Ruffed Grouse Lodge is located in Elk Township, three miles from Phillip’s town center. Elk is in the heart of Price County, the Ruffed Grouse Capital of the World as designated by the Ruffed Grouse Society and is in the center of Wisconsin’s Northwoods with over 1.2 million acres of huntable land and the largest ruffed grouse and woodcock population in the nation.
HUNTERS RETURN WITH THEIR DOGS EVERY FALL TO PURSUE THE ELUSIVE 'WINGED DYNAMITE'
ELK RIVER FARM, Ruffed Grouse Lodge’s adjoining sister property, now has a newly built, beautifully appointed, 1 bedroom cottage. A Wolf Gas Range, Subzero Refrigerator and In-drawer microwave complete a custom crafted kitchen. A tile shower and granite countertops make our new cottage the top of the spectrum of properties in the area. ERF is designed for a couple looking for a secluded hideaway. Sorry, we do not allow children or pets at the Cottage.
The COTTAGE AT ELK RIVER FARM overlooks the Elk River and has very private access to a 2-mile secluded stretch of the river. There is a private boat launch for our guests who want to fish the Elk River for Muskie, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Bluegills and Crappies. Canoes and kayaks are handy for a peaceful trip along a beautiful stretch of the river where wildlife is abundant.
ELK RIVER FARM HAS A UNIQUE FEATURE NOT FOUND ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE NORTHWOODS!
The owners transformed a 19th century barn foundation to create a 'Karesansui,' or Japanese 'dry landscape garden.' The garden holds a carefully composed arrangement of indigenous rocks, water features, moss, pruned trees and shrubs. Small stones are raked to represent ripples in water. The 'Karesansui' is meant to be observed from a vantage point outside the garden. It is intended to reflect the intimate essence of nature, and to aid relaxation and the contemplation of life. The owners are students of Sukiya lifestyles and are delighted to share this special feature of Elk River Farm with interested guests.
Ruffed Grouse Lodge and Elk River Farm are connected through forested walking trails. Both locations have fire pits with free firewood and picnic areas, which are perfect for family gatherings.
Alumacraft fishing boats, canoes and kayaks are included at both Ruffed Grouse Lodge and Elk River Farm. A pontoon boat, a Yamaha 8hp outboard motor, and a MinnKota trolling motor are available for daily or weekly rental. For guests bringing their own boats, there is a public landing serving Wilson Lake one mile from the Lodge. There is also a private boat launch for access to the Elk River.
RGL is pet friendly. There is a free, sheltered, heated dog kennel. There is a $20 daily charge for crated dogs staying with their owners in the Lodge

One of the first resorts on Wilson Lake was situated on this choice property. The grounds are gently sloping with stairless access to the lake. The history of the area is fascinating and our bay is quiet, quiet, quiet except during the fishing opener and the 4th of July when excited fishermen and families celebrate summer.
