About The Owner

The Kickapoo Valley has a special place in our hearts as we grew up here and came back to raise our family in this beautiful area. We have three grown boys who love to visit and enjoy the Kickapoo Valley and all it has to offer. We love to share this unique property with family and friends and welcome you to join us too.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2006

Why The Owner chose Hillsboro

We purchased this piece of land several years ago from friends and neighbors, and built the cabin bit by bit over the years with the help of many friends, family, and local craftsmen. We enjoy it's beauty and want to share it with you!

What makes this cabin unique

This setting is like no other. We have a top quality trout stream steps from the front door. Abundant wildlife in every season. The views are gorgeous all around. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting on the porch, watching the wildlife, hearing the sounds of Bear Creek trickling by, enjoying a fire in the fire pit after dark, and just relaxing.

Awesome family fishing weekend!

  • 5 of 5

Just returned from an amazing weekend at the Bear Creek Retreat. It was my husband and I, two teenage sons, their grandfather, and 2 yellow labs. The location is just close enough to town to get a few essentials, but far enough away for peace and quiet. The dogs were able to run and swim, but when we needed them out of the water, we used the outdoor dog kennel, which was perfect. The fishing was great and nobody got bored. We will definitely come back!

Perfect retreat

  • 5 of 5

This property is so wonderful. The creek on the property is like a constant little waterfall. There's plenty of room to take a walk along the winding water. The firepit makes for fun evenings while sipping your favorite wine! Our dog loved it so much, she didn't want to get in the car as we were leaving! The house is plenty warm for those chilly spring nights too. We were treated one afternoon by a soaring bald eagle about 100 yards out. Very private and peaceful place.

Babbling Creek

  • 5 of 5

We just arrived home from our stay in LaFarge. My family members and I stayed for a long week end. This cabin and it's surroundings were heavenly. Clean, comfortable, private, and just beautiful. The owners were very accommodating and nice. We forgot a blender to make our drinks. The owner promptly went out and bought one for our use at his cabin. Skip the camping. We plan on returning to this Little Bit of Heaven.

A little slice of heaven

  • 5 of 5

It was a quick weekend stay with a lot on our agenda during the day but after sitting on the porch for a few minutes I wanted to cancel our plans and take in the solitude and beautiful view all weekend. We woke up to mist on the hills and got to take a walk through the nearby pine grove and wade in the stream before setting off for the day. The house is set back from the road and is buffered by a cornfield, and there isn't another house in sight so it really feels like a retreat. The cabin is lovingly cared for and well-stocked.

La Farge is a sweet little town less than a mile away for provisions and breakfast, and the region is rich with beautiful views, farm stands, hiking, and salt-of-the earth people!

I can't wait to come back! Thanks for a great stay!

Our 1 week stay

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying here for 1 week Aug 18-25. From the very first moments of arrival we knew it was going to be a great week. Every day we had a bald eagle visit and stay in a tree about 100 yards from the cabin. Fishing in the trout stream by the cabin was great and some trout were caught. The cabin is beutiful and comfortable. Even with rain we were able to sit on the porch and enjoy the view. Being able to bring our dog and watch him walk all over and go in the stream was great. Thanks for a great experience Barry and Beth.

Perfect

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dog and I stayed here for a long weekend. We had a great time on the property and surrounding area. Trout were caught in the stream right behind the cabin, we walked the property and gazed at the stars at night. It was a perfect mini vacation for our little family. Our golden retriever had just as much fun going in and out of the creek. We also hiked Wildcat Mountain and canoed the Kickapoo. There are a few places to eat nearby but we mostly cooked everything right at the cabin. We spoke with Barry a couple times during our stay and he was very helpful and friendly. We'll definitely try to get back to this little piece of paradise.
