Phillips Lodge Rental Photos and Description

Ruffed Grouse Lodge (8) Timberdoodle (2) Remi (2) Cottage at Elk River Farm (2)

RUFFED GROUSE LODGE is a premium resort for year-round rental on beautiful Wilson Lake in Phillips, Wisconsin. Situated on 100+ acres of private Northwoods vacationland in Price County, Ruffed Grouse Lodge is the perfect setting for vacationers seeking peace and solitude but who also desire outdoor adventure. The private grounds have plenty of room for outdoor games and gatherings. Ruffed Grouse Lodge will deliver a unique experience for your next family vacation, grouse hunt, fishing trip, or business retreat.

Ruffed Grouse Lodge is a private 4 bedroom, 2 bath guesthouse that can comfortably accommodate up to eight people. The rustic interior is beautifully appointed with furnishings from the owner’s extensive personal collection and is accented by hunting and fishing memorabilia. The Lodge has an open floor plan with vaulted ceiling and log features. The living area holds a pool table, a 40' HDTV, a Dish Network satellite system, Wi-Fi, a CD stereo, a VCR and DVD. There are two comfortable dining areas. A fully equipped kitchen has custom cabinets, gas appliances, dishwasher and microwave. A Weber barbeque grill is included. A large sun porch with unobstructed views overlooks a quiet bay on Wilson Lake.

Timberdoodle, a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage, is steps away from the lake. It is furnished with a queen bed, a sitting room with HDTV, and a compete kitchen.

Remington is a beautifully appointed cottage perfect for couples. It is furnished with a queen bed, sitting area, small kitchen, & has a full bath with tile shower.

Timberdoodle and Remington are the perfect cottages for two or additional relatives of families staying in the Lodge.

Ruffed Grouse Lodge grounds are bounded on the south by a private shoreline on the 351-acre Wilson Lake, which is connected to the extensive 1200-acre Phillips’ Chain of Lakes. There is a private sandy swimming beach with a fire pit and a swim raft.

Organic gardens abound at Ruffed Grouse Lodge and guests are invited to pick fresh vegetables and raspberries. Chickens free range on the grounds and children delight in gathering eggs from the nests in the coop.

Ruffed Grouse Lodge is located in Elk Township, three miles from Phillip’s town center. Elk is in the heart of Price County, the Ruffed Grouse Capital of the World as designated by the Ruffed Grouse Society and is in the center of Wisconsin’s Northwoods with over 1.2 million acres of huntable land and the largest ruffed grouse and woodcock population in the nation.

ELK RIVER FARM, Ruffed Grouse Lodge’s adjoining sister property, now has a newly built, beautifully appointed, one bedroom cottage. A Wolf Gas Range, Subzero Refrigerator and In-drawer microwave complete a custom crafted kitchen. A tile shower and granite countertops make our new cottage the top of the spectrum of properties in the area. ERF is designed for a couple looking for a secluded hideaway. Sorry, we do not allow children or pets at the Cottage.

The COTTAGE AT ELK RIVER FARM overlooks the Elk River and has very private access to a 2-mile secluded stretch of the river. There is a private boat launch for our guests who want to fish the Elk River for Muskie, Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Bluegills and Crappies. Canoes and kayaks are handy for a peaceful trip along a beautiful stretch of the river where wildlife is abundant.

The owners transformed a 19th century barn foundation to create a 'Karesansui,' or Japanese 'dry landscape garden.' The garden holds a carefully composed arrangement of indigenous rocks, water features, moss, pruned trees and shrubs. Small stones are raked to represent ripples in water. The 'Karesansui' is meant to be observed from a vantage point outside the garden. It is intended to reflect the intimate essence of nature, and to aid relaxation and the contemplation of life. The owners are students of Sukiya lifestyles and are delighted to share this special feature of Elk River Farm with interested guests.

Ruffed Grouse Lodge and Elk River Farm are connected through forested walking trails. Both locations have fire pits with free firewood and picnic areas, which are perfect for family gatherings.

Alumacraft fishing boats, canoes and kayaks are included at both Ruffed Grouse Lodge and Elk River Farm. A Yamaha 8hp outboard motor, and a MinnKota trolling motor are available for daily or weekly rental. For guests bringing their own boats, there is a public landing serving Wilson Lake one mile from the Lodge. There is also a private boat launch for access to the Elk River.

RGL is pet friendly. There is a free, sheltered, heated dog kennel. There is a $20 daily charge for crated dogs staying with their owners in the Lodge

About John & Linda Reardon

Linda & I are retired Television Entertainment Industry Executives. We are outdoor enthusiasts and have been hosting families, corporate executives, grouse hunters, fishermen and winter sportsmen at Ruffed Grouse Lodge for over 10 years.

John & Linda Reardon purchased this lodge in 1999

Why John & Linda Reardon chose Phillips

Linda grew up in nearby Park Falls and family members are nearby. Her brother Terry Ides has lived here his whole life and knows the Northwoods intimately. Terry owns and leads Ides Guides, the best grouse guide service in Price County, the Ruffed Grouse Capital of the World. We have been hunting grouse with Terry for over 35 years. See his link on

What makes this lodge unique

One of the first resorts on Wilson Lake was situated on this choice property. The grounds are gently sloping with stairless access to the lake. The history of the area is fascinating and our bay is quiet, quiet, quiet except during the fishing opener and the 4th of July when excited fishermen and families celebrate summer.

Our Annual Grouse Hunting Destination

  • 5 of 5

We have been staying in the Ruffed Grouse Lodge for a number of years for our annual grouse hunt and love it. The lodge is large enough for several couples to be comfortable, and the amenities are first rate. It's the kind of quality you seldom see in a North woods setting. John and Linda Reardon are the best. They bring an urban sophistication from a prior life, and their sense of service, design, and detail is unparalleled.

If you are lucky, as we have been, you will become friends and hang out together, sharing your personal and family experiences over dinner...looking forward to another happy reunion next year.

Our Vacation at Ruffed Grouse Lodge

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the immense pleasure of spending our summer vacation at a

beautiful retreat in the northwoods of Wisconsin - Ruffed Grouse Lodge (RGL).

Having used VRBO for years, I had a great first impression about John & Linda, simply by how much effort they put into their listing. And it only got better from there...

I initially exchanged emails with them, requesting more information and describing our family - Mom, Dad & 4 kids, ages 9 - 13. While this back-and-forth was going on by email, the phone suddenly rang - and it was John! He'd had enough of email, and preferred a personal conversation on the phone. This personal touch was just the first of many to come during our visit, and we were hooked.

RGL, and the entire "Complex", exceeded our expecations (which were already high because of their listing!). I call it the "Complex" because a visit to RGL involves more than just the lodge. John & Linda open up their entire 100 acre property to guests. This includes their personal organic garden and chicken coop! Our kids were invited daily to come and gather eggs, as well as anything else ready for harvest from the garden. Canoes, kayaks, John's tools & air compressor, etc - it was all generously offered for our use. A highlight of the visit for our kids was Linda letting each of them drive their golf cart! All of this was an on-going demonstration of the personal attention John & Linda offer - they truly made us feel like family.

Our first visit to Ruffed Grouse Lodge was very special - and we're looking forward to returning. Thank you, John & Linda!

A Slice of Heaven on Earth !!

  • 5 of 5

In all of our travels, we have never encountered a more heavenly place! John & Linda met us as we arrived and we immediately felt like we were "home". They are born hostesses and have definitely found their calling. We stayed at Elk River Cabin and other than our own ineptness to operate the TV/Satelite system :) our entire long weekend was absolutely perfect. We had unseasonably warm temperatures, vibrant fall colors, and the best accomodations money can buy. This trip was the highlight of 2014 for us and we're already looking for dates that we can make our next trip. I don't feel that I have anything to add to what the other reviewers have already said other than my confirmation that they have spoken the truth and you will not be disappointed!

Perfect for us

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great stay at RGL. It was Mom and Dad, three kids (6,3,4months) and Grandma and Grandpa. The lodge had everything we needed to cook all our meals and it was great being able to forage for vegetables and eggs on site! We enjoyed several walks across the property to Elk River.

What we liked inside the house: In the main living area, there are 3 separate areas. This allowed for us to spread out when needed. The master bedroom is downstairs and very private - a nice touch for grandparents. Grandpa enjoyed the nice tv and satellite to keep up with Brewers and Packers. Kids enjoyed the selection of movies.

What we liked outside the house: We made great use of the canoes and kayaks. One day I paddled with my daughter through the chain of lakes and down the Elk River to the sister property. The next day back with my son. My son caught a nice Northern on the way back - not bad for a 3 years old! I caught a nice bass going through the tunnel. My daughter and grandparents killed it with John Carlson, fishing guide. The kept abut 30 crappies and caught many more. Fishing was not great from the pier this time of year.

Mostly overcast the whole week, but we still had a great time. Still got in fires at the fire pit and swimming on the beach.

It is very quiet on this side of the chain of lakes. Many mornings/days we were the only ones on the lake. Not until the last day (muskie tournament) did we hear motorboats buzz by in the early morning. Loons all around as well as eagles and other great birds.

Linda and John were great hosts - they showed us the property and the Elk River. Truly nice people that clearly have a passion for developing and running an awesome Northern Wisconsin get away. We felt at home on the property and it was great having the kids run free. Our kids are very good with animals so they loved visiting the chickens several times a days.

We will look to go back again and consider the 2 person cabins for time we can get away without the kids.

Elk River Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Linda & John,

The cottage is so nice I almost don't want to write a review because it will never be open again. We had a great couple days there. The things you have done with the place and the property make it both relaxing and fun to be at. The place is very interesting and John thank you for showing us some of the other properties-they were also beautiful. Thanks again we will make it back in the near future.

Great family getaway in the north woods!

  • 5 of 5

John and Linda were great! The house was spacious, well stocked, and in the middle if a beautiful property. The bedrooms were large and comfirtsbly furnished. We enjoyed relaxing, cooking, fishing, hiking, reading sightseeing on nearby towns And The views were fantastic. Gushing in the lake was average, but the river exceeded expectation. We will definitely be back!!
