FANTASTIC AREA FOR HISTORY:
THERE IS SO MUCH HISTORY IN THE AREA, MONDA CASTLE FOR EXAMPLE IS AN OLD MOORISH CASTLE, BUT IT ALSO DATES BACK TO THE ROMAN EMPIRE, AND WE HAVE AN ORIGINAL ROMAN BRIDGE IN THE AREA CLOSE TO MONDA, WHICH IS THE NEXT VILLAGE TO GUARO. IN 45BC THE ROMAN CIVIL WAR WHICH HAD BEEN RAGING BETWEEN THE FORCES OF POMPEII AND JULIUS CAESAR WAS BROUGHT TO AN END IN JULIUS CAESARS FAVOUR AT THE BATTLE OF 'MUNDA'. THE SITE OF THE ROMAN SPANISH TOWN OF 'MUNDA' AND 'MONDA' ARE SAID TO BE THE SAME, ALTHOUGH SOME DISPUTE THIS, THE LOCAL INHABITANTS STILL SUPPORT THE THEORY. ITS A GREAT STORY AND NO REASON WHY IT SHOULDN'T BE FACT. MONDA CASTLE IS A FABULOUS PLACE TO VISIT, EITHER FOR A COFFEE OR A MEAL IN THE A LA CARTE RESTAURANT WITH FANTASTIC VIEWS TO THE LOCAL SURROUNDING COUNTRYSIDE. IT EVEN HAS A MINIATURE VERSION OF THE ALHAMBRA GARDENS THERE AND IS A GREAT VENUE FOR WEDDINGS AND ANY CELEBRATION, AS IT ALSO CONTAINS A HOTEL.
Inland from Marbella:
Inland from Marbella, not only offers fantastic scenery in the mountains of 'Sierra de las Nieves' (the snowy mountains in English) but also offers much more value for money when it comes to dining out.
For example, 8 of our guests went out and had a great meal, including wine and drinks and got a bill for €63? They went and did it again at another local restaurant and spent only €75, once again for 8 of them, and believe me although they were not heavy drinkers, they do like their food!!
Here in the country we are surrounded by restaurants which are known locally as “Venta’s” and every single day, you can buy a 3 course meal which is called the “Menu del dia” for as little as €7!
Guaranteed sunshine in SPAIN!:
Despite the efforts of the BBC weather department to try and convince us that we were going to have a good summer for 2009, we all know that it unfortunately rained for the majority of the summer months. Just a point to ad if you are thinking of coming to Spain this or next year, it didnt rain in summer 2009 after the middle of April!
Just book a flight and come here, and actually enjoy your holiday in the sunshine, instead of wondering what the heck you are going to do everyday whilst its raining!! There are only so many times you can go shopping to alleviate the boredom!! Believe me we’ve done it with 2 small children!
Ski:
We are only a 2 and a half hour drive from the ski fields near to Granada, but we have a fantastic bus service which is run by a friend of ours, we are currently looking into how much he will be charging for a return trip to the sji areas this and next year, as soon as we find out we will write the information here.
