Overview

Rodanthe House Rental Photos and Description

PLEASE VISIT OUR OTHER TWO OCEAN FRONT PROPERTIES IN RODANTHE: VRBO # 584841 AND 403480.

We grew up in central North Carolina, but we've called Hatteras Island our second home. Mermaid's Tears (another name for seaglass which is found naturally along the North Carolina coast) is just steps away from the sandy beach. One of our favorite things is sitting on the deck watching the dolphin (yes, we see them just about every day) and, of course, the wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Using our binoculars we are even able to identify the fish caught at the Rodanthe Fishing Pier, only 100 yards away.

Mermaid's Tears encompasses a reversed house plan which is very common to many homes along the Outer Banks. This simple means that the living area, ie, kitchen, dining and living room are located on the highest level.

Our second floor level of Mermaid's Tears includes a very large living open area (great for entertaining) with flat screen TV/DVD and CD stereo system. A large floral sectional couch and two chairs face the two 8' sliders for a magnificent view of the ocean. The dining area, open to the living area and kitchen, has seating for ten. The modern kitchen has all cooking needs should one decide never to venture out to any of the great restaurants in the area. There is also counter seating for four. There is a very nice king bedroom upstairs with connecting bath and shower. This bedroom has its own slider to the outside oceanfront deck. A flat screen TV and DVD are also in this bedroom.

Three of our bedrooms are downstairs, the master has a king bed and day bed with a large bathroom with a separate shower and jacuzzi tub. The slider leads to a covered deck which is virtually on top of the ocean. This bedroom has a flat screen TV and DVD. Another bedroom downstairs, very spacious with a king bed, has a large window and a slider to a covered deck over-looking the ocean. This bed and breakfast style bedroom has a flat screen TV and DVD. The third bedroom has two pyramid bunk beds. Both have a double bed; one with a pullout trundle. This bedroom has two windows; one with a view of the ocean, the other a view of the sound in the distance. This is truly a unique bedroom as it invites an aquarium decor. This bedroom also has a flat screen TV and DVD. This bedroom and the second bedroom share a full bathroom. Also, downstairs is a nice welcoming foyer and a full washer and dryer closet. While staying in Mermaid's Tears, exploring is a must. Hatteras Island is simply the most beautiful place on earth - where the Atlantic Ocean and Pamlico Sound is separated by a thin, fragile slice of land. Hatteras Lighthouse, Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge, the Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum, small villages of Avon, Buxton, Waves, Frisco and Salvo are all within a short drive.

In Rodanthe, explore the Chicamacomico Life-Saving Station Museum, Civil War Battle of Chicmacomico Races, and try to identify each of the over 400 species of birds. Or simple lay back and enjoy reading and watching the surf.

FREE Wireless Internet access via Silicon Travel for this property (computer not provided, bring your laptop).

FULL CONCIERGE SERVICE: Grocery shopping, dinner delivery, in-home catering and chef services, party planning, activities planning, mid-stay cleaning available through our Property Management Company, Shore Details.

PROPERTY DAMAGE PROTECTION: No security deposit is collected. Over years of renting our property, we have found guests prefer to pay a Property Damage Protection fee ($59) which covers all accidental damages to the vacation rental up to $2,500.

About Frank Henson

Frank and Beverly are the proud owners of 'Mermaid's Tears' as well as two other properties closeby. We have been vacationing/living on the outer banks for years and will retire in Rodanthe someday. It is the perfect place to be. Both Frank and Beverly are NC licensed builders. Frank retired from the United States Marine Corps as a Lieutenant Colonel. We have three Brussels Griffons, Frankie, Annie Rose and Scout, and they always travel with us to the Outer Banks.

Why Frank Henson chose Rodanthe

The Outer Banks has been our favorite vacation spot for years. This is the third, and most recent, property we have bought in this area. The other is VRBO #403480 and is located a short walk down the beach) It's easy driving from our home in Greensboro, NC. It's close to great restaurants, shopping, golf, sightseeing yet very remote and very casual. Also, the Outer Banks is routinely rated in the top five US beaches by US News, National Geographic, ABC News and CBS News. 'Mermaid's Tears' is an exceptional rental property with all the amenities for a perfect family vacation.

What makes this house unique

Sitting on the front porch in the evening while enjoying a glass of wine or ice tea, feeling the ocean breeze while watching late surfers and swimmers has become our most treasured time. Early in the morning, we'll catch up on news and sports via wifi while sipping coffee and snacking on delicious pastries. Great early morning and late evening walks on the beach fulfill perfect days in Rodanthe.

A Wonderful Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Mermaids Tears April 4-11, 2015. It was one of our best vacations yet. It was me, my husband, my 2 children, our daughter in law and our three grandchildren (ages 10, 6, 3). The house was absolutely wonderful. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was plenty of space for everyone. I have always wanted to stay right on the ocean front, and Mermaids Tears was definitely the place. The house is right on the beach. I don't think you could stay in another house and be closer to the surf. The weather was great. We had two days that were cool and overcast but the other days were bright and sunny. There are wonderful rockers on the upper deck and a great swing on the lower deck that everyone enjoyed. Hands down, this is the best place you can stay. We can't wait to plan our next trip!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to submit such a positive review....and so glad you are considering returning to Mermaid's Tears next year. We try so hard to make the house a positive experience....obviously the weather, the ocean, the Outer Banks, Rodanthe does the rest...for potential guests reading this review, and what this guest did not say but did write a nice note to us was that they actually caught three nice puppy drums right in front of the house (two were 15 lbs, one was 20-25 lbs)...can you imagine! The biggest one we have caught was maybe 5 lbs! Again, thanks for the review and we look forward to your return!

WONDERFUL BEACH FRONT EXPERIENCE

  • 5 of 5

Mermaids Tears was wonderful. As most everyone has said in past reviews the sites and sounds were fantastic. Even though the owners had told us the winter of 2014 was the worst they can remember, and that they lost some of the beach in front of the house. I think the sounds of the waves crashing on the shore may have been even more enhanced because we were actually closer to the surf. What a wonderful sound to go to sleep by. The view was OUTSTANDING. The house was very well furnished for all our cooking needs. Made shakes (smoothies) most every morning. Ate out in a couple local restaurants. The only negative of our whole stay was beyond the control of our hosts. WINDY. But than what can you expect for the time of the year we were there. All in all our stay was wonderful. Would return and have already recommended Mermaids Tears to several friends. Thanks Beverly & Frank for allowing us to use your lovely home.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a nice review about Mermaid's Tears. Our hope and our goal is for all of our guests to have an enjoyable and memorable vacation. Yes, it always seems to be windy in Rodanthe....but kite boards and surfers love it that way. And, as you indicated, it makes for some really special evenings. ..the sounds of the ocean makes sleeping so peaceful. Usually, the warm weather brings back much of the beach lost during the winter...so we are looking forward to the next few months of warm weather. Thank you again for your positive thoughts regarding your recent visit, and please keep us in mind for future visits to the Outer Banks.

OCEAN, OCEAN, AND MORE

  • 5 of 5

We are a family who have grown up on, or nearby the beaches of the eastern shore of Md...and have also visited the Outer Banks on a regular basis, either in a travel trailer, or on beachfront rental property. In all honesty, we have NEVER been so "beachfront" and close to the ocean. What a treat! We witnessed spectacular sunrises, a day with 21 kite board surfers on the rough sea, fishermen, families with children and dogs, and of course, always a view from our home, with the wrap around decks. Thank you, Beverly and Frank...you made this so easy, and we will consider rental of this property again! A very lovely, and well equipped home!

Couldn't have found a better beach front rental!!

  • 5 of 5

The Mermaid's Tears Beach House was everything and more that was described in the

"Mermaid's Tears" website. We were in awe of this home that sits literally almost on the beach. The panoramic view of the ocean from the living room was really too beautiful

to believe. Everything you needed to cook with was available to you in this home.

We had an incredible view of the kite surfers most everyday and they were phenomenal to watch.

We actually saw dolphins early morning as well. The "Stack Um High" restaurant in Kitty Hawk was a great place for breakfast. Many local restaurants to try and we did.

The ferry boat ride to Ocracoke Island was definitely a highlight for the kids in our group as well as the adults. The weather was absolutely beautiful, a little on the cool side, but we still had an amazing time at Rodanthe and the Mermaid's Tears Beach House. Thank you for letting our family, including our beloved Shetland sheep dog who also enjoy your beautiful beach front home!

Just Perfect

  • 5 of 5

This house was just amazing. Could not ask for a better location. We enjoyed spending our days in the surf and having beach fires at night. There is no question that the home owners care about their property, this place was well taken care of! I am a bit delayed on writing my review but I am currently on getting my dates for 2015. All the years we have been coming to Rodanthe we have never stayed in the same house but this one is definitely a keeper. See you soon!!!!!

The Perfect OBX Vacation House!

  • 5 of 5

This house was the absolute best place we have ever stayed. Being steps from our beach chairs was worth it's wait in gold. We loved sitting on the deck and watching and listening to the surf. The kids loved visiting the fishing pier, and watching the surfers. There was a great sandbar that made swimming very pleasant. We plan to be regulars of this house, after this, there is no other place to stay.
