About Desiree Maurer or Shane Hennessey
My husband and I relocated to Charleston from the northeast because of our love of Charleston's beautiful beaches, mainly Folly, and to enjoy the relaxing pace that Charlestonians live. This area is a fabulous place to live and we love the ability to go to the beach any time of the year.
After escaping the rat race of New England, we find walking the beach is a wonderful way to clear our head, unwind and relax. There is something about - at least for us - finding a sand dollar nestled in the sand, a new turtle nest, or seeing dolphins playing in the water down by the light house. And, while our son, who is part owner, now lives in New Orleans as a manager of a hostel, our pure enjoyment is watching him and his girlfriend relax and enjoy the same things we fell in love with Folly, when they come to visit. And, we love being able to share that feeling with you!
We hope you come back for years to come. But, if you ever find you would like to relocate here permanently, please let me know and I would be happy to help you find your new home.

Why Desiree Maurer or Shane Hennessey chose Folly Beach
Folly now has many restaurants and entertainment that we equally enjoy. But some of my favorite times are in the water. Swimming, Fishing the Surf, riding the waves, Fishing from the pier, or boating the Folly River while skiing, tubing and of course, fishing and shrimping.
The Low country is abundant in crabs, shrimp and fish. The many local piers make it easy and fun to catch your own meal, or if you do not get a nibble, Crosby's seafood is just up the road with some of the best local seafood around for you to take home and prepare. Come on Down to the Low Country and experience the Edge of America ( Folly Beach) 1st hand. You won't be disappointed.
Guestbook comments from the owner
We had a really great time in Folley Beach and the Island Girl was a great choice for our stay. The cottage is super cute and comfortable. Thank you again for everything. We just wished the weather would have been warmer, but we still found lots to do and had fun. We left 2 kites in the shed for your future guests to enjoy.
We look forward to coming back again soon!
