Hi! We're the Dohrenwends, a family of four that live and work abroad in Tokyo, Japan. While we're here we love to spend our time picking blueberries and thimbleberries, riding our bikes on Marquette's excellent bike paths, going on picnics to the sublime local beaches and waterfalls, hiking on trails off of CR 550, fishing, rock-climbing and gardening.

Amber Dohrenwend purchased this house in 2007

One of the things we love about our house in Marquette is the easy access to so many of our favorite local spots! Our two children love to visit the excellent Peter White Public Library, playgrounds, and local farmers' market on Saturdays, all within 10 minutes walk from our front door. 3rd Street, which is a 1/2 block away, has more than 10 local restaurants on offer, a small grocery store, pharmacy, local brewery, you name it... our location couldn't be more ideal for your stay, whether you are attending one of Marquette's many events, visiting a son or daughter at NMU, utilizing services at Marquette General Hospital, or enjoying the dizzying amount of recreational activities on offer in the region.

Aside from the location, we think you'll enjoy the character of our 100 year old Victorian house. It has lots of natural light, turn-of-the-century wood moldings, bannisters and doors, 10 foot ceilings, stained glass windows, a claw-foot bathtub, front porch and back sun room. We have a large fenced-in back yard which is shaded by a giant silver Maple, one of the oldest trees in the city. If you're here in spring, summer, or fall you can help yourself to some of the fruits and vegetables we grow in our garden. Depending on when you're here, there may be strawberries, asparagus, rhubarb, fresh herbs, raspberries, apples, tomatoes, or salad greens. And if you've got a green thumb yourself you're welcome to pull a weed or two if you can't help yourself.

A husband, wife and Lucy… (the family dog) : )

This house is beautiful! I love the hardwood floors, very clean, very roomy! Loved the tub! I saw a past review, so I brought my own bath salts, and bath milk… (ahhhhhh) nice after the extra dump of snow we got that weekend! LOL! Enjoyed not having cable TV! We watched Cast Away one night…. Fun, ordered some Pasties! We found this house for our super awesome dog Lucy since it's fenced in, but at the time… LOL the snow was 4 feet tall… like 8 inches in some spots away from the top! I would love to come back in the summer, but she is a good dog and stayed in the yard… : ) We took long walks down Ohio Street, all the way to the end. We hiked to Dead River Falls and hiked to Ebon Ice Cave, (only in the winter you can do this, and don't forget ice cleats!) I originally planned on going Kayaking the ice bergs in Lake Superior, but the lake froze up again the day after we arrived. But, we saw an ice cave, and that was sooooo cool! We love the Upper Peninsula, and loved staying at this house, rather than a hotel. This house makes it feel as its your own… and I didn't want to leave. : ( Definitely will come back when we are back to this area. Thank you so much! I also need to thank the neighbors very much for shoveling the driveway when we did get 12 inches of snow on that Friday!!!!!! : ) Thank you!!!!!! : )

beautiful house - hard to tell from the outside but love the inside - high ceilings, woodwork, a real gem. only challenge was no cable- but only because we were there during the Olympics - otherwise would not care - and they have a DVD player and some movies there. close to town and skiing. we will not ever stay anywhere else when we go to Marquette - in the summer we will camp in the back yard and stare at the house - until we get arrested for trespassing. thanks for sharing your house with the general public.

Winter Wedding Retreat for family of the Bride

Our daughter's wedding was recently held in Marquette and we wanted a home away from home so that she could stay with us leading up to the wedding. And feel as if she were "home." This house was perfect for us, there are 4 good sized bedrooms. The bathroom is huge, with a claw-foot tub which allowed for some pre-wedding pampering for the bride! The kitchen is wonderful, fully equipped with anything you would need to cook a gourmet meal! The living room, front parlor and dining room have plenty of space as well. We all really enjoyed the decor of the home and the sweet holiday accents that were up! We had a 2 hour window between the wedding and reception, and were able to invite family that were in town for the wedding over to the house for cocktails between and had plenty of space for everyone! It's also very close to restaurants and shops, we walked to breakfast a couple of the days we were there. The only negative is that it could use a 1/2 bath on the main level. Other than that we LOVED staying in this home!

Christmas Family Vacation

My husband and I decided to rent a house for Christmas and get both of our families together to stay there with us. This was a PERFECT location for us. His brother lived three blocks down on Ohio and the house fit all of our needs. We had a dog so the backyard was great and it was within walking distance of many of the things we needed. House was well stocked for what we need to cook our Christmas meals. Only advice would be make sure you turn the heat down at night as with all the people we had in the house (7 adults) we were TOASTY warm...a little too warm. But other than that, which we were able to fix by turning it down at night...it was a great house and we would definitely rent again! Owner and her parents were great at communication and answering our questions.
