Tossa de Mar: Tossa de Mar is a beautiful town with cobbled streets, a magnificent ancient castle and a beautiful mountainous hinterland with lush green valleys, gorges and natural springs, and not to forget its maritime cuisine. Medieval Tossa dates back to the year 966 and in 1187 the castle was built on the headland to defend the town against sea borne invaders. In 1931, the Vila Vella of Tossa was declared a National Historical-Artistic Monument. The city walls in the Cape of Tossa are currently the only example of a fortified mediaeval town that still remains on the Catalan coast. The most interesting building within the walled enclosure is the Municipal Museum, with many important works of modern art, e.g., Marc Chagall, George Kars, André Masson and Oscar Zügel, and archaeological finds. The natural beauty of this area has attracted many leading artists to Tossa which explains why the town became home Spain's first Museum of Modern Art in 1935.
