one for the main house. VRBO does not allow us to post both rates on our home page.
Many trail heads & State Parks are within a short distance of this property. Pfeiffer State Park is home to numerous old growth redwoods with the Big Sur River flowing through it. Julia Pfeiffer Burns and the notable McWay Falls are just south of here. For dining out the Post Ranch Inn & Sierra Mar Restaurant are within 1/2 mile of the property and also Ventana Inn and Spa which is directly across from Post Ranch Inn all within a short drive. Carmel, to the north, is a spectacular 35 minute drive that you will never forget! But, some of our guests never leave the Ranch. Holiday weekends have a three day minimum.

Eight person max for the entire ranch $1,200 per night plus fees and a six person max for main house and red room, $800.00 per night plus fees. Tax of 10.5% is added for Monterey County TOT and $200/300. cleaning. There is also a refundable security deposit.

If the reservation is made with less than two weeks to check- in, all funds are due within 24 hrs We also have each party sign a rental agreement.
