Enjoy Wine Country in this family-friendly farmhouse, featuring pool, hot-tub with private outdoor shower, majestic redwoods and indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
We are located 45 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge, and less than one mile from historic Sonoma Plaza, with it's fine dining, and historic Mission. Over 30 wineries are no farther than 15 minutes away, many within easy biking distance.
Private grounds are perfect for a family desiring to spend some together-time in a cozy, farmhouse setting. Landscaping includes 37 rose bushes, sauvage prairie-style plantings, lawns, crushed granite walkways, trellised grape vines, fountain, and an old-school tree swing from one of old walnut trees. The magical setting is perfect for BBQ's and outdoors eating, with a table for 6 on the lawn under one of the old Walnut trees from the original grove. There are five towering redwoods on the property, the largest of which we have named 'Big Beauty'.
The original house was built in 1906 and is one of the Heritage farmhouses of Old Sonoma. The home has original redwood frame construction, and honey-colored doug-fir floors. The property is also graced with a 3-story Water Tower separate from the main house. While the original Water Tower on the property is not accessible to guests, it is a reminder of the historical nature of the property, as the former estate home of a large Walnut grove.
The interior features 2 bedrooms and bath downstairs, and an upstairs bedroom and bath. Additionally, there is a large Sunroom / playroom, where our son spends endless hours.
The gated off Pool is solar heated, and the entire property is fenced in, so your kids can run around safely. The Pool area has a small raised deck under a shaded canopy.
Heather and Andre moved to Sonoma in 2008, from San Francisco, and after many long months of looking, bought this property after we were immediately captivated by its magical feel. We have a 4 year old son, who loves running around the yard, tinkering in the raised-bed gardens, and jumping into the pool.
Andre Juilland purchased this farmhouse in 2010
The wonderful setting of an older, rustic farmhouse, in a magical garden-like setting, with towering redwoods, and calm, cooling pool, sold us on this property.
Whenever we come home from a trip, we always remark how good it feels to be 'coming home'.
Andre loves to jump into the pool after going for a long bike workout on the weekends, and we love how easy it is to entertain guests, especially those with kids, splitting time between running around the house, BBQ'ing, jumping in the pool, or sharing dinner and wine on the main lawn under the shade of the Walnut.
This house is truly a gem and it is absolutely perfect especially if you have kids. Stop looking around and book this house! I have twin 3 year olds and a 6 year old and every day we were laughing aloud at how perfect it was for them. The owners have a son with a very large and very well stocked playroom. Between that, the hot tub and the back yard, our kids were occupied and happy all the time, which gave us time to sit on the couch and stare at the fire! This house has such a wonderful feeling and though it was originally a farm house, it has all the modern upkeeps you'd want, like a wonderful kitchen and great heating. There is such a refreshing simplicity to the house, the land and the surrounding area. We'd be the first in line to buy it if they were crazy enough to leave! We are booking it again for sure. Would love to make it a yearly vacation spot.
I highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in the wine country. The property was as it appeared (in photos) and just as it was described in the listing. It was immaculately clean and perfectly situated for our family of 4. The adults stayed in the room downstairs and our 2 girls shared the room upstairs. We only ever left the property to grocery shop or take a stroll (about 15-20min) to the Sonoma square. Other than that, we stayed on property for the majority of our weekend to enjoy the swimming pool, hot tub, spacious yard and outdoor dining table. Thankfully, the weather cooperated for teh weekend as well.
These are easy and thoughtful owners to work with. They considerately left brochures and maps for Sonoma as part of a 'welcome basket', as well as fruit from the garden and a bottle of wine! We will definitely return to this home when looking for another getaway weekend from foggy San Francisco.
This house is so incredibly charming. And, though we didn't bring kids, it's PERFECT for little ones. They'd be happy for days playing in the toy room, on the swing, in the sandbox... you name it. The house is so comfortable and the outdoor living spaces are so fantastic. Out the kitchen is an expanse of green lawn with a rustic table and chairs (where we had drinks and dinner nightly). Then there is a jacuzzi... and a garden (we were greeted with a basket of fresh pickins for our stay. Then there is a sandbox for kids (aforementioned). And THEN there is a gated pool with lots of comfy chaise lounges. AND THEN -- you can walk to the square and to nearby beer and wine tastings. We didn't actually get out to wineries because we had too much fun near and at the house. Finally, the owners are incredibly nice. I almost didn't want to write this review because I want to keep it for myself but great things in life are meant to be shared. We definitely want to return...
Such a lovely experience for us at this house! It was so special for my dad and stepmom who were visiting us from the Midwest to experience the wine country with us here. (We live in the Bay Area and our visiting parents wanted to experience the wine country.) They were thrilled to be in a beautiful setting in this comfortable home and then so close to wine tasting, the old mission, and all of the shops and fun in the square in Sonoma. There was a festival going on so we were even able to get a full chicken bbq lunch down there on the square and enjoy the afternoon there. We went to the Bartholomew Winery—so lovely and so close by. We drove over, but next time when it’s just us we'll ride our bikes over--we realized driving around that there are a number of great vineyards within a bike ride from the house.
We had fun swimming with our 5 year old daughter in the pool and she had a field day playing with the toys in the house. We got the best strawberries we’ve ever tasted from a stand near the place. We cooked some nice meals and ate outside in the garden.
My favorite things about the house are: the pool and outdoor shower, the big kitchen table to sit by the big windows with flooding in and reading the Sunday paper, the "toy room", the gardens, the country setting while being so close to downtown and the vineyards.
This place is a relaxed, country farm house feel where a family or a couple can get away from it all and yet feel at home.
